Last night, I had just put the girls to bed and was waiting for them to fall asleep (they are in the same room so it takes a while now).
As I sat there, I heard a noise at the front window. I got up, went to the window and pulled the vertical blinds apart. What I saw still is freaking me out. It was Tank and he was trying to get in. I unlocked the door and got outside all of 2 seconds and there was nothing there. Little did I know what he was trying to warn me about until a few hours later.
After it got dark, and the blinds had been closed, someone tried to break into my home through that same window. That freaks me out much more than seeing ghosts. The screen had been intact and when Sookie alerted me to the noise she heard (which I couldn't hear with 2 fans going), I got up and went to the window just in time to see 2 figures bolting around my house. Probably scared out of their wits because Sookie got to the window before I did and boy, she was snapping! Her teeth were ALL showing and she was telling them not to mess with the ladies of the house.
I called 911 and the police with k-9 units were there within about 15 minutes (which is quick). They were able to find them!!!!! I guess it's difficult for them to climb a mountain in the dark! Idiots! I'm thrilled about that.
Tim's worried about going to work now, and I can't lie, I'm a little (lot) nervous about staying here alone at night too but with Sookie with me and the girls, I'm safer than I thought.
What was the sweetest is that after the police left and everything, Sookie did her rounds and checked on the girls for about an hour!
Tank looked so real! He was without a doubt life-like and had the little stud collar that we'd gotten him! Talk about a sweet little guardian!

Wow!!!!! MamaBear!!!! How very scary that had to be!!!! Thank goodness that you had Sookie!! And, little Tank... I think he was trying to warn you ahead of time, but sometimes, we have a really hard time knowing what it means, until later. Next time you see him, you would sure want to consider the possibility that he is warning of a coming danger. I think it is so special that he has stayed around as a guardian. I am just relieved that you and the girls are OK. Without Sookie, this could have been pretty terrible. I am so glad you have her!!!

Thanks Azspirit, I feel very lucky! I know that it could have been far worse.
That's the unfortunate about the 2 dimensions of being... sometimes, us humans don't clue in ... most times, like this time, it's in hindsight.

Nancy I responded to this post over at Bark Back. But it still is amazine. Good little Tank. I am suprised that Sookie didn't sense Tank too. Maybe she did in her own way. As az said, Tank may get into the habit of showing up to you as a warning. ;-)

Thank God you and the girls are ok! That is just way too much excitement in one evening! Bless little Tank for his help. I'm glad they caugh the suckers. Maybe installing a security system wouldn't be a half-bad idea. =\

Love & hugs,
Kell

That was too cool of Tank. I'm glad everything turned out so well even if it did give you a good scare. Good ole Sookie.

Thanks all. Sookie's still doing her rounds in the evening. She's made it a point to add windows to her check list. The little angel gets up on my cedar chest to check out the girls' windows now!

I will keep in mind what you all have said about Tank showing up as a warning.
I think all that scary evening has made Sookie realize that this is her HOME now and she's still welcome to warn us and react within reason! As you can imagine, she came into another dog's territory by moving here and a very mean male at that!
All is well now and we're definitely getting an alarm system soon!
