Last night while I was in the kitchen, my father was back by the back door at the water cooler, filling up Doc's water bowl when he heard a huge slam against the back door!

Doc was inside, as was az - both in the other room. He quickly asked me if I heard it and I said no, that I hadn't. I was fooling with a skillet on the stove and it was making a tiny bit of clinking noise, so I told him maybe that's what he heard? He said no, it sounded as if someone had thrown a basketball, full-force, against our back door and couldn't belive that none of us heard this - not even the dog, apparently. He had turned right after the noise and looked out because he thought someone was out there that did this, but there was no one there. Poor guy, thought he was hearing things.

As far as I know, sometimes ghostly sounds are only audible to one person; it's not always to everyone present. Is this right?

I only experienced something like that once, we had some family members visiting and I was upstairs taking a bath. I didn't hear anything, but everyone came rushing upstairs, sure that I had fallen, or some furniture had toppled. Nothing was amiss, and I had not heard a thing. Also, this thing that several of us have reported about hearing voices just as we drift off to sleep has worked a little along those lines. Several times, I've been in bed, drifting off, distinctly heard someone say something, and James had not heard a thing. Yep, I think spirits have a way of letting us see and hear things without others noticing.

I've read alot of true ghost stories where only certain people saw or heard the manifestation of a ghost while others in the same room experienced nothing. It's a strange thing but, from all the stories I've read about it, it's not uncommon. What do you think your ghostie was trying to say? Maybe it was thirsty.

I'd kinda have to say yes. I'm not sure but a similar thing happened to me.

At my last place, my bedroom is on the third floor in a converted attic, one morning (7-8ish)I woke up because I sensed something coming towards my apartment. It's weird because I woke up feeling something coming through the air in a bee line towards my bedroom. Just as I sensed it reach the house, there was a large boom as if someone through a 50lb sack of potatoes against the outside wall. It shook the building. But no one else there heard a thing.
It was really weird. One of the many unexplainable things that happened there.

Carrie, that must have panicked them! I'm glad you were ok though! Nakis, that is really strange! It sounds very similar to what happened here..

I was talking more to dad about this and he says he remembers that he even opened the back door - he was headed outside when he noticed Doc needed water, so he left the door barely open when he started filling it. He thinks that it shut the door too!

Renee, as for messages, I asked him what he thought might be the message (he's ok and actually very in tune with this stuff - more than he takes credit for, really). He said he didn't know. I asked him exactly what he was doing at the time. Doc's water bowl has a mini water jug on it, so he was busy filling it. While it's filling with water, it can become quite heavy and a little akward. I'm wondering if they just weren't trying to spook him to make him drop it or spill water. All in fun. =D

It sounds to me like someone was indeed trying to play a little joke on your Dad. I know from experience that some spirits seem to get a kick out of scaring us. Nothing to worry about though.

Hi Snoopy! Welcome to SpiritKeep! =)

No, we're not worried about about the ghosts here. Actually we're quite used to them, but this particular type of event hasn't happened before.

Again, welcome!

=O! That would get my attention.
Could the air conditioning coming on cause the door to shut with a slam? I know that sometimes it will at my house. But you all would have heard it including Doc. That's a strange one.

Well, I just had something happen that I can't figure out! I was doing some work in the back of the house when I heard a very loud noise from the utility room. I went to look, afraid something really large and heavy had fallen, but nothing was out of place. The way it sounded, you would have thought part of the house had fallen in! I've checked outside and can't find anything. I'm flabbergasted! I thought of this post and decided to put it up. Everything has been so quiet lately. Weird!

Isn't that so strange, Carrie? I wonder what it was. :nerd: At least nothing is broken! =P

A few days afterward, I was standing by the back door/water cooler during the middle of the night and heard a brief windy-whistling sound, but there was no wind outside and I couldn't identify anything that could have made such a noise. ?_?

Kim - I know what you mean about the A/C causing doors to close. I think he said it was open a few inches, so not sure if it would've done that or not. But as you said, no one else heard it... weird stuff!
