I noted on a thread by nakis about the disappearin people that Sheilas friend was having trouble selling her house.
We had trouble selling a haunted house in Akron, Ohio. But the trouble with it was the real estate agents wanted to buy it themelves. they were waiting for the price to drop. I had a good talk with them about it being haunted and they got it sold before the week was up. if you suspect this- have a talk with them.

Also- it may be good idea to get the house "cleared" if you can.there was one house that I looked at and from the moment I walked in i was jumping out of my skin. By the time we got to the second floor it was getting unbearable. I didnt see an attic access and found out it had been "sealed up" years ago!! Uh-oh! I said "outta here now!" the poor real estate agent!! I could barely breath on the second floor.

If no one is residing in the place there's no worry about the spirits getting PO'd and worse- and they night be gotten rid of. I'd be sure the place was clean- lot's of white walls. no darkness- nothing to make it creepy visually. make the place smell good too. she could place lavender sachets in the closets to release a calming scent- to sorta cover up the other stuff for someone who may not be as sensitive. we use lavender here for this with a nervous dog.

I guess the market has been soft this past year but I hear it is picking up.

good luck to her.

Believe it or not some states have regulations about strange occurances in houses. If you are selling a house that has strange stuff going on in it you are supposed to disclose that. It has been used as a reason to pull out of buying a house too.

I've heard about this same thing too, Nakis. I even came across a classified ad once for a Victorian house that came "complete with ghost"! For some it would probably be a selling point. When my parents sold their old home, some of the locals who came by to look were very curious about the rumors of it being haunted. I've got to admit, unless it was really bad, I would probably keep my mouth shut and take my chances. I would not be sure if it was actually the house that was haunted, or if it was some of my belongings, etc... Some have experienced hauntings in a house when later owners have reported nothing unusual. Wasn't there a well-publicized case in England a few years back in which a couple got out of the contract on this?

I think that sometimes just the change of residents is enough to 'activate' a haunting. They may never make themselves known to former residents because they 'were comfortable living with them', per se. Usually any changes in the house - even painting a room - is enough to stir 'em up!
