Hi Mama Bear,
Remember I was telling you that the image of yourself that you saw could be a doppelganger? I asked around on GhostStudy and Shadowlands and here are a few of the comments. (Keep in mind, the 'death/omen' part is largely a myth!)

I guess I'm an old fashion geek, I Just looked it up in the dictionary, and it say the word "doppelganger" is dervived from the German doppel= double and ganger= goer. The definition is 1) A ghostly counterpart of a living person. 2)a. Double b. Alter Ego c. A person who has the same name as another.

The Doppleganger is the German word for double. I have a pal who has claimed other's have seen him out taking pictures and when they approach him to talk he never speaks. To me that is creepy. He can't figure it out. In England it is called a "Fetch" and is usually like a wraith, [how you'll look at your death] Queen Elizabeth I saw hers shortly B4 her passing. Also, Percy Shelley saw his fetch drowned and he drowned shortly afterwards. It is also called a waft[?] or wye in England. Vardogor in Norway. But a lot of people have seen their Dopplegangers and lived. Johann Van Goethe did. He saw himself 10 years into the future, (he passed himself on a road) and even noted what type of clothes he was wearing. It is kinda creepy to me. Hope this helps you.

Several years ago many of my family had gathered at a Lodge in the Poconoes out east, for Christmas. They all swore I was there also.
I was not there, I didn't get the vacation time approved. I was still back in Iowa, working.
But they all swear that I was the one who stayed back at the Lodge, and put out the Christmas Gifts while they attended Midnight Mass.
They would get angry at me for denying that I was there. My brothers and their families all swore I was there. They all have fond memories of me being there. Yet when I ask them to produce a single picture taken there with me in it, they can not find a single picture. And I'm not camera shy.
I've heard that a doppleganger will appear for someone, when there is a strong connection of Love present in one location, while you are present in another location.
I wanted to be there, they wanted me to be there. I couldn't be there, so my "Other Self" went in my place!

Yeah I have heard the same saying myself....but I have another term for it..your "evil twin".. no just kidding! just kidding! I actually have seen a person who looks exactly like me...hair, eyes, even my smile... now if that doesn't freak someone out I don't know what will!

To me, a doppelganger is our alternate astral twin but then i kind of wonder what happens to the doppelganger when we astral project..do we merge? do we still have our own consciousness? ...are we one consciousness but operating on different dimensions/realities? Are doppelgangers the spiritual form of our physical selves?
Apparently dogs and cats can see doppelgangers..
I heard too that if we ever do meet up with our doppelganger..it's an omen of death....
When I close my eyes sometimes and concentrate I see someone that looks exactly like me but this person is telepathic and has an eerie quality
Some people refer to a living person who physically resembles another human being as a doppelganger also...but i'm not referring to this kind as they tend to have their own identities and own lives...
There's not much on the net about this unfortunately, maybe because it is so hard even to theorize on the subject of doppelgangers...

Did your friend see her doppelganger in solid form or astral-like? It's very interesting..
When I saw my doppelganger in my minds eye...I was concentrating on identifying whatever source was influencing me...because there was a time at work..I had made a really unfeeling out-of-character decision...(I'm a soft-touch most of the time )...what i didn't expect to see was an image of myself...it was so eerie...but there were aspects of the doppelganger that was coming through to me...I knew this image i was seeing wasn't me...freaky...yet i knew too that it was me...it was like looking at the part of you that you keep hidden from the world...the you that goes against everything you do naturally...hehe..hard to explain...
Apart from seeing her in my minds eye...I dont think she has ever appeared before me ...I'd certainly freak out...I'd have palpitations wondering what this could possibly mean for me

Hiya Kell, I actually saw my doppelganger at my local high school! now how eerie is that????? One of my best friends swears up and down that I took a home ec class and I keep telling her "no I didn't! I didn't even set foot in there! ) I have seen pictures of my "twin" and the only time I have actually seen her is through a wooden door with a glass window... She didn't look at me but I saw her..

This doppleganger stuff is so interesting. There is just too much to think about and theorize on the subject! I have read about more people seeing dopplegangers of friends or family than I have about people seeing their own "twin" And usually it is a message about somthing, like the person is in trouble, or is thinking of the other person. I am not sure if this is truely doppleganger occurance but I think it counts.

Ya know, I get told ALL the time that I must have a double because I look just like this girl that did this, or did that!! I've even had people stop me and ask me this, or at times have had people stare at me at an event when eventually they come up to me and say, "You look just like so and so, it's weird."

