Yep, I have a bit o' Irish in my bloodline, too, but haven't got it nailed down yet. It is on my mother's side, and mixed in with some Welsh, Scotish and Dutch.... kind of a Heinz 57, if you will.

We are Irish on my mom's side with a little Scotch sprinkled in =D Does anyone here know where the last name Hinton maybe comes from, or where I would look up things like that? I really would love to start checking out our ancestry when I get the time.

Cindy, offhand, I'd guess that Hinton comes from the UK somewhere. What other information do you have to go along with the last name of Hinton?
A good place to start the search is Ancestry.com[/URL]. There's a lot of info to be had there!
I did a quick check and found 16 matches for Hinton in "Irish Immigrants: New York Port Arrival Records, 1846-1851"
Also, a search returned 1,135 hits in the "England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland: Parish and Probate Records" (A collection of parish and probate records in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland from the 1500's to the 1800's.) An overwhelming majority of these hits were from England.
There's a ton of info on that site. The more info you're armed with, the easier it is to narrow down - but still no easy task! ;-)
