Rats! I missed it! I couldn't find where it will be on later this week, but it looks like they will have some good shows on Thursday, including the Haunting of the Myrtles.

Yeah, I'm upset that it doesn't say when/if it will be on again. [Oh Well] It was done much like "A Haunting in Georgia" - just a different case - but I say it goes well beyond ghosts.

I didn't catch the very beginning, but basically, this family had moved into an old funeral home. [Eek!] They had, um, 4 kids, I believe.... the two oldest boys slept down in the basement. There was a room off of the basement that seemed to be the actual 'funeral prep' room of years past. The boys were constantly bothered by spirits, particularly at night. They were terrified and tried repeatedly to tell the parents what they were seeing (the other kids did too), but the parents would have none of it. They insisted the boys were making it up and spreading the fear to the other kids - and later even thought the oldest boy (who had cancer) might have had a mental problem.... just because he was seeing these things. [Roll Eyes]

Well, as time went on, the spirits seemed to become stronger and stronger, esp. in the basement. The boys would actually see the spirits walking around their room, picking up objects, setting them down, etc. erk! They were so scared (and couldn't get the parents to believe), they started sleeping with ALL of their lights on ALL night. The father found out when the electric bill came, got mad, and took out all the lightbulbs in their room, except for 1. (Nice, huh?) That night, they saw what looked like their sister standing on the steps, turning the lights on and off (remember - no light bulbs to go 'on', but the lights came on anyway!)... the youngest boy ran up the stairs after her, he thought, but found she was fast asleep in her own bed up on the second floor!

There was a dark entity that took hold of the oldest boy. He started to change - became very withdrawn from the rest of the family, etc. His brother moved out of the basement room and upstairs to another. The oldest just got worse and worse, emotional-wise,but his cancer did go into remission. One night he attacked his female cousin who had come to stay with them - very out of character for him, since they were once very close.

So, they hauled him off to the mental hospital and as he left, he warned them that the demon would soon be after them now that he's out of the house. Sure enough, almost immediately, the mother was almost strangled by the shower curtain, the cousin's rosary she was wearing around her neck floated up into the air and was broken, spilling the beads all over. Somehow, this entity was able to follow the father to his work (some remote building - he was alone) and his truck started up BY ITSELF and drove through the building, almost hitting him. Lots of weird stuff! (Ok, so now they finally are believing something is going on... !)

They contacted their priest, he came to the house, listened to their story, then told them to just forget about it and it will go away. [Nerd] It didn't work. So, then they made contact with Ed & Lorraine Warren (the famous demonologists). They and their team basically moved into the house, while waiting for the Catholic Church to grant an exorcism. Lots more creepy stuff happened to the family and the investigators - one investigator walked out because he was so frightened. The Church finally agreed to allow an exorcism - and it worked, after going through hell with the entity, of course.

The family moved after that and are okay now.

I may have some things out of order, but this gives you an idea of what the show was about!

Even though the Discovery site didn't say when/if it would show again, maybe if we're lucky, it'll show again this weekend? Keep your eyes peeled! [Big Grin]

Hi Guys-

I caught it last night. The beginning of the show basically described that Paul (the oldest boy, age 14) had a type of cancer that required several times/week treatment. The commute to the hospital was 8 hours roundtrip and the decision to move was based upon this. The family had limited resources but miraculously, the rental amount was within their budget. The mom rented it and the family then joined her. What didn't make sense was why the lease didn't list the previous use for the home and even worse, why there was still embalming equipment in the basement. They stated that embalming tools, tubing, a guerney and more items were still in the home when they rented it. This seems quite odd to me.

The thing that disturbed me the most wasn't that the house was haunted, but the parents lack of faith in their childrens' word. The father forced the boys to continue to stay in the basement even after they swore up and down they had seen and heard ghostly people. Why the parents grew so angry when the children were found asleep in the livingroom in the morning is beyond me. I can understand confusion, but anger? I frankly blame the fact that the oldest boy, after becoming cancer-free, was sent to a loony bin on the parents. Had they listened and had compassion, this family would not have undergone all this trauma.

Did you catch the name of the town, Kell-Kell, or the approximate year? Based on how old the kids were (that were only portrayed in silhouette form during their interviews) I imagine it took place maybe 20 years ago. The younger boy said, at the time of the interview, that he expected that this would be the last time he ever talked about his experiences in the house.

No, I didn't happen to catch which town. I got the feeling that it took place, eh, maybe 10-15 years ago. I'm thinking it was the younger brother who stayed in the basement that was in silhouette, and I figure he was approximately 10 or 12 at the time of the haunting. He seemed to be in his early 20's to me, but I could be wrong.

I'll check out Ed & Lorraine Warren's website to see if there is any mention of this case, the year, etc.

That was quite a story. I also found it more than a bit morbid for parents to have their two young kids living in a basement of a mortuary..more or less in the embalming area with the equipment, sinks, gurney...the whole bit right down there with them. I mean, how creepy and gross is THAT? Then to berate and even PUNISH the kids for coming to them about seeing unexplained things by removing their light bulbs?? I'm sorry, but taking children's lights out of their basement embaling room and forcing them to have only one little tiny desk lamp down there...that borders on abuse.

Another thing...how can a few light bulbs being on run up an electric bill that high? I don't think so. They might have been running the HEAT alot more due to the coldness of the house from what was was in it. That makes more sense to me.

It seemed like a real screwed-up situation from the get-go the way those two treated the boys. Combining that with the stress of the one boy having cancer treatments it probably did open a doorway for some things lurking in the house. When people are divided in a house, it gives more power to whatever is coming against them and these non-human entities take alot of glee in stirring up hate and discontent.

Alot of people like this just plain DON'T BELIEVE in anything other than what they can see in the physical world. They can move into a place like that and not sense a thing or admit to anything happening at all until it gets to the point of no return and people's lives are in danger. This just goes to show that some spirits won't just go away when ignored!
