I kept my nephew Caleb today, and it was a normal, pleasant, uneventful day. We had gone shopping, decorated for Halloween, made cookies; just a great day! Anyway, about 1:30, Caleb had laid down for a nap on our bed in the master bedroom. He had been asleep almost 2 hours and I decided to check on him about 3:30. I got to the dining room and could distinctly hear a man's voice, seemingly talking to someone. I walked through, into the kitchen, thinking that by some quirk the tv had come back on by itself (this happens occasionally, weird satellite dish).
Anyway, I walk into the bedroom, and no tv, the voice abruptly stopped! I looked outside to see if it was by chance a meter man, but no one was around. I couldn't make out any words, but the voice sounded a lot like my fathers. This part might have just been wishful thinking, but I am certain I heard a man's voice in conversation! Whatever it was had not disturbed Caleb, he was still zonked out, but I was pretty shocked. [Eek!]

Was someone chatting with a sleeping boy? I think it's possible. Wishful thinking? Possibly, but then again, maybe not! [Smile]
I know what you mean about not making out the words, I had that happen in the kitchen at the other house only this was a woman.

Carrie,
A few things come to mind here.
The first thought I had was maybe another dimension or something. Then I thought about how much I used to like to lay in the bed & listen to my grandparents talking. Maybe Caleb had a visitor & the lull of hearing the voice is why He rested so well, like having a story read to him.
Or then again, my friend always kids me about the voices in my head, maybe you'v got them, too! (just kidding)

LOL, Tess, that was my first thought -- now I'm hearing things! [Nutty] I'm not sure what it was, but it was certainly odd, and it stopped so suddenly. I'll have to see if it ever happens again. Caleb hasn't talked about the "people" he sees at my house in quite a while so I didn't mention anything.
It wasn't the least but frightening, but rather perplexing.

eeeeeeeeeeeeee!!! Yeah, that would unnerve me a bit. [Eek! 2] Hmmm... my first thought was a grandfather too.

Sometimes I think we're able to hear what EVP recordings pick up. It's strange because not everyone in the room/area will always hear these things - almost like only one of you was able to pick up on it. (Or perhaps the ghosts are able to direct who gets to hear it and who doesn't!)
It's especially apparent when you hear something so loud, there's no way someone nearby could've missed it, yet they didn't hear a thing. [Shock]

Maybe you should do a little recording. If you're up for that. [Toothy Grin]

I wish I had thought to ask Caleb if he had been dreaming,I might have been able to get an idea of what was going on. I may get some blank tapes this weekend and see if I can pick anything up. [Wink]

Carrie I have heard things like this many times in the past. Usually at night when all is quiet and I'm nice and calm, I can hear people talking (like a discussion on a radio channel). I use to get up and check all our radios and televisions because I thought something was left on. I have talked to a lot of people who have experienced the same thing as well. Some people call this ghost chatter. I never can quite make out the words, but I find it so fascinating. Oddly it never scares me either. Maybe you will get the chance to hear this voice again! I'd be willing to bet grandpa was paying his young grandson a visit. How wonderful is that!! Did you ever ask Caleb if he heard anybody talking while he was asleep?

I believe that whatever you heard was clearly from someone/thing other than a physical body in the house, since you already said there was just you and your nephew.
I've heard voices before, not often (or I would think I'm going nuts), but if the notion of them are not your own, (like me with the phantom dog the other day...totally out of the blue and took me by surprise), chances are it was a voice of supernatural origin. Your interpretation of whose voice it may have been is another matter completely.
I firmly believe that if we are in touch even a little with the unseen, we get an idea for what is going on, but we also have different views and opinions. Who is to really say what's the right one? Identifying and distinguishing the natural from the supernatural (unless it's dramatic) tends to be something we learn through time and experience.

Hey guys! I'm positive whatever I heard wasn't a figment of my imagination, after I checked everything out, there was no doubt about that. As for who it might have been, I just wish I had listened more carefully. My father had a pretty distinct accent. The sound was muffled, but it did sound something like him. Whatever it was, it was an interesting experience. I didn't get a chance to do an EVP this weekend. We've had so much rain that I wasn't sure if it would interfere with sounds on the tape. I do want to try it, but I'm not sure which room to try it in. Pookiebear, "Ghost Chatter" would have been a good term for this. I'm glad someone else has had this happen!

I don't believe it was a figment of your imagination at all. Why? Because I've experienced this myself on more than one occasion.

When I was living in the country in Mississippi I had all sorts of weird things going on in my house. It wasn't the house...it was the land that my house was sitting on. I would hear footsteps walking through the living room and kitchen, hear keys jingling, my bedside lamp would turn on in the middle of the night and wake me up, I would get up in the morning and all the lights in the house would be on and I always turned everything off before going to bed. No it wasn't electrical because I had everything checked-out and it was good.

I always liked to lie in bed and read at night before going to sleep and the first time I heard the "Talking" it scared me so bad I had my phone in my hand to call 911! I was lying in bed reading and everything was totally quiet and I heard male voices "Muttering"....I couldn't make out a word that was said, but I heard what sounded like a conversation..that kind of tone. Every hair on my body stood on end and my heart felt like it would come out of my chest! Someone was outside my bedroom window! That's where it sounded like it was coming from...then I get up and go through the house to turn the outside lights on and it sounds like it's coming from in the house too. I turned on all the outside lights and looked out to see not a sight of anyone..still the "Muttering" was going on..very low but audible. I was so scared, you wouldn't believe it!

This happened about three times and finally I came to grips with the fact that there was no human involvement in it after almost calling the cops a couple of times. I'd never heard anything like that before and the last thing I thought of was it might be paranormal. I had witnesses to some of the strange and unexplainable things at my house, so it was not just "Imagination". I learned that hearing this low, muttering talking is a sign of a classic haunting.
