With Halloween right around the corner and all the horror movies on t.v. this week, I was wondering what everyones favorite scary movies are.

Some of mine are: The Shining (my favorite), Poltergeist, Aliens, The Howling, IT, Pumpkin Head and Sleepy Hollow.

Good thread, Cindy! There are so many to choose from but I'd have to say that my favorite are: Alien, Aliens, House on Haunted Hill (the Vincent Price version),American Werewolf in London, Poltergeist, Blade, and Fright Night.

( Of course Pyscho and The Birds are pretty danged good, too!)

Ther are some really BAD ones out there, as well, like Scream 3, Basket Case, Urban Legend,I know what you did last Summer, I Still Know what you did Last Summer.... to name a few.

The Haunting-original
Psycho (well that wasn't really scary but it's good)
The Others-I love that movie, very creepy feel.
The Shining-TV remake, I've never seen the original.
The Exorcist

This is fun! Sixth Sense is probably my favorite. I don't like gory movies, so I tend to favor the more psychological thrillers. When I saw it, grown men were shreiking in the theater. LOL
I also liked The Others, Sleepy Hollow (although a little too much blood and guts for me) Poltergeist, and I love all of the old creepy Vincent Price movies!

I have From Hell. The royal conspiracy theory is alot of bunk but it's a good movie. I like it.

Carrie, I love The Sixth Sense too. I'm not really big on gory stuff either, much rather be creeped out. [Shock]

I bought "The Others" this weekend at Blockbuster and enjoyed the heck out of it! I LOVED the ending...a real "whoa" effect.

You all named some of my all time favorites...like "The Others", "6th Sense", the original "Haunting of Hell House", "Beloved"

I loved Sleepy Hollow because it really captured the era and feel of that region. I spent my summers along the Hudson and visit the old manor houses that exist from that period.

My brother and I saw "The Ring". Scary, disturbing images,a twisted ending but not as satisfying as 6th Sense and The Others. It is frustrating when the movie ends and you have to many unaswered questions about the characters.

I watched the trailer for The Ring and it did look less than exciting.... confusing, actually. [Oh Well]

Oh yeah I forgot all about "The Sixth Sense" and "The Others"! Two great movies as well. Jeannie, I'm with you on the Sleepy Hollow movie. I loved the whole era effect you get with it. If you haven't seen it yet, it's a perfect Halloween Night movie!

My brother downloaded "The Ring" off the puter and I tell you, I didn't care for it. Not my cup of tea at all.

Oh and my son Michael wanted me to tell you all that his favorite scary movie is Ghostbusters! We're gonna watch that one Halloween night since it's the only scary movie I'll let him see [Toothy Grin] Who Ya Gonna Call????? [Laughing]

Cindy, tell your son that I adore Ghostbusters II. I love it when the lady's fox fur coat starts biting at her and runs off down the sidewalk on it's own. Cheech Marin seeing the Titanic come in and down in the subway all the heads popping up and the ghost train going by. I love that movie.
