...and a warning to all of us to love to shop the garage sales.

The cherished item you buy second hand may also be the cherished item of a spirit. I've seen many a post where there have been no spirit activity in a house until something was bought second hand and brought into the house.

I'm not saying "don't buy second hand", I do it all the time. What I am saying is research your religious beliefs for a cleansing ritual - for some it's sprinkling holy water or smudging with sage and saying a prayer to release any spirits attached to those items - and I'd do it in the driveway before you bring it into the house.

Also, if you get a chance to preview items before a sale, take pictures with a digital camera (I don't know if a polaroid would work but maybe it would - only use a 35mm if you're got time to develop before the sale), to see if any orbs show up. This could help you decide if you really want that item before you pay.

Residual hauntings are also known to be recorded on natural substances such as wood, metal, or stone. I'm not sure what you can do to release a residual haunting but I'm hoping someone else on the board will give us some ideas. This is the reason that I've resisted buying mirrors, used doors, etc. - I do get some strange looks when I'm attracted to wood furniture when I question the seller about its history (are previous owner's living or dead? reason for selling?)

Keep this stuff in mind when you see something that you really need - pay attention to your vibes - no matter how much you need it, if the vibes are bad, don't buy! [Shock]

I believe in this so much because I've had a few quirky experiences due to somethings bought at a yard sale....
I spotted these 2 lovely cameo's... They are beautiful and very old, you can tell they are hand=made and I was shocked when the people only wanted $2 for both!
The weirdest thing is... I feel like a different person when I'm working on them. It's an odd feeling but a good one.. Passed life? Who knows!

Thanks for the warning! This is something most people don't think about when they are out bargain shopping. Definitely something to keep in mind.

I absolutely believe that spirits can attach to items. This is one thing that bothers me alot about used clothing in particular.

I have gone into a couple of stores who sell 'vintage clothing'. and I can barely stay in the store, the vibes are so strong!!! I just creeps me out!!! I also have a hard time in Salvation Army and Goodwill Stores, for the same reasons. I used to shop there for milk glass, but the activity really gives me a very antsy feeling. Guess I should go and do a little photography in some of those stores!! I might catch something good!!!! LOL

I agree 100% with you Connie.
I'm another second hand junkie. I'm always stopping at garage sales and flea markerts looking for stuff.
Before buying something I usually try to sense the item first. If I get any kind of funny feeling about something I usually leave it alone. I've been pretty fortunate so far.

Have you ever found an item at a garage sale or flea market that just calls you? I went to this flea market in NY. I wasn't finding anything I wanted. I was just walking down an aisle when I had to look into a tent. I saw this big piece of iron work. But I just had to keep looking back at it. I was drawn into the tent. I ended up buying it. For some reason it just attract me.

I just had a sudden realization. I was in my kitchen a couple of weeks ago (about a week or two after I bought it) when I head a woman's voice say "please don't". There were no woman in the house at the time. The voice came from in front of my fridge. The piece of iron work is in between the wall and the fridge.
OK so I'm guilty. geesh. It's a new home for me but I didn't sense anything in the house before I moved in or shortly after. And this iron work feels nothing but good. Did I bring her home? Is she the reason I found the iron work so attractive? I do love good iron work. Always have. And this one is very nice.

I get the same feeling when I go second hand clothes shopping Az. All the vibes I get from all the clothes tends to freak me out. Whenever I go to a SA store I end up going through the racks pretty fast and end up feeling a bit overwhelmed by the time I'm done.

Way cool - I'd say it's really possible you brought something home. Now you've got to decide if you want to live with it. "Please don't" what? - Don't eat that bacon cheese burger (could be a nag) - Don't hide the iron work behind the fridge - maybe she just wants it displayed better to match the feelings you've got for it. I think that would be my next project to getting settled - or at least make some "out loud" remarks about what you plan to do with it, that way she knows it has not been forgotten.

I have been drawn to things like this before - the last thing was a little glass and brass candle holder. It sat cockeyed on a table, totally tarnished, the glass part even looked like it might be chipped but I saw possibilities - I payed my buck (strangely the woman made me promise to take care of it for her - she was helping grampa with the sale but this was her's and she'd left it there when she was a teen),I took it home and took it apart - there was a rod down the middle that held everything together, once I had hubby straigten the rod and I polished all the pieces, everything went back together beautifully - the glass turned out not to be chipped, just out of place.

"Don't eat the bacon cheeseburger!" LOL Connie! Interesting story Nakis!!
I love old stuff, my house is filled with it -- could be the reason for some of the funny goings on over the years. I do know what you mean about some things just giving off odd vibes. I do generally avoid anything that is too creepy, but I've also gotten a sense of "please take me to a good home where I'll be taken care of." That happened with my sofa. There were a lot of coincidences involving its sale, and I think it really and truly wanted to come home with me. (Same thing with all those shoes I buy, really they just want to come home with me!) ;-)
Another incident of that feeling was with a delicate antique christening gown. I could see the young mother who made it 100 years ago sewing the dainty tucks and lace in anticipation of the infant she longed to hold. I saw it and knew there was no way I could leave without it.
I've also passed things up because they just didn't feel right. I went to one antique store once where I felt really overwhelmed by some sort of malevolent energy (it was upstairs in an old building.) I'm probably not as careful about this stuff as I should be, but I try to follow my gut instinct on what feels right.
