I've got to preface this by saying I do not like war movies, my tastes usually run toward romantic comedy. I can read books with graphic, grizzly detail, just don't show me blood on screen. I'm also not a big Nicholas Cage fan, I've liked a few of his movies, but very few.
However, this was the exception. Not often can I say that I was truly touched by a movie, but I was this one. The story, a true one, makes you very much aware of the costs and sacrifices these people made so that we may live and enjoy the freedoms we have today. I left the theater proud of my American heritage, as well as my Native American heritage. The movie was a little too graphic for me, although I realize it was done to show the horrors of war, and the trauma these brave men suffered. This one is worth the price of admission, and I'm not sorry I didn't wait to just rent it. If Cage doesn't at least get an Oscar nomination, it is because he ticked off some big wig, not because of a lack of performance. Bring tissues when you see this, lots and lots of tissues. ='(

Is the movie about the Native American Code Talkers in WWII? They made a huge contribution to the war effort!

I would like to see this one! Thanks, Carrie. =)

Kell, it is about the Code Talkers (Navajo), of WWII. The two actors that portray "Ben" and "Whitehorse" were outstanding, you can't help but fall in love with both of them! Christian Slater is in it also, and I loved his character; cried buckets when he got killed off. People in the theater must have thought I was a nut.

I, for one, am d@m proud of what that generation sacrificed for not just America, but for the world. They are all heroes in my eyes. (all of our war veterans for that matter).
Thanks Carrie. I will definitely see this movie now.

I have always been very proud of our Navajo Code Talkers. This was one code that the Japanese never could break... because Navajo was an unwritten language. Strides have been made since then to get it into the books... and I even have an English-Navajo dictionary!
I will definitely want to see this one!!

I too want to see this movie, but will have to wait till video. It has come and gone in the movies around my area. : ( Which usually happens since the hubby and I rarely can get to a movie. We need to go back to our Saturday afternoon date again! Lunch and a movie for 20 bucks!

Ya know, my husband and I need to do that same thing. We used to go to the movies all the time, but we've just been so busy lately -- and it is a cheap date!
You will be awed by this movie when you see it, at least I was. Just curl up on your sofa with a big box of Kleenex and plenty of popcorn! ;-)
