Flipping through programs last night, we found a show on Discovery called "A Haunting in Georgia." Did anyone else catch this? I'm hoping they show it again. What we saw was really interesting. It was a young family with a long history of paranormal phenomenon in their home. Basically, they had the place looked at by scientists, psychics and people in the religious community. For the most part, they all agreed that the mother and daughters were mediums and were tuning in on a different level than most people. They also mentioned that this type of thing tends to run in families, which I thought was interesting. Anyway, if they show it again, be sure to catch it, it was a good program. I think tonight they are showing something about spontaneous human combustion.

I caught all but the last half hour of it, it was apparently 2 hours long and I just couldn't stay up till 3am lol. I found it very interesting although I wasn't buying the positive ion theory. Maybe that had something to do with it but I think there was spirit activity there. Of course another point of annoyance was they way that the church the people attended were so quick to assume demonic activity. It seems to me that the people in the family were just magnets for spirit activity. I really like the psychic they had on there, she was just cool.

I had some of the same impressions. I missed about the first 30 minutes of it, but caught the rest. I didn't buy the scientist's ion theory either -- since when do ions leave scratch marks?
As for the church people, I had the same thoughts, they were pretty quick to scream "demonic". However, I would be wondering myself given the description of the faceless guy and the scratching -- I liked the psychic also, she seemed very knowledgable and down to earth.
At the end of it, the teenager made reference that some things had happened that she wouldn't even tell her parents about. I really thought it would have been great if that psychic would have been allowed to give the girl some sort of guidance or mentoring on this ability. The kid was obviously very uncomfortable with all of it, and from the looks of the church, I would say they would discourage contact with psychics or developing this ability. [Sad]

Glad you mentioned this, Carrie! I wasn't able to because my silly computer was down much of the day yesterday and then I simply forgot! [Razz]

I also caught the show - by accident! It was really good! I want to see it again on Sunday. (Thanks, Connie for looking that up! [Wink] ) I also do not agree with the 'ion' theory. Um, they totally overlooked the fact that the little girl could identify Mr. Gordy in photos - yet they tried to say it was hallucination. Sorry, don't think so. [Roll Eyes]

I also didn't agree with the church jumping to conclusions it was 'demonic' - although, I do think there were some nasties in the house after a fashion. It really is too bad that no one ever gave them some empowering information on how to deal with the haunting. [Sad]

I just saw this show! Thanks Kell for posting the time and day. It was interesting to say the least. Boy did I have deja vu watching it. Having lived in GA for a short while the area was so familiar.

I also don't feel that any of the spirits were demonic in nature. I wish the family did more research and learned about smudging and surrounding themselves with a white light. They knew the names of some of the spirits. I kept shouting at the TV (yeah, I'm one of those people who talk to the tv) ask Mr. Gordy to help. And tell them they are dead! The mother and daugher are very sensitive. But the daughter more so. She would be the one to talk to them. Tell them they are not welcome and to go to the light. I wanted so much to help them. If I still lived in GA I just might drive up there and whup on some ghosts! LOL But seriously, I felt the Mr. Gordy was helping the family. And I don't think that Lon was the dark spirit. He seemed confused to me. Not angry. The dark one is a separate entity.

Did anyone else catch this show? What did you think?

I watched the show the first time a few weeks ago and then today I watched it again. That was interesting to say the least.
One part was very similar to my life. They said that no matter where the family moves to the spirits will still be with them. And recently from moving across country I figured it might stop. But it did for the first 6 or 7 months and now its getting back to the same ol' pranks that they used to do. Which dosent bother me anymore because I had gotten used to it. But I feel no threat so let them play [Toothy Grin]
But I do feel sorry for that family because of all the sadness and scary happenings they have endured, what a shame, and that investigator wasnt much help.

Yep, I've had it out with the TV twice now that I've watched this. [Laughing]

I still do not agree with Mr. Professor that these are hallucinations caused by positive ions and the like. C'mon! This little girl just picked a particular dead guy out of a bunch of photos, but she's hallucinating!? I think not. Quite frankly, I think the man was very uncomfortable with the whole thing and rather keen to just try and explain it away. [Roll Eyes]

It is sad that no one helped them - or more like, they weren't directed properly. I get the feeling they never even got to speak with the psychic gal - they only saw her video tape. I think she would have been MUCH help to all involved, the daughter in particular.

