The Moche are an ancient culture from Peru. I was watching a show on them the other night that was so interesting! It had something to do with the Pyramid of the Moon - one of the structures that modern day archaeologists suspect there was a mass murder at because they've found skeletal remains that were obviously horribly butchered. Missing arms, legs, heads, huge gashes and broken bones - evidence of being defleshed (for display - not cannabalism necessarily). They've also found the tombs of what appear to be very important men in the Moche soceity, by the way they were buried and the things they were buried with.

They have found artwork - pots and whatnot - with pictorials of what matches the unique jewelry & metal on these men found in the tombs and it corelates to what may have happened! They think these men were the actual butchers of the people they found so horribly murdered. They even found a huge wooden club covered in (very old) blood in one of the men's tombs and believe he may have been the one that met out the blows that caused all the gaping holes in the skulls.

I really hope this is on again so everyone can see it! I checked the TLC site and don't see it on tonight, but hopefully it will repeat next week. Here's the title and description from their site:

I saw some Moche pottery on PBS a long time ago and it was erotica!!! The bowl had a handle like a basket- ok- now here's what the handle was "doing"..... one half was a mans face with his mouth open and the other side joined it in the middle and this side was Mr Happy going into the mouth!! snark, snark, naughty little moches!!!

In art school we saw a lot of naughty stuff from the ancient times. it's funny how many people are shocked by that- like porn is a modern thing?? I think not. I dont mean fertility art- It's really porn. the diff is obvious if ya study it. the stuff from Pompeii- now that is some fine fine stuff!!! Goats and all.

Ya gotta remember that these people had much less in the way of diversions, compared with modern times. I think that they used what they had to start a comedy club?? I s'pose that is as good a guess as any... but, for sure, porn as we know it is NOT an invention of the current era. When you think about it, these people really weren't that knowledgeable about reproduction as we are now, and I am sure that some of the fixtures of the human anatomy were quite humorous to them, when they weren't praying to the fertility God or Goddess in a more serious frame of mind. The Creator made it rather difficult to figure out the connection between sex and the creation of an offspring... since the two happened so far apart, timewise. LOL
