YIKES!!! We were watching TV (it was on Wednesday night), and the window of that room looks out into part of our back yard. We saw lights flashing in the back yard, and they just didn't look normal, so we went to the back door, and lo and behold, the back yard was full of policemen (at least 3 of them) with a big dog!!! YIKES!!! They were even looking under our spa cover! They were looking for two guys who evidently bailed out of a car on the street behind us.
We saw the original encounter between the police and these two guys about an hour before, out in front of our house on the street. There were 3 police motorcycles gathered on our side of the street, and the car had stopped on the far side of the street. The police were using a bullhorn, demanding them to turn the car off and exit the car. They weren't complying with police orders, and suddenly took off, and went squeeling around the corner (where our house is on the corner lot). A police chase ensued, and evidently these guys bailed on the street behind us and ran. The helicopter was overhead for a while, and then went away. We thought the incident was over, but that is when we found the police in our back yard doing a ground search. We don't know what these guys did, but it was kinda scary, having the police in the back yard with a dog.... and we didn't even know it! What if we had let Doc out??? That big German sheppard would have torn him to shreds if Doc had attacked him.... and Doc is so protective, he just might have done it. That was a little bit on the scary side. Not to mention that there were these two guys loose in our neighborhood, and who knows what they were up to. We were kinda taken aback by the whold thing, but we are glad to know that our police are thorough about things like this, What if Doc had been in the back yard when they came in??? They had opened our side gate. It is OK that they came in and searched, but, if scares me to think of what might have happened with Doc. SHEESH!!! What a night!

We got busy, and forgot to post this right after it happened. So, here's the scoop.

Man- yall need to move out like somewhere in the desert. I was out there- I saw lots of space where yall could park it. I used to live in a city too and that crap was all the stinking time!!!The helicopter part really freaks me out.We have apaches all the time since 9/11- even out in Confederate Middleburg.

I sure do hope you have a shot gun or a pistol!!!
We keep a loaded 45 in the car!

I think I would rather live out under stars that you can actually see, hearing the coyotes (sounds like here) It makes all the diference in the world with the stress level not to live in city noise. Get you a few acres and a big ol' affordable double wide and say sayonara to the crime! wow- you could shoot em out there haul em outta the way and let the buzzards pick em clean and never even mess with the police.(we take em to where mr.gator will snack on them)

Yeh- I can see yall out there now- goin' back ta nature wearin them big sombreros and bandoleros shooting down some homemade tequila and eatin goat and gila monster tacos! Yessiree and yeeehaw!!!!!!!

Well that sure would have given me a fright. I think if Doc was in the back yard, he would have barked so much that no one would come into your yard. Perps or cops. How did they get in? Was the gate unlocked or did they climb over your wall? Did they ever come to your door any say anything to you? I thought they had to be invited on to your property. I agree, it's good that they were doing their jobs. But if they didn't find anything, they should have at least let you know they were there. Was Doc barking at all while he was in the house?

That sounds pretty scary Az. I would have been sleeping with a baseball bat or some other weapon by my bed just in case.
But it must have also been exciting too. =D

I'm not an expert or anything but I believe they can access your property without warning while in a legitimate pursuit. I don't think they can access your house unless they saw the suspect entering it. Otherwise they need your permission.

As long as they don't find the fresh unmarked graves there should be no reason for alarm. MUllllaahahahahahaaaaa.

Yikes!! That's just scary. And yes they can come onto your property if it's a legitmate search or chase, I asked the deputy lol. =) As for your dog, I'm glad he wasn't outside when they were there. Poor guy could have gotten really hurt. Nothing like that every happens here, and I'm glad it doesn't. Sure we have the occasional police chase but they've never came stomping through my yard looking for someone. That's just not cool. I hope they caught the guys.

I don't think Doc even had a clue they were out there! I had seen the lights on the house through the window in the TV room - and it wasn't helicopter lights, so I thought hmmm! I absentmindedly  opened the back door to look. One cop pointed his flashlight at me and said "Phoenix Police, shut the door we have a dog out here!". I quickly shut the door and am glad I did because when Doc heard his voice, he was on his way out! Az held Doc and I went on out back to talk to them - that's when they explained the bad guys had bailed and they were searhing for them. I hope they caught them too - but gawd, how scary it would have been if they'd have caught them in our backyard! =O!

Yup, we have pistoleros. Mine stays loaded and stays handy - more so that night. (Sundog, it's a .38 magnum and I'm a regular Annie Oakley. During Desert Storm, they had 'Saddam' targets at the range. I've kept them for posterity because I very neatly shot his eyes out! )

Pan, I believe they unlocked the gate. Probably jumped up high enough on the fence, reached over and unlocked it.

Ugh! That is terrible! I also thought they had to at least notify you they were searching the property. It just isn't safe anywhere! We live in a small town, beside a church, but had an incident about a year ago with a drive by shooting. Thankfully no one was hurt, but it was an uneasy night. Glad to hear y'all were ok, and Doc too!

Hey, we are right across the street from a church. Just a small one, but still, a church. We just have too many creeps moving in around here, making me thankful that I have no minor children going to school, etc. I would be a nervous wreck!! Kell and her brother just THOUGHT I was strict when they were growing up!!
I wasn't unbearably strict, but I made an effort to know where they were, and who they were with, etc. When Kell's dates came to pick her up, those I didn't know had to sign my book, with name, address and phone number. And, I told them that, if for any reason, Kell didn't come home, their home would be where I would start looking. I think this one is a good idea, especially in today's times.

But, this was still the first time I have ever had police in the back yard with a K-9! I am still flabbergasted!
A "little house on the prairie" sounds better all the time!

Y'all can come and stay with me, it's not little house on the praire but more like little house in the hills lol. We can't even see our neighbors house through the trees in the summer, now during the winter you can sort of lol. Nothing ever happens here, last time the cops were even downt this road was like I don't know 15 yrs ago. The neighbors down the road had a pot plantation apparently and they got busted.
