Phantom Retreat,
I have been reading a book called "Battlefield Ghosts" by Keith Toney, a licensed guide of Gettysburg. It is a very interesting book with stories not only pertaining to Gettysburg, but stories of battle fields from Revolutionary to WWII. In this book he tells of his wife's account with witnessing the "Phantom Retreat" of the Confederates from Gettysburg, on a July 5th night. He says several others have witnessed this, but it does not replay to the same person twice. His wife says she could hear the moans and groans of the wounded as they were carried from town in wagons. Then she saw them and watched them for 3 or 4 minutes before they disappeared. But the sounds kept on for sometime then just abruptly stopped. Just wondering if anyone has seen or heard of this?

Hi Alan,
I have heard of this story before, but its not as commen of an occurance as to other occurances. The phantom soldiers are seen much more often. I have seen a ghost on the covered bridge called Sach's bridge. There are too many stories to post. I do believe the story though. I too have read that book and many others about Gettysburg.
