This afternoon Steve and I were talking about the movie that is going to be on tonight, The Shining, the mini series. Well I told him that since he wasn't going to be able to see it I would tape it for him. Now that movie scared the poop out of me before and I said that I hoped that I didn't scare myself silly watching it tonight. Then in a louder voice I said "I hope nothing else will scare me silly either". Would you believe it as soon as I said that my lamp turned itself off, by itself. Could somebody please tell me what could possibly be wrong with a lightbulb that would make it do that on a regular basis, then behave perfectly normal for a month and start up again when I said that??????? It's either a darn freaky lightbulb or something else that have alot of nerve. >:-( Arrgggggg.

Is it always the same lamp that does this? What about brand of lightbulbs? The same brand, or do they vary? Are you saying that they do not burn out completely, just go off, then come back on? What about the lamp switch.... does it ever move?

Kinda creepy if i tonly does this when you're talking about spooks! =O Did anything happen during the movie?

Renee, I have had a similar situation. It seems like when we have had periods of activity, our lights go a little haywire. We've checked for electrical problems and can't find any. Here in the computer/sunroom, I've had bulbs literally split in half in a clean break. This happened twice, and it has me stumped.
After the first sighting of our ghost lady, we all witnessed one lightbulb in our chandelier going nuts, flickering on and off.
I know spirits are supposed to be able to manipulate electrical appliances and such, and maybe that is the case with what is going on with these lights.
It really sounds like your ghost has some degree of intelligence, in that he/she is aware of the environment and what you are saying. Either that, or it has a really sick sense of humor! ;-)
Do you have any idea of who the ghost is? Keep us updated.

The same thing happens to us! Weird! It never did it before and about 2 mths before moving, that's when it started. We've had that same lamp for 5 yrs now!
I saw that the shining was on last night but wasn't about to watch it! You're braver than I am Renee! =P

I'm putting down a brief history of weird things in my apt. for you guys so that you don't have to go thread hopping. =) I figured it would be best to get all in one place.

Miranda, your right- not nice!!

Kell, It's mostly just the one light bulb that goes off by itself and back on by itself, the switch does not move. I thought at first it might be that the filliments were getting over heated but the bulb does it at any time, wether the light has been turned on a long time or not, and it goes through weeks of inactivity with the lamp being in use the same as it was before. My little history will tell you about it.

Carrie, I don't know what in the world is going on. Just as I've decided that it's something perfectle explainable going on it does something funny that makes me go, huh? You have my sympathies it this is happening to you too. Sometimes theres just enough activity to make you think it's a ghost but not quite enough to make you sure. I think your right about the wicked sense of humor. Some one is playing with me.

Nancy, I'm not brave at all. I just taped the show. I figured it would be just as well to watch it during the day.

It all started in January when I was the only one awake in the morning, I was reading a book at the kitchen table when one of my wind-up music boxes started to play itself. The music box is actually a snowglobe with kitties in it, I have 3 others, all of them are sitting in the living room on a trunk with other nicknacks. It had been at least a year since I had played any of them. A week or so after that the trunk itself became noisy. I kept hearing knockings and I'd swear something was banging around inside of it but it's not possible any thing was inside because only books are in there and the trunk itself hadn't been opened in several years. That same evening I knocked on the trunk and the bookcase behind me knocked back(freaked me out). I haven't heard any unusual noises like that since then. Then the lights started to act funny. The fan light started to turn itself off then back on by itself. I move the light bulb to the bedroom where it continued to do it for three days. At this point I decided that the bulb was just funky, then it stopped doing it for weeks. Then for whatever reason it started back up again. Sometimes it happens then for weeks nothing then it starts up. In the past few weeks one of the kitchen lights(not sure which one) has acted up several times. It's never been when I'm looking in that direction. About two months ago my husband mentioned that when he comes home from work late at night(I'm already asleep) sometimes the radio/stereo was playing his favorite classical music station at low volume. I checked the radio and the timer/alarm was on. The only thing is we never set it and had no idea how to set it. I looked up the instructions and you have to set the time to start, the time to stop, the station you want it to play, the volume and then turn it on. I suppose it's possible to do it by accident but that seems pretty far fetched. I turned the timer off and it's never happened again. The other strange thing is that my dog sometimes growls at nothing. This usually happens when she is laying on the kitchen floor. I'm not sure if she's doing it for attention or something is bugging her. I should also tell you she is blind.

I'm not sure if there is a spirit in the house or if there are other explanations. Most of this can be explained in a mundane way, except for the music box(nobody has come up with an explanation there), but it seems strange that all these weird things have all happened only within the last 6mo. Neither the music box or the radio has played since the first times and I could find no significance in the dates nor have I felt any disturbance in the environment(no cold spots or hot spots).

That is odd Renee. It would be interesting to take some pics and see if anything showed up. It does sound like there is some activity going on!

Yikes! =O!

Either get a new light bulb or move the lamp somewhere else and see what happens. Have you changed the bulb and it still happens? Maybe there is a short in the lamp and if the temp and humidity are just right....? I don't know. That would have really freaked me out though.

Jeeez! The bookshelf knocking back would have freaked me out!! =O!

Kim, that's a good point about the humidity and such.

It's also possible that the lamp has something wrong.... but didn't you say that the lightbulb will flicker, even when you move the same bulb to another lamp in a different room? Hmm. I suppose the whole house/apt could have electrical problems, but I think you'd know it if that were the case.

Yes, if you can, try to take some pictures. You might just be surprised. ;-)

Oh... I meant to add, that in my experience, you won't necessarily feel extreme cold or hot spots. We don't seem to here anyhow, yet the place can be rife with activity. =\ I have only felt one absolutely freezing cold spot once down around my ankle.
