Has anyone ever tried automatic writing? And if so, what was the outcome? What are your thoughts on this subject?

I have never tried it. I have a bad feeling about allowing something to take control of my body. I just don't think it's a good idea. But it does intrigue me. However, can you believe what is being written? Just like a ouija board, you never know if the spirit is lying to you.

I've tried it a few times with pretty much no results. I don't think I was letting anyone through. Too guarded.
But back in college, I was in a really boring class(I had to take it but I already knew the material). One day in a haze of boredom, I was just drawing in my notebook. I started drawing symbols. I drew four large, thick lined figures. If my memory serves me they looked either like magic symbols, sanskrit, or possibly Tibeten writing. I ended up throughing out the notebook before I remembered they were still in there. I am still curious as too what those symbols meant that I drew.
It didn't feel as though someone had control of my hand. It was like there was something I should write or draw and I just let me hand do it. I was watching and conscious of the whole thing but I just let me hand do the drawing putting my consciousness on hold. It wasn't scary at all.

I, myself, probably would not take a chance with it, but that is just me. I would have to put it in the same category of the ouija board. I know a lot of people feel that both of these methods are simply the unconscious mind taking over and allowing messages that we have blocked for one reason or another to come through. However, it would be my luck to get a hold of something really nasty (I did have a bizarre ouija experience in my teens). Like you mentioned, I don't like the idea of something taking over my body.
I did see something a while back about a woman in California who had a bed and breakfast using both the ouija and automatic writing and unleashing a whirlwind of really negative activity. I would be cautious. I'm sure some folks have used it and everything was just fine, but it would just be my luck...!

I've tried it but, no results. I could be that I was holding back too much. I look at automatic writing as having two differnt types: 1- relaxing and letting you subconsious take over. Like a dream, only your awake and 2-form of communication with a spirit. Which seems to me would need precautions such as appropriat prayers and such. I wouldn't think it would be as dangerous as a Ouji board because you would be trying to communicate with someone specifically, however whose to say which spirit answers?

Nakis, that's really cool about your experience. Too bad you don't still have those symbols. It would be interesting to look them up.

I have tried a couple of times, but didn't get much, but then, I wasn't very well versed on the psychic and paranormal then. I feel that automatic writing is not so much allowing someone/something to control you... I see it as more like channeling. You are picking up the information, much as a regular psychic doing a reading, and it transfers to writing via your subconscious, and your hand seems to work as if it had it's own mind. I could be way off track here, but this is the general feeling I get about automatic writing.

I forget his name... one of the more popular psychics... George something (?)... when he does a reading like John Edward, he sits with a tablet and scribbles. Is he automatic writing? Or what? I've always been curious about him...
