I was wondering if anyone feels this way about old things.
Everytime I am at an antique fleamarket, museum, or around old things I get strange feelings. It's not like when you pick up stuff, like images, feelings, vibrations about a particular item or building or spirit. I've noticed if I stay in a museum for a while, or look at old items for a while, or even just be in an old building for a while, I get dizzy, I feel disjointed, like something isn't quite right. Like either I shouldn't be there or these things shouldn't be here.
I love learning about old things. I own a Victrola that was made in the 1910's and I just think it's fantastic that we made something that makes sound, you can adjust the sound level all without electricity or electronics. I love old houses. Everytime I go to a place that is old or has old stuff I am eager to learn about them. To know what those who came before us did and used to do.
Maybe I just sensitize myself too much and keep my mental energy up for too long.
Does anyone else get that way??

I know EXACTLY how you feel. Every time I go anywhere that has a lot of antiques or any kind of museum with old artifacts. I pick up a lot of things from the items themselves, but I also get a strange feeling of something being different or out of place (or time). My aunt recently took me to an extremely large flea market near where I live and we spent the day there. By the time we left, I was totally fried. I went home and meditated for quite a while before I started to feel 'normal' again.

Me too! I love going to museums, antique shops and such, but I've also had that odd dizzy feeling that comes with it. I have also had very strong emotions of just "having" to have something, that was very different than just wanting an object. It is more like a "please take this because I know you will take care of it and treasure it like I did" feeling. I love my antiques, and there might even be some things I'll attach myself to once I'm gone! [Wink]

Yup, same here. I think the oddest feelings I get are in antique shops or vintage clothing stores. Feelings that aren't like the normal "someone watching" or ghostlike really. Hard to explain. I guess it's much like Snoopy said - something about the place just feels out of place/time. Vintage clothing shops are really bothersome! There's another old building downtown, now a costume rental place, that is utterly creepy. I don't know why, but you go in and all you can think about is getting your business done and leaving! What is it about clothing with me? [Laughing]

Carrie, I've had that same strong attraction to an item. In particular, a ladies pocket watch circa 1890's - set in a carved wooden case. It was beautiful! Something about just made me really want it for myself, but it was Christmastime so I didn't buy it. I should go back and see if it's still there! [Razz] I've had other things in that same shop call to me... a WWII German helmet (wasn't too sure I could deal with having it though), a very old Mahjong game and a single ladies button-up shoe! [Smile]

I also have a great fascination with the old photos, but have never bought any. Of course, they're people I don't know, but I love looking at them. Am I the only one that likes old photos of unknown people? [Nutty]

I love looking at the old photos too. Just knowing that someone long ago loved that person enough to want to carry their image with them, or have it hanging on their walls. I've always been amazed that a family member could part with anything like that! I come from a long line of pack rats, so it is a little odd to me. What stories those old photos could tell!

Good, I'm not the only one! [Razz] I always wonder what kind of lives they had.... the same things I ponder when reading headstones. What did that person see in their lifetime, etc.

I'm thinking that some of these pics may fall into the hands of antique stores because of estate sales and the like... and I suppose some folks just aren't too interested in keeping photos of kin they don't know. [Sad] I'd never give my old photos away! [No!]

Not that I'm happy anyone else feels drained like that but I'm glad I'm not the only one.

I love old pictures of places I know. Seeing what they once were, how they are now and seeing what they will be in the future (as time goes on).
I like checking out the picture postcard dealers at antique flea markets for places I know to see what they have for pictures of places I know. And old maps for the same reason.

Don't do that Carrie. Attach yourself to something. I'd rather see you in heaven. [Smile] [Smile] Provided I get there of course. [Smile] [Smile]

I know exactly what you mean. I work in a museum and have had handle many artifacts. Some very old and some more recent. I think that many people have "feelings" when handling this things because the original owner put so much value into them. They wouldn't have save them if they didn't mean anything to them and I believe that because of this many sensitive people pick up on this. [Embarrassed]

I just can't believe the level of feelings I get when I am in a shop of antiques, but the places that bother me most are vintage clothing shops!!! YIKES!!! We visited an old vintage clothing store on the second floor in a little strip mall once. WOW!! That place impacted me in a very memorable way, and it gave me a feeling like I just wanted to run!!!! The clothing, shoes, jewelry, etc, was packed in so tight, the aisles were barely one person wide in some areas. I felt kind of like there were hundreds of spirits there just clammoring for my attention!! Kind of like when a crowd gets into a frenzy around a famous person, and nearly trample one another to get close enough to touch the famous one, or get an autograph. This is how the barrage of the spirits felt to me!! I was just overwhelmed.
I get the same feelings, though not as intense, at antique stores, and second hand clothing and furniture stores. The mere thought of buying certain things would have to be ruled out, because of the vibes.
So, I guess this is what alot of us are enduring. It can be a very creepy feeling!! [Shock]

I know just what you mean! I love going to flea markets, thrift stores, antique markets...and it's not just for the interesting items for sale, it's the way I FEEL in these places...the vibrations I feel there.

The majority of the time, it feels really nice...like the vibrations of daily life..feeling different time periods..to me it's sort of like being in a room with 1,000 different perfumes and enjoying them all in their uniqueness and together, as well.

Every now and then I'll run across an item that gives me negative vibes...I've had that happen once with an old red steamer trunk...the thing horrified me, for some reason, I was compelled to open it, but scared to death to. It felt like a haunted house. It was the most utterly repulsive thing to me. That's when I realized I was able to feel vibrations from objects...I'd never thought about it before. The next time I went into that antique mall..that trunk was gone. I worry for whoever bought it, if it was sold.

I also sometimes get that dizzy, short-of-breath, thin-air feeling in certain spots in antique stores and old houses, as well. It's sort of an "Unreal" kind of feeling and I want to sit down and catch my breath. It's different from the adrenelin "Fight or flight" reaction I get in other places where I feel spirit energies. I still haven't figured out what causes these different types of reactions.

That is a good description of the feeling, Pretzelogic. The only thing I can compare it to is a panic attack. I only had the really bad kind of heebie jeebies once in an antique shop, and I'm not sure if it was the merchandise, or the building itself (built in the 1870's). Anyway, I was just fine until I went to the third floor, and got the most bizarre, surreal feeling and the idea of "feet, don't fail me now!" [Laughing] I don't know who or what it was, but I didn't want to intrude on it! [No!]

I also love museums ,antique stores, old house, buildings and graveyards. The weird thing is at antique stores it really gives me the creeps to touch some of the stuff. My friend tried to stick an old hat on my head and I freaked out.I also will not put on old jewelery.I am also drawn, and have been since I was a kid,to anything about the holocost.I feel when I look at pictures or watch movies of that time that I should recognize or remember someone or thing of that place. Its frustrating because its like I have a fuzzy memory in my head and I should know certain places as well as the back of my hand but I can't remember.I keep waiting for that one picture that will spark a memory and put it all together.bye for now. I just remember something that happened to me awhile back. Ghostlooker's post jarred a memory with the reference to the holocaust. I was visiting the Holocaust museum in DC. It was my second visit. When we got off the elevators that take you to the exhibit. I had the most unease feeling going through the first part of the museum. As you get off the elevator you have to walk through this hall like area, it so jammed packed with people that you get the feeling of caustophia. I also felt an unease feeling in another part of the museum.
They have a railroad car that was used to transport the Jewish people to the concentration camps. You have to walk through the car in order to get through the museum. As I was walking through, I felt the sensation of being cramped in there with many people and also feeling of fear. [Eek! 2]
