I live next to a wooded area...there are no houses around in this area besides the neighborhood I live in...but for the past couple of weeks the neighbors and my family have seen strange white lights just appear in the sky over the wooded area...they are there for a while then they just disappear...they seem to appear in the late night early morning hours...what could it possibly be...a ufo?

i feel that its pretty pretentious to assume that there is no other telligent life (or just life for that matter) in the whole of the ever expanding universe (or is it contracting now?)
i think it could be possible that its a ufo, because there has been so much evidence of other life out there. its the same with ghosts, not everyone who sees ufo's are texan pigfarmers or jerry springer guests

I'm giggling right now, Zippyduck. My FIL saw a UFO while in his field, he is a farmer (no pigs tho), but he also has a master's degree in biology. [Laughing] Seriously, the media loves to get the whack jobs on to interview about this stuff. Rarely do you see what you would really call a reliable witness being interviewed, and I guarantee there are plenty of them.
I have heard of several places in Florida that were hotbeds of some really intriguing UFO sightings, so it is entirely possible those lights are being caused by something not of this world.
The other option is something the government is testing out. I lived near an airforce base at one time, and we saw the Stealth bomber long before the rest of the public knew about it. It could be they are testing out some new technology. I posted about a similar experience about a week ago, and that is what I'm leaning toward as far as what happened to us.
Either way, seeing something like this is a real experience! [Wink]

[Smile] LOL Zippy. Depending who is talking the universe is either expanding or contracting. Both have evidence.
I saw a show recently that stated that there are billions of galaxies out there. Just to make sure it's understood, a galaxy is a massive collection of stars. Ours, the Milky Way, has over 250 million. And it's a relatively small one. So times that number by a billion and that's how many stars we know of are out there. That we can see.
We can't be the only rock that has life on it.

Strawberrie, like Carrie is saying there could be different explanations for what is happening. Ball lightening for one. Methane gas. Ghosts. UFOs. I personally believe in all of the above. In different places and different times. Not every strange light is a UFO and not every strange light is a gas ball either, or ghost, or lightening.
I've seen my share of strange lights and objects in the sky. I KNOW UFOs are real. Whether they are from another planet, I don't know.

Keep an eye out. If you get brave try checking them out from another place. Get a different perspective. Try looking at them through telescopic equipment, lightly shaded sunglasses, even looking at them upsidedown. Just looking at things at an angle allow you to see things you can't see by looking straight ahead. Try closing your eyes and see if you can sense them, see them with your third eye, maybe communicate with them, or read them. Try any number of experiments to see if you can find something else out about them.

Good luck.

I like all the theories...but the nearsest air force base is 2 hours away...so I may be able to rule that out...who knows...you all have great ideas...Thanx!

Is that two hours driving time? That's not long at all if you're flying a jet. I was just looking at a map and it looks like you could be close to being on a flight route between Pensacola and Hurlburt Field. Am I looking at it wrong?

Here's a site that tells you about Hurlburt Field - what operations they've been involved in (including Desert Storm), the war games they hold every year, and the weather station (weather baloons [Wink] ); however, I still wouldn't rule out aliens - If I were an alien, I'd certainly keep my eye on this base.

Aircraft lights do strange visual tricks. I live near Westover AFRB and work right next to Bradley International Airport. I like to keep an eye on the sky from time to time and I've seen strange lights that prove out to be aircraft lights. You can see aircraft lights from very far away.
It's when they do things that our known aircraft can't do that makes me concerned.
I saw once what looked just like an aircraft light high in the sky. So I more or less wrote it off. But then it made a sudden quick climb, a hard right (my left) turn and streaked off at a phenominal speed. It may have been ball lightening but it was very high up there and no aircraft that I know can climb that sharp, turn that sharp and then suddenly blaze off at a speed that I can't even guess at.
It was a UFO. I can't explain it. It moved like nothing I know of. But what it was I can't say either. [Smile]
