Yes, I did hear about that - it's very sad.

My heart is with the victims and their families.
Well, I think all the past bombings, and especially 9/11, should have been everyone's wake up call that, no, the world isn't as safe as we all deemed it to be - even in our own back yards. However, we can't lock ourselves up in our homes because of it. That's exactly what these terrorists want... to ruin our lifestyle, economy, etc., etc. God knows they're getting enough satisfaction by frightening people en masse.
I know we tend to take things for granted and assume certain places are safe, but I'd not have been one to consider Indonesia a safe place to be (even before 9/11!), based on it's recent history. I hope they do step up security measures for the World Cup, because you can bet this is a target. Will the terrorists carry through on anything? Not necessarily, but I'm sure it's a target nonetheless. ANY large event would be.
We just have to do what we can - personally - to keep ourselves safe. For instance, don't travel to countries of questionable repute. As a tourist, don't spend a lot of time in the more touristy parts of a city because that's were they like to strike - wherever they can take out the most people. Is it considered high season for tourists in Indonesia right now?
