Has anyone ever heard of "in between places" ?
I had this question posed to me on another forum. We were discussing cross roads, gates, maybe a possible link for "inbetween places". I have searched for the answer. I came up with nothing. So if you have any ideas or knowledge, would please enlighten me? Blessings, Lady Mira.Suzy's Ghost & Psychic Pages..[/URL]

Though I"ve not heard of that term before I would guess that it means just that....the "place" where one goes during the time they are between trying to decide to remain earth bound or continue on. I've heard of something similar: Purgatory but that seems so negative. I think the in between places are more positive, warm and inviting. Sort of like hanging out in a library or something in your fav. bath robe and bunny slippers...lots of people some you may or may not know. I think that when we are successful at capturing a ghost on film, that that entity is in the between place....... Well, that's my theroy on it anyway.

Could the "inbetween places" also be referred to as "limbo"? That's what it reminds me of. Still not a very definite answer though!

In between here and the other side - that's what I'm getting at. ;-)

"In between places" are also known as liminal areas which are places that are like doorways/portals to another world/dimension.

'Liminal' is latin for 'threshold' or 'boundary'.

Doorway thresholds, crossroads, graveyards, cave openings, under the stairwell and moor lands are some examples of liminal places where you would most likely encounter beings from another dimension. Ghosts are believed to dwell in liminal places.

There are also liminal objects for example, if a person died in his bed...his bed then may take on a liminal quality becoming the link between the living and the dead, and perhaps the source of future paranormal phenomena.

It's all very interesting...you might want to research 'liminal places' to find more information on the subject. =)

Sym,
How interesting!! That makes alot of sense to me. I have never heard these called 'liminal' areas before, but I can see now that they would fit in perfectly with what we know about the paranormal. I think we must have one of these 'liminal' areas in our house, because our hallway becomes a regular ghost super highway! =)

Quite facinating indeed! Isn't it interesting that closets are often a site for vortex's? And most children (heck some adults - me) are afraid of leaving the closet door open at night. Did you ever see Poltergiest? See what I mean. :lol

Az and Pan,

Oh Yes!! Hallways and closets are good examples of liminal areas.

It reminds me of a time when I was a child...I lived in a home that was haunted by a family of ghosts (I presume they were a family LOL 2 adults, 4 kids). I used to hide under my blanket and sneak a peek at the adult ghosts walking up and down the hallway at night...and my sister and I used to dread the closet door...because four little ghostly children would come out of the closet each night and jump on our beds..wanting to play with us..eeksville...no wonder i was a bed wetter!

I have a question, what happens if ou eliminate closets?

I've been thinking of doing some remodeling. Right now, I have to walk through my youngest son's bedroom to get to mine. If you walk down the hall, the hall ends with the hall closet in front of you, my oldest son's room door to the left, and my youngest son's room door to the right. I was thinking of extending that hall straight into my bedroom but to do that I would have to eliminate the hall closet and the closet's in both of my son's rooms (they can be relocated) but it would give my youngest son the privacy those teens desperately seem to need.

By relocating those closets would the portal remain in that spot and just transfer to the new hallway or would the portal relocate to the new closets? By the way, those closet's don't seem to be particularly eerie now so maybe it's a moot question.

(Maybe I should have put this under a separate post - do we have an "if a tree falls in the forest and no one this there to hear it" catagory?) =D

Connie, I don't know if this will help or not, but here goes! I lived in a 100 year old Victorian home at one time. It had been remodeled several times over the years. Keep in mind, for the most part, homes of that era did not have closets. My bedroom and the guest bedroom were next to each other. In the hallway connecting them we had a huge linen closet that I believe was original to the house. The closet in the guest bedroom backed up to one of the closets in my bedroom. I believe that at one time, rather than closets, these rooms were connected by a small hallway. The activity experienced in that room would definitely support the portal theory. Most family members refused to spend more than one night up there, and I was never quite comfortable in that room. Most of the activity did center in the direction of the closet.
It would be my theory that the portal would move to wherever the closet, hallway, or door was placed. However, if one had been there some time, as in the case of an older home,it might remain open through some sort of residual energy? I wonder about smudging the area after remodeling?

This is interesting, in that we seem to have a portal in our present home, and the ghost activity is often in our hallway. At the end of the hall by the bedrooms, there are two closets, one behind the other, butted up against the wall of the end of the hallway. At the other end of the hallway is the living room.
The hallway is kind of like a 'superhighway' for spirits... we see movement in and near the hallway... and they always seem to be moving 'with a purpose'.... rather rapidly and without hesitation. We have seen a dark 'shadow ghost' entity several times, usually in our periferal vision, and also we see white-looking
entities as well.
When Kell was a kid, she witnessed a 'ghost of Christmas past' type entity, that seemed to be in chains, and she heard the chains dragging on the floor, beginning at the end of the hall where the closets are, going past the door to her room, and going on into the living room. It was on a Christmas Eve, and it was kinda scary, to say the least. She will have to tell more about the details on this one. We do believe that this one came from the 'portal' in the closets.

Wow, ty for all the great info! I thought of portals and liminal areas myself. So maybe I can respond to that other post with a degree of intelligence! =) I thank you all for the more than interesting responses! Lady Mira.
