Hey Kathleen,

Since you're in British Columbia, I was wondering if you have any good Ogopogo info/stories! I was watching a show last night that talked about Ogopogo and it showed some of the pics and video clips that people have captured - they're quite convincing! Better than anything I've seen for Nessie! Have you ever been to Lake Okanagan to see for yourself? [Cool]

Well, as it happens, Kathleen hasn't been to Lake Okanagan, but she did come up with a couple sites and said she'd be looking into it some more! [Wink]

Wow I didn't know about this...I just thought there was the one 'monster'. That's pretty cool.
As for the name...reminds of cavemen talking to each other! So cool. Thanks for teaching me something new [Smile]

Thanks for the links Kell,
I knew about the octopus and the squids. I always figured that to be fact, since it's a vast ocean and sightings have gone back a while, including recent ones and some even caught on tape.

As for more 'nessie' type creatures, that was the new bit for me!

Looks like there are different types of water seerpents. Closer to home for me is the famous "Caddy" which has been sighted in the waters off Vancouver Island. From what I have read so far about the lake, land locked type, there are several lakes across Canada that have reports of sightings! Yikes, it is indoor water skiing for me! Ha ha ha. More to come on this later.

This is additional information gathered by Kathleen. Thank you, Kathleen!! [Smile]
=======================

I spent a couple of hours in the library looking for and at books that might offer more information than what is already posted on websites. I found the same information repeated over and again. It seems that there have been many Lake Monster sightings all over North America. Ogopogo was a name given to the creature in Okanagan, First Nations people called it Nha-a-tik, N'haw-hetq, or Naitaka, meaning lake monster or demon.

I did find a picture of a pictograph in one book that someone has posted on a site.

The pictograph was purportedly drawn with ochre on a rock near Okanagan Lake. The image was too faded to be successfully photographed and was drawn. I believe you can see the same picture on page 225 of Roy P. Mackal's Searching for Hidden Animals.
Here are a few more sites of interest.

[Enthusiatic Grin] Granted this is an old topic, but I just ran across it tonight. I spent some time in Kelowna, BC years ago while on business. BTW, Kelowna is a pretty little city, and the folks there take their sea monster very seriously!

Unfortunately, I did not get to see the monster myself. I spent several hours watching the lake, however :-) Finally the last day I was there I met a fisherman who swore he saw it while out fishing with his cousin. I will tell you, it made a believer out of me!
