I was watching John Edwards yesterday. He made the statement that spirits don't have a voice because they don't have a body anymore. If that is true then I am crazy as a loon.He says that he gets pictures like things that have happened to him and relitives.Just because that's the way it works for him doesn't mean that is law. What do all of youy think? I agree with you Bonnie, I think John Edwards was just basing what he said on his own experiences. (I didn't see the program). I personally think that spirits are able to manifest in different ways to different people. Some people might see something visually, others may get a mental image. Some may hear an actual voice, others may only get the sensation mentally of hearing someone speak. Maybe they sense which form we will most likely be receptive to in order to take notice of them?

Here I am to throw a wrench in the works! I don't think that spirits have a voice. Not the kind of voice that we have anyway. I believe that they can alter the world around them to make noise and in some cases (Kell, your slamming door) only the person they want to hear will hear something, be it a voice or crash or whatever. EVPs are at such a low frequency because it takes so much energy to make the noise where we can actually hear it. And have we documented yet with scientific equipment that when someone hears a voice it actually makes sound waves? Did that tree really make a sound in the woods? JK But my point is (splitting hairs here) the voices we hear are not created the same way as with living people. Which is how I took John's explanation.

No body - no vocal chords - no voice. Mental Telepathy, yes! That's how I think this works. The sounds heard and the flashes of pictures seen are a form of telepathy. ;-)

I can definitely see the logic in that, but I guess I'm thinking about cases in which an actual physical voice has manifested. Ex: Waiters hearing sounds of a party taking place when the resteraunt is closed, etc... cases in which sounds were heard by a group rather than just an individual. I know that would be categorized under residual energy, which would be a little different than actual intelligent communication. Interesting post!

Personally I've been communicated with by words, images, feelings and thoughts.
I agree in the thought that Edwards may have been alluding to spirits not having vocal cords so that they don't communicate in voice(vibrations in the air by vocalization). But I know that can communicate in words. Spirits have literally spoken to me. I've also had communications that were images. Some were based on feelings. Some were thoughts without images and words.
I think there are many ways for spirits to communicate.
But if spirits can affect physical matter why can't that approximate voice by vibrating the air? It seems that it should be possible. It may not be just mental telepathy for verbal communication.