I think Mr. Gordy was a good spirit and he was there for the dau. when she was a small child to be her friend; as she grew older, he became more of a protector. Con/Ron was confused, not the bad guy, I agree. That dark man was a nasty though - very much reminded me of my own run ins with 'it'.

I talk to the TV also, Pandora. [Embarrassed] I agree, I think Mr. Gordy was a protective spirit, maybe to keep nasty, no-face guy at arms length? Did anyone else catch it when the psychic said she sensed an entity outside that was a "caretaker"? The neighbor had said earlier that Mr. Gordy handled the affairs for the family in addition to being a family friend. I also think Lon was just confused, I don't think he was harmful at all. I also had the thought that the little girl ghost they mentioned may have been attached to the youngest daughter.
I thought it was interesting about the idea that sensitivity, abilities, etc... run in families. I wonder if it may skip generations? I've got some folks in my family who are very sensitive, and others who are as psychic as a doorknob.

I saw something about this on tv awhile back. The little girl is definately sensitive. What disappointed me was the whole religious slant that they put on the whole thing...putting the spirits into "Angel" and "Demon" catagories and this is really no help.

Spirit sensitivity and psychic ability does run in families...I found this out when I met my biological Mother and later on my biological sister..both of them are very psychic and sensitive. My biological Mother says that her Father was this way also. So who knows how far back these things go? It was so awesome when I met my sister for the first time and we just automatically started talking about "Sensing" things and it went from there..we had such a strong connection it was unbelievable. She has even seen apparitions in her parents house growing up. Another thing that we have in common is our attraction to energies from houses and buildings.

I guess this is just another one of the great mysteries of the universe how this works.

The shouting match between me and the TV started when Mr. Scientist said that Heidi was picking up on Place Memories. Her ESP was picking up "recordings" from the environment. She could see Mr. Gordy in her mind and then hallucinated the rest! Excuse me? How does a hallucination of a man she never met interact and ask/answer questions with her? And how was she able to pick out his grave so quickly when she couldn't read?

I think there may be a connection with positive ions and haunting. I think the ions may make it easier for the spirits to manifest. A sort of gateway or something. I don't believe the entire family is hallucinating the same things.

[Laughing] That's when it started with me too, Kim! I was saying "He's not a residual haunting, he interacts with her! Sheesh!!"

I caught most of the show on Sunday. It was good for the most part. The show stayed unbiased and showed different possible explanation along with the families experiences. I still felt that more could have been done to help the family.

Most people want what they see and experience to fit in with their beliefs.
The minister believed they were demons because that is what his faith was.
The scientist saw residual images and scientific causes.
It's too bad they couldn't keep more of an open mind.

And that psychic only went through and said what she felt. She couldn't help them clear the place? Help some of the spirits move on? Kept the nasties at bay? I felt dissappionted that she didn't help or maybe the show didn't say she did?????
I liked her explanation of how the nasty was really three spirits. How spirits are attracted to people whom are sensitive and to other spirits like them. And how some spirits serve to help.

Maybe we should start a TV talker club. Hey if you send out energy it does get there. Maybe they'll get a sudden epiphany sometime with the help of the energy sent to them by energized viewers like us. [Smile]

I agree that these are just spirits who have moved in because of the family. Especially the sensitive mother and daughter. The bad ones are just inciting fear so they can feed of the energy of the emotions. I think spirits move to where the light of certain people are. Sensitive people.

I think all people are sensitive. Some more than others due to heredity. I read a book on how some genetic lines have more sensitive/developed nervous systems. This may help. I think that the people who are like doorknobs turn off their abilities and/or ignore them. Or won't tell anyone about them. If you gain their confidence I bet they have stories to tell. I've found that everyone has a story to tell if you can get them to open up.

And there are so many aspects to everything. Sensitive people. Moving spirits. Places with higher energies. Energy cycles. Times of higher energy.
You ever been in a place that seems to have so much energy to it? Or you go outside and the day just feels like it has so much energy (this morning was like that)? Or a time of a season that feels spiritually charged.? Or a person?
You really can't attribute an occurance to just one thing. Or one cause. We live in a complex world. [Nutty] I'm not saying anyone here is making it out too simple. I'm just making a point on how all things don't fit into one catagory like the minister and scientist believe.
