I have been remodeling my front room and yesterday I hung my pictures on the wall.I have an electric heater in there and it keeps getting turned on high. This morning I went in there and the heater was on high and one of my pictures was off the wall lieing on the love seat.I keep the door shut and no goes in there except when they leave the house because the room is not ready to use yet.I have no idea what is going on in there. Sounds like you might have a little playful ghostie in your place but I wouldn't entirely rule out any electrical hazzards either. I would say that you should have an electrician come and check it out to be on the safe side... as for the pictures being off the wall, it might be explained by any vibration the heater makes on the wall.

Have you tried catching the ghost in the act via film? Or made an EVP's? WOuld be interesting to see what you end up with...keep us posted

How many times has the picture been moved Bonnie? Is there any history behind that particular picture?

Regarding the heater, I've had many odd things happen with electrical items in my home too, plus ghosties are infamous for using electricity to communicate with us. Your ghostie may be using it to try and get your attention for some reason. They may just want you to acknowledge their presence. It's really hard to say at this point. You could try to get an EVP in that rooms or as Miss Grrl said maybe get something on film.

Take all the circumstances, time of year, etc and see if there might be some connection to a passed loved one. You may just have a mischief-making ghostie on your hands too! Good luck and let us know how things are going!

I just had another thought...you mentioned you were remodeling. Could be you have a resident ghostie who may not like your changing the room around!

I have something odd to tell you all about this house.Twenty-one years ago before we moved in my Dad remodeled the whole house in one room on the ceiling there was the purfect shadow of a shelty dog.My Dad textured the ceiling thinking that would cover it.The next day it was back.He put sealer on it.The next day it was back.He painted it and said if it comes back again I don't know what I'll do.Sure enough it was back the next day.Dad took a crowbar and knocked that part of the ceiling down.So far so good.It hasn't came back. Why it was there is beyond me.My Dad is the type of person who will tell the foot steps fallowing you down the stairs is the house settliing. He was visiably shaken over this. That is pretty weird, Bonnie! Do you know anything about the previous history of the house, who owned it, when was it built, etc... It would be interesting to know if they ever had that type of dog!

The house was built in the late 1800's and at one time it was a mutiple family home.I don't know if before us it was ever a single family home. Bonnie

Hmm I had a feeling there might be some history hidden in those walls! Wow built in the 1800s eh? That is pretty exciting. If it were me, I would get to my local library or other resources to see if I could dig up some specifics on previous owners. This might give you some insight into what has been going on. You didn't mention anything, but I was wondering if you ever get any strange, sick or cold feelings in that particular room?

With that much history in your house, I would also try and get some EVPs. Remember, if you do, keep the tape recorder away from any noise sources like windows, ask specific questions and give time for them to answer and when you replay the tape, turn the volume way up because their voices are usually extremely hard to hear.

Good luck in whatever you choose to do and be sure to keep us posted too [Wink]

Has the heater just an electric coil in a metal case, with no fan? Sometimes electricity can have a vibration of it's own, and you may have a hard time detecting it. The vibration is caused by the electricity itself.... IF the knob is very easy to turn... something you could turn very easily with one finger by just touching it. ('AC', or 'alternating current', as household electricity is called, actually changes it's direction in the wires 60 times per second, and it might be able to move the setting via the vibration this causes.). However, if the knob is stiff enough to turn that you have to take hold of it and grip it to turn it, I would guess that it isn't the vibration of the electricity that is changing the setting, but more likely a little ghostie. [Smile]

The picture is really the thing that leads me to believe that it might be a ghost, because the heater probably isn't touching the wall, and causing vibration enough to move a picture on another wall away from the heater would be next to impossible. That is my thought, anyway.

The story about the sheltie is very intriguing!!
I'll bet it was something meaningful in some way. It is amazing that even with sealer and paint, it kept coming back. Your dad must have been ready to pull his hair out!! LOL [Smile]

The house was a rental and even with going through records it would be almost impossible to find out who lived here.I do know the room that I have been working in was added on,but when I don't know.Over the years we have heard banging sounds smelled purfume and seen people that wasn't there. One thing I didn't tell you all before is that Frank's Grandfather passed away in that room. There is something else I forgot to tell you all the house use to have thirteen rooms. We tore down three rooms because it would have cost too much to fix them.I don't know if that has anything to do with anything but I thought it was wirth telling you about. Bonnie

Just a thought. You might try telling your "ghost" to stop messing with the heater. Be firm but polite. Say "Please don't change the setting on the heater." I would be concerned for safety reason about that. The pictures won't hurt anything. But the heater can.

Sounds like you do have some ghosties there. But like what's been said here a million times, search for the normal before you come to the conclusion that it's paranormal. Just check out the possibilities like you have been doing.
One of the best ways to know for sure is just feel for them.
It seems that the most common ghosties aren't a problem at all. They make some noises. Knocks. Mess with things. But for the most part the scariest part of them is in our own head. The last place I lived had lots of them coming and going.
I wouldn't worry about them. Only if they start making trouble. Like Pandora said, ask them to stop messing with the heater.
All the ghosts I've met were people. And for the most part act just like people. Some are nice, some are mean, some are fickle. If I didn't like what one was doing I'd tell it to stop. Sometimes it took more that once. Sometimes it just meant ignoring them enough times till they got bored or fed up. Like what was already said, it might just being trying to get your attention and get you to recognize they are there.

Well the only question now is when do you get photo's of your ghost(s).... [Tease] [Shock]

Check out every other explaination.

I read a ghost story-- the lid kept popping off a container store on top of a refrig- usually about the same time of day- (or should I same air temp) As the air got warmer the air in the container get just a bit warmer and this caused the lid to pop off ( which caused the container toalso land in different places in the kitchen-just like a ghost...

About the shadow there is this stuff called X out, water stains have been known to re-appear but not usually know to wear perfume! [Big Grin]

Hi! I know abit about electronics as that's what I do for a living.
Is your heater new or fairly old?
The dial used for regulating heat are variable resistors that are connected to thermisters.
A thermister is a resister that basically reacts to the heat.
The resistance changes according to the heat applied(that is how it regulates).
If this thermistor is packing up on you, it makes alot of sense that the heat will increase.
Also, the dial or the knob itself is a veriable resistor witch means that if it is also eroded or rusted, it will act funny.
Take the dial off if you can and inspect it.
The resistor part is the metal ring behind it.
About the picture?
I think you might indeed have a ghost there.
