This happened a few weeks ago, but I was reminded of it today. A while back, we had some minor roof damage from a storm, and some of the ceiling tile in the guest bedroom needed to be replaced. I have a very old (around 1880's) iron bed in that room that belonged to my Dad's paternal grandparents. Generations of his family were born and died on that bed, and I've always found it comforting, but with a certain, "energy." There is even got a picture of Dad's grandmother, shortly after she passed away, lying in the bed. (Yep, I know it is creepy, just some sort of odd tradition on that side of the family -- remember the photos in the movie "The Others?" I guess this was just done at one time. I've got one very dear, but ghoulish little aunt who insists on photographing the corpse at family funerals. We're proud of our crazy relatives in the South, we parade them out in the parlour to entertain company!)
Anyway, I got sidetracked, back to the story: James and I had to move that bed in order to make the repairs on the ceiling. James is 6'4 and 300 pounds, he is not petite. I myself, am strong as a mule, but we could barely lift that bed to scoot it over. We were literally straining our guts out, and both ended up with some back trouble the next day. As we were struggling, James made the comment, only half-joking, that it felt like someone was laying on the bed!
We made the necessary repairs, repainted, and moaned and groaned about having to move that bed again -- this was about a week later. One night, we decided to get it over with, so we latched on to each end, and much to our surprise, did not have any trouble moving it. It was considerable lighter.
This particular room occasionally has a lot of energy in it. Caleb has talked quite a bit about an "old lady", and I've caught him talking to someone in there, although he is usually a little evasive about it. I have stood in one corner of the room, and experienced a dizzying, almost whirling energy in one spot, and had a friend stand there who reported the same thing. My sister a few months back, saw the apparition of a woman, not in that room, but in my living room, in a white nightgown. I'm going to dig out a photo of that grandmother, and see if it matches who she saw. She was supposed to be quite sweet and gentle in life, and whatever this spirit is, is not frightening and welcome to stick around as long as it behaves. I just thought that was an interesting story to share! ;-)

Carrie, it's a great thing that it's a good spirit. I've no thought why the bed would have been so heavy unless someone ;-) is trying to make her/his presence known huh?
We have a similar  family (about picture)... I have pictures of my grand-father, whom I never met in life, etc. The reason my family believes in this is because it's the person at his/her most peaceful moment. I know, still  to me!
Same thing with the bed, my paternal great-grandparents bed is at my grand-parents' home and guess what, my grandmother made sure to let me know that was the bed they both died in! =O! =O! Thanks Grams! She's told me the bed's mine to keep once they go... not sure how nice that is of her!

Have you ever had anything "bad" happen in regards to the bed? The dizzying feeling, how was that?

Carrie, that is a great story! My gosh, maybe someone was laying on the bed! Would you mind if we include this in the ghost stories/experiences section in the ghosts area on the site? I think a lot of y'alls stories would be great to include, if it's ok!

It will be interesting to see if the pic matches who your sis saw in the living room. =O!

Glad you liked the story guys. Kell, you are certainly welcome to put it on the website, typos and all! Nancy, about the odd dizzy sensation...Activity comes and goes at my house, but during one particularly active day, I went in the room to do something, can't remember what. I stood on the far right side of the room, next to the headboard and had a sensation similar to vertigo. I stepped back a little, and it completely stopped. So, I stood there a while doing a little dance of going back and forth, hopping in and out of whatever this energy was. (I'm sure someone was getting a good laugh out of the spectacle). James got in from work, and I made him go in there and try it out, but he didn't notice anything. (James is about as psychic as a doorknob). A friend, who is more in tune with stuff like this came over a while later, and I made her stand there, without telling her why. She described the same, dizzy, whirling sensation I had, and said, "Oh, yeah, something is here." She walked through the rest of the house, but agreed that the energy seemed to be strongest in that spot. I couldn't help but think, this is what it feels like to be in a vortex. It has happened a few times since, but less in recent months. When we first moved in, I found myself avoiding that room for no reason in particular, just a little bit of an uncomfortable feeling. I did get one orb picture in there, and need to take some more. I'm not sure if our ghost is linked to the bed, or the house, or to something else entirely. :tease:

Carrie, that must've been the strangest thing to feel like that in one specific area! =O
And I love the comment

I think woman are just more open and excepting of psychic energy theen men any way. Granted, there are some men that are wide open, but on the most part I think it's more women then men.

I know what you mean, Carrie, about that whirling dizzy sensation. Years ago(15 years) I felt just like that the moment I stepped into the church in the rocks of Sedona. Sedona is famous for it's vortex's! During that time in my life I had no yet experienced anything "other wordly" and neither accepted nor denied it. On that particulr day I had done some "substances" ;-) and was feeling fine. My friend and I roamed around the outside of the church just fooling around, having a grand time looking at the rocks, the church, the scenary around us. We decided to step inside the church and in that very instance I was not "under the influence" anymore, quite alert and sober. I had the overwhelming feeling of wanting to cry and I can't tell you if it was a good cry or a sad cry but I just wanted to cry. And I felt like I was falling....dizzy, nearly breathless. I knew at that momet that I had stepped into a very Holy place and from that moment on I began to be more open to "other wordly" things, almost as if that experience was a "rebirthing" if you will into the pyschic world.

My friend was snapping pictures of me in this church and when we had the pics developed there all sorts of little "white dots" around me.... he and I then figured it was dust or flies buzzing by. We had no idea, apparently, what they really were or could have been. Unfortunately he moved to Cincinati and in the mid 90's died from AIDS and his partner ended up throwing the pictures away! I do recall one picture where my hair which hung down to the small of my back at the time, was blowing up around me as if someone was using a blow dryer or something. He and I both thought it was just a sudden draft...but maybe........???? I wish I had those pictures today! ='(

Wow, Miss Grrl, that is something! I don't know much about Sedona, I'm going to have to look up some history about it. I've been to the missions in San Antonio and had a similar feeling -- the Alamo makes me weepy, and did since I was a little kid. There is a small room, off to one side, that I swear something would materialize if I could concentrate long enough. So sad about your friend and those pictures! I bet it was amazing when whatever it was played in your hair! =O!

Miss Grrl, that's an interesting experience! Isn't the Chapel of the Holy Cross awesome!? I was up there with a friend of mine back in '95 and I remember when I stepped inside, I had a very similar feeling - "I knew at that momet that I had stepped into a very Holy place." I tried taking pics, but my trusty 35mm Nikon locked up! It wouldn't take one picture up there, but worked just fine later. I was so upset. Now, after hearing your experience, I have to wonder if there wasn't 'something' that caused it not to work up there. :nerd:

Carrie, this is the Chapel of the Holy Cross in Sedona. If you look at it's location on this map[/URL], you'll see how close it is to the vortex (1 of 4). I wasn't even aware of this, as I never researched it. Maybe this is why some weird things happen at the church! I must go up there again. =)

We love Sedona and plan on putting up a lot of info on it on the site... oh so much to do!
