What is your opinion on these Reality Shows? I for one do not like any of them. And I especially don't like these new game shows like Weakest Link or The Chair. What bothers me about Weakest Link is all the insulting. What do we teach our children? That this is acceptable behavior? The Survivor shows, act like you all are friends and be nice but stab each other in the back so you can win? Temptation Island - Oh let's not even go there! Am I just a prude? Or does anyone else see my point?

Well, there are "reality shows" and "reality shows" in my mind. I do not like the "game type", for the reasons you have already mentioned. I think they are terrible, and I don't watch them. But, those that deal with actual police footage, criminal investigation, crime solving America's Most Wanted, forensics, medical trauma, etc., I find very interesting, and I watch those all the time. So, I guess I just don't like the ones where they hatch up something to make people fight for their survival, etc. Those are very stupid. We have enough "real" reality, without trying to create a "false" reality for entertainment.

I agree - I don't like the type you're referring to either, Pan. I don't watch them because they do not interest me - in fact they irritate me! Even though I don't have kids, I too believe it's teaching our children the wrong values. But what to do - except keep them away from those shows - if you can? =\

I don't like them either. I don't understand why people like to watch them. They are pure entertainment candy. All empty calories. They're like eating processed sugar from a bowl. Sure it gives a rush but the drawbacks aren't worth it.
Yet people watch them. And I can see them digging deeper into the barrel of bad taste and squalid entertainment. If they ratings are there.
I never watch any of them. Not even who wants to be a millionaire.

Thanks for clarifying azspirit. I agree with your observation. I like some reality shows but not the crap I was referring to. And Nakis, I have yet to watch even 5 minutes of Who Wants to be a Millionaire.

I am one of those that does watch things like Millionare and Weakest Link, although I did catch an episode of The Chair and was shocked at the lengths some people will go. The only reason i watch the aformentioned shows is for the purely "worthless Trivia" which I really dig. I like seeing how "smart" I am as opposed to someone else in the world.

But I really really like the "other" reality shows like Trauma in the ER, Most Wanted, etc..... but playing the devil's advocate here (sorry =\ ) aren't those types of shows potentially sending the message that it's okay to be a "bad guy" because here's how not to get caught? I mean the forensic shows show you what clues they look for thus leaving a loop hole for the master criminal mind to squeeze through.HMMMMM just a thought.
