I don't know whats going on here. The music boxes have all been quiet since the first time and I haven't been hearing any more knockings, but in the last three days I have burned out two light bulbs. This is always happening to me, 95% of the time its me that flips the switch when they burn out. Then Sunday morning the light on the ceiling fan turned off then turned back on again, and this morning it happened again but very quickly(more a wink). This stuff never happens to my husband, darn it. We check the bulb, its not loose and I don't think its the wiring because there's not so much as a flicker when the maintenance men are on the roof. They are up there reqularly and it sounds like a herd of elephants, shakes plaster down and everything.
Hopefully this stuff will happen to my husband one of these days and then we'll know that I'm not loosing my mind.

Don't worry, you're not crazy. If you are, then you're in good company.

We seem to go through phases where lightbulbs will burn out right & left - sometimes just as you're replacing one that has just burnt out! We were beginning to wonder if the bulb companies were going cheapo (we've used different brands), or if maybe the wiring was bad, but there isn't really any other evidence of bad wiring - plus it isn't consistent. ?_? We've also had some strange instances where the computer, while in it's 'sleep' mode (not shutdown), will start up without anyone touching it!

You live in an apartment, yes? Just to be on the safe side, you might ask them to check the wiring out to make sure nothing is wrong. You certainly don't want a fire! =O Do you know any history on your place or the land it sits on?

I got your froggy from your profile. He was so cute, I though he should be out where he can be seen better! ;-)

I've had similar problems with my bulbs going out all the time. We replaced one just a few days ago in the computer/sun room. When James reached up and took it out, it was very neatly broken into two pieces. No jagged edges, just a very clean break. We are both puzzled over this one.
Another incident was a few weeks ago. James' has a close friend whose mother passed away of cancer. On the day of her funeral, we were just laying in bed talking that morning, when I heard some loud pops in the kitchen. Thinking I had a critter (it is almost time for my battle of the geckos) I ran to look. Two knobs on my stove had literally desintegrated and flew across the room several feet. They had looked fine the night before.
We've also had the funny thing with the computer. Even James has caught it a few times. I've heard that ghosts had a thing about electrical appliances. I wonder if it has something to do with gaining energy? You always hear about video cameras failing at haunted sites. Maybe they just drain the energy out of anything electrical? =O!

Renee, just to be on the safe side, you might want to have a maintenance person check the wiring in your ceiling fan. Just because the maintenance people on the roof don't cause it to blink, you might want them to check it anyway. Electrical circuits can become a bit loose in something with it's own motor, like a ceiling fan. It isn't always a vibration thing, but can be the expansion and contraction of things as they warm up and cool down, causing a loose connection inside the fixture itself. There are ways that an electrician can check it, just to make certain it is working properly, and all wiring connections are tight. Any sort of loose connection can be a fire hazard, and it is just better to be safe. I would be careful not to leave the fan or light fixture on when you go to bed, until they check it. I am not trying to scare you, but just want you to be safe!

I was an engineer for 30 yrs, and I worked primarily with electrical power. So, I am kind of a safety nut... born out of a healthy respect for what electricity can do. ;-) Stay safe!!!

Blessings,

I have a friend who can't touch lightbulbs or they burn out. He said he inherited it from his maternal grandmother. She also attracted lightening balls. He said he has never had this experience. He can't wear watches either. He demagnitizes them. My sister has that problem, but she doesn't have the lightbulb thing.

But I digress. . .

My point is are you sure that it isn't you or your husband?

I have read about folks who can do that to street lights too by just walking by them! It has a name for it but, blimey, my old head cant remember it right now. I'd like to be able to do that one- but the only thing I can ruin by just looking at it is a copier. how mundane indeed!

AZ, thanks for your suggestion. I'm pretty much of a safety girl too. You have to be when you live in a place that has winter, summer, and fire season. Fireworks are even illegal here. I had a maintenance guy check out the fan today. He didn't have any special equipment but he did put it through a rather rigorous test and was unable to get it to malfuction in any way. I feel pretty safe about it and it's never left on at night or when we're not home(so. ca. electricity shortage). I also made sure they installed a new smoke alarm. The halogen (sp?) lamp turned itself on for me this morning. Those act funny sometimes any way so I'm not sure that has anything to do with ghosties. =P
Thanks for your input everybody. I'll let you know if any other odd things happen.
