You may or may not have heard about the car bomb outside a Bali nightclub the other day that has so far killed 216 and wounded many.
Bali was a tourist resort for a lot of Kiwis and Aussies as well as everyone else.
http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/0,2106,0a7433,00.html[/URL] offers some of the stories since the tragic and horrible event.
Is this the warning that nowhere is now safe? Or maybe it's safer to stay inside your own home?
NZ will be host to the America's Cup (I think early next year). Will this be another target?

Yes, I did hear about that - it's very sad. [Cry] My heart is with the victims and their families.

Well, I think all the past bombings, and especially 9/11, should have been everyone's wake up call that, no, the world isn't as safe as we all deemed it to be - even in our own back yards. However, we can't lock ourselves up in our homes because of it. That's exactly what these terrorists want... to ruin our lifestyle, economy, etc., etc. God knows they're getting enough satisfaction by frightening people en masse. [Oh Well]
I know we tend to take things for granted and assume certain places are safe, but I'd not have been one to consider Indonesia a safe place to be (even before 9/11!), based on it's recent history. I hope they do step up security measures for the World Cup, because you can bet this is a target. Will the terrorists carry through on anything? Not necessarily, but I'm sure it's a target nonetheless. ANY large event would be.

We just have to do what we can - personally - to keep ourselves safe. For instance, don't travel to countries of questionable repute. As a tourist, don't spend a lot of time in the more touristy parts of a city because that's were they like to strike - wherever they can take out the most people. Is it considered high season for tourists in Indonesia right now?

I just hope they stop them soon. I know we got worldwide forces on this, but the Al Quaida seem to be slipping through everyones fingers.
If you live in a non-descript part of the US or the world, you're probably safer since they go for the numbers and the spot light.
Not very comforting but its a lil heads up

Oh, I know, hon. On the morning on 9/11 while everything was going on, we had to wonder if something wasn't headed our way as well. [Sad]

It is scary and I wish we'd catch all of them... but there will always be more. I've always thought--- that once a particular line is crossed (as applied to criminal behavior), it will surely happen again. For example, school shootings. Once the first one happened, it wasn't a very big step for more to occur. With that in mind, I think we can expect more attacks, wherever they can do it. [Oh Well]

You're right though - we need to keep a heads up and be aware of our surrounding at all times! [Wink]

One of the reasons we decided to move back to the boondocks is knowing that Houston will eventually be a target (oil business, Bush Sr.'s home, chemical plants, etc...) It is a scary world we live in. I'm not going to hide, but I'm not taking any chances I don't have to. I worry about overseas travel. We will be facing our trip to China in the months to come, and it does concern me.
I agree with Kell, the more this happens, the more it will happen. These creeps know they can strike out at our vulnerable points and they all get ideas from each other. I just don't get the whole mentality of it.

Interesting thought...the mentality of it.
For a single person to commit acts of terror against another person, they must be out of their mind, or physical vessles for pure evil.
I believe it is the latter.
Unfortunately, realising that there is more than one person involved in the terrorist acts...especially from the last couple of years, we know there is more than one person.
I don't know about you guys but my attitude towards these people is they have crossed the line of humanity and have become demons. They no longer deserve the rights that our soldiers fight to protect for us. They no longer deserve the rights to freedom and they no longer deserve the right to live in peace without threat.
What they have done in the past decade may have only been acknowledged by the world at large in the last 2, however, these attrocious acts have spawned a ripple effect and the evil of some is infecting many others.
Hold tight to your friends and family, no matter what your destiny holds, if you make sure things are right between you and your loved ones and make sure that your right within your spiritual beliefs, then no amount of fear through terrorism should overwhelm you.
I believe even if these 'devils' aren't punished in this life time, they will be in the next and it will be worse than anything we could dream up.
Don't be reduced to paranoia, just keep your head screwed on at all times and as Kell said 'we need to keep a heads up and be aware of our surroundings at all times'.
