I want to thank Az for her e-mail a few days ago checking on my well-being! It was nice to know that she and Kell had noticed that I hadn’t been posting on the board lately and I just wanted to let you know that all is well. Life has just been interfering with my pleasures lately – Mom came for a visit, I visited her, and then the boss went on vacation so I’ve been swamped keeping the office going.

Since Dad passed away, Mom’s been trying to simplify her life and arrange things so that not everything reminds her that he’s gone. One major thing that has been bothering her is driving “Dad’s” Truck. When they moved to southern Ohio, he wasn’t sure his old van would hold out much longer so he traded mom’s car (he got a better trade in) on a new small Truck (it was a compromise because she didn’t want to drive a full size truck). When Dad got sicker and Mom started to do all of the driving, the Van was just setting there so when my brother’s car bit the dust, they gave the Van to him. She said sometimes she would put off running her errands - it always made her sad because Dad should be the one climbing into the drivers seat and now he never will be there. She still had six years left on the truck payments anyway so I took her down to our neighborhood dealership and talked with a salesman. She found a Chrysler Sebring that she really loved and it ended up, with trading in the truck, she still has six years of payments but now she’s driving a brand new car (with no memories) that she picked, with credit in her own name (her first major purchase) and it is only going to cost her an additional $20.00 a month. She’s tickled pink.

During her visit we had confirmation that Dad is around. Mom likes to watch Indians baseball (not one of my favorite things) and she watches in the living room (where I usually watch TV – hubby usually watches TV in the kitchen because we don’t like the same shows). One night she was watching baseball so I joined hubby in the kitchen and he made a sarcastic remark asking how the baseball game was going (indicating that she was hogging the TV) and the little toy race car (Mark Martin’s #6 car) that sits on the kitchen TV (the car is only about an inch long) zoomed off the TV and hit my hubby(he was sitting at least five feet away). Since we hadn’t done anything to make the car move (no table shaking or anything), I immediately said “Dad knock it off, you don’t like baseball either”. Hubby gave me the usual rolling eyes look but had to admit that I was probably right.

Also since her visit, my CD player has been turning on by itself. The first night it did it, I had left the stereo on and it was in CD mode but you’d have to press “play” on the remote or the stereo itself to get it to start playing and nobody was near either (it played my relaxing music which is the CD in the first position). The second time it turned on, I know the stereo was completely turned off and it did not start with the CD in the first slot, it started playing the CD that was in the third slot. I’ve since put the remote in a metal box that has a lid just in case there are any crossed wires – I’ll let you know if it happens again.

Connie! It's so good to hear from you! I'm glad everything is ok... we were just a little worried and wanted to check up on you. Counting our chicks, you could say. ;-)

That's great that Mom got a new car! How exciting. I know she'll be much more comfortable with it since the truck was conjuring too many memories. I'm proud of her for making her first big purchase! [Banana]

That's pretty funny about the little car hitting hubby! What does he think about it? I think it was your dad giving him a lick for what he said.

Interesting about the CD player.... do keep us posted. I don't guess it has ever turned on by itself before? It would be interesting to load a CD by an artist that you know your father liked, in amongst ones that you like, to see if the one he likes comes on next time. =D

Hugs,
Kell

Connie, I'm glad you are doing ok! I did the same thing with my mother -- she bought a new van recently because of all the memories attached to the other one. That was pretty funny about your husband and the little car! He better watch what he says!

So glad you're okay. You had us worried.

What an awesome pat on the back for mom!? And sucha deal she got, eh? As for the toy car, that'll teach hubby to be snide about dad's bride. Definately let us know what happens with the remote.... did the 3rd position CD have any particular meaning to you or your mom or dad? Hmmmmm

Connie, glad to hear from you. I was wondering where you'd gone. Nosy bugger aren't I. =D Did you ever have a talk with your dad about the cats? Congratulations to your mom for her new car.

Now that you mention it, that third CD is one that Dad would have liked, Kenny Rogers.

When that little car hit hubby, I could see in his face that he thought it was Dad too! Although he wont' admit it to me, I've overheard him repeating the story in a joking way but at the same time in a way that leaves no question that he knew he was getting playfully reminded to watch his mouth. He's been know to speak before thinking.

I did have a talk with Dad as I was cleaning out my china cabinet and arranging everything to display his ashes on "center stage" so to speak. There doesn't appear to be anythings bothering the cats now except themselves. The older cat, Minnie, seemed to enjoy her roll as "queen" cat until I caught her hissing at Trouble for no reason - I picked up Minnie to nip it in the bud and she hissed at me so I gave her a swift pat on the butt. She looked at me with wide eyes as if you say "I can't believe you just did that" but I haven't had any problem getting her to listen to me since. The vet says, I established that I'm "queen cat". Trouble is still a bit skittish but she's coming out of her shell and getting to be more her playful self. I'm going to continue keeping their food and water dishes separated, it avoids possible clashes.

Thanks for your reply posts and Meow to you all!