Whoa that made my blood pressure go up. Eerie and cool at the same time. Very interesting - thanks for posting all that. I was driving somewhere one day and was stopped at a light. An elderly gentlemen was next to me and was yelling something to me so I opened my passenger window to hear what he was saying. He said, "Hey Lois how ya doing? I haven't seen you in years." I told him I was not Lois and didn't know anybody by that name. He freaked and said it was really uncanny how much I looked like Lois. Guess I have a double out there named Lois. =)

Like I've said before, I've never seen the face of "my spirit". I saw her 2 ways, a few times like she was in the flesh and a few other times as though she was transparent... She's never attempted to make contact with me. She just goes around the house, doing things that I do as a mom... Maybe it's a good thing too! Maybe she's keeping all the other ghosties in line like a Mama_Bear, helping me protect my daughters! At least, let's hope that's her purpose...
I signed up at Ghoststudy but only posted an intro, have been pretty busy over the last week with the pups and stuff but hopefully, I'll post there soon and get different perspectives there as well about things going on with Michael...

Has anyone mentioned a residual haunting? This could involve a live person. You say it seems to be going about the routine mommy jobs - that's what a residual haunting does, it repeats the same thing over and over and a lot of routine mommy jobs are just that, repeats. Think back to when you wore that dress and when you had your hair long. Did anything happen that may have been particulary exciting or emotional? Maybe you found out you were pregnant, or someone close passed, or maybe it was when you were having problems with your pregnancy. You seem to be very sensative with the ability to see full bodied spirits - that could include residual haunts as well.
I've read alot of ghost stories that talk about spirits taking on the likeness of living people. Not in the face but just the general outward appearance. Clothes, size, hair, etc..
Please keep in mind Mamabear that this spirit may not even be the spirit of your husbands father. It may just want you to think that. I've ran into a spirit that wanted me to think it was the spirit of my dead cousin. You can't be too careful.

Connie, I'd never heard of residual hauntings... then again, this is about the first time I get fed up enough of my "little friends" to start informing myself.
What I can say about that particular time I wore that dress, that's when life was actually being very good!
You see, hubby and I were together a very short time and we got into a major car wreck, right after got pregnant for our first... things were wonderful when Tina was a baby (even if we were as poor as poor could be)... We ended up leaving an apartment because I let something scare me out of it... I just knew that someone had been killed in the back porch of that place and when I asked the landlord about it, he was totally defensive and turned beet red as he tried to lie to me... Things started to turn for us when we were expecting our 2nd child. Life gave us one twist after another... 3 more accidents, hubby in hospital thanks to a drunk driver, etc.
Could the residual haunting be hanging around even if this is a new house we're living in (well it's new to us...we've rented here for 1 yr now)? And if it is a residual haunting, could it be around to remind me of happy times?
It seems to soothe me to think that's what it could be but as like Nakis said, spirits can fake being someone else.... =O

Mama Bear... have you ever thought about your walks to the cemetery that you spoke of a few days ago as being a possible source for a haunting. It can be rather easy to pick up a 'hitchhiker', or a spirit that actually follows you home. It is entirely possible that your just seemed 'attractive' to a spirit that was previously hanging out at the cemetery. Most seasoned ghost hunters who go to cemeteries, or other places known to be haunted, they will actually tell the spirits aloud as they are leaving that they are NOT welcome to follow anyone home. Just a thought.....

The one that I do believe is real is Michael, Tim's father, BUT, not every single time I've seen or heard stuff... Basically, the way I see it with him is #1 he came into the picture on the morning that Tim and I had our car accident, I saw him behind me while I got ready for work but I didn't know him at all... We only found his grave 1 yr later and the activity around Tim was off and on ... it did become more when the oldest was born and even more after our youngest was born...
I know what you mean though about someone feeling welcome and I think that might be the cause of spirits impersonating loved ones (or disliked ones! :lol: )...
A neighbor of mine from a few yrs back was found dead in her apartment in the fall last year. When my friend called me to let me know Doris had passed, I already thought something was going on with her... I had seen her about 6 nights before, coming from behind my bedroom door, looking just plain horror movie like... Turns out, they only found her 6 days later, and the coroner said she had been dead for about that long (6 days)...
I told my husband about this, told him what she was wearing when I saw her and he flipped out, I described her wanna be sexy pj's to a tea!!! The woman drank a lot and my husband worked for a delivery company that deliverd booze amongst other things and Doris, I guess I can't blame her, had a big crush on my hubby!!! :lol:
