Hello. I have always heard about Ghosts. And not really sure if I have ever had an encounter (although strange unexplained things have happened). I believe in God and that our spirit goes to heaven when we die. Are Ghosts just restless spirits? I find it fascinating. I found this site by accident, when I was looking for a couple of ancestors that I found out, where Ghosts.

Hi Miss Lavendar,

I read your other post about your relatives having a ghost tale connected to them - that is pretty cool! [Wink] We'd love to hear more about it!

The word 'ghost' is a generic term used to describe a dicarnate being/soul that lives in an invisible realm (i.e. they're here, but we can't always see or interract with them). It is thought that some souls do not cross over to the other side immediately and remain earthbound for various reasons.

I hope that helps!

I am not sure what ghosts are. I am told they are people without bodies. Same attitude as in life. I know there are quite a few who either live in my house or are just passing through. I'm just glad to know that life goes on after we die.

I always believed in life after death, after having 3 experiences. Actually, I am not sure what the right word is, episodes? Maybe? I always try to be logical in an illogical world. But, sometimes happen that just can't be explained. My mother died when I was born and I was adopted when I was 2 weeks old. My parents told me when I was 7. I had a dream about my birth mother. Words were not exchanged, but I saw her. She was dressed in white and standing on the clouds (kinda like in the movies when they use dry ice). Later, I saw a photo of her that her sister had kept for me and it was her! My mother I saw in the dream. I am not sure what it meant, except to tell me that my mother was alright. I had a son who was killed by a drunk driver when he was 6. About 3 or 4 months afterwards, my older son was outside playing and I heard my younger sons voice, just as plain as if he were sitting right there, next to me. He said "Mama". That was all. Of course, I had to search the house. About 4 years after that, I heard my adopted Dad's voice call my name. Then, nothing more. Is that a "ghost thing", too? I mean, just hear them and then they are gone? I didn't see either my dad or my son.

Miss Lavender, I'm so sorry for the loss of your son, such a terrible tragedy. I do believe that you and your older son have had encounters with your loved ones. It is not necessary to actually see them. I agree with Kell that the term 'ghost' is a catch all term. Just because you and your son has heard the voices of loved ones does not mean that they are earth bound and unable to move on, they probably enjoy visiting you and watching over you, sometimes you may know that they are there and sometimes not. I think it's wonderfull that your family members on the 'other side' have let you know that you are still important to them.

Ghosts are restless spirits, I totally believe when u die, u go to heaven. But after watching a few shows on the discovery chanel, most, or even all ghosts are there because they never accomplished they're biggest goal in life. Fer example, theres this place in San Fransisco that was used in WW11 (sumamrines and stuff like that) and many of the staff have encountered ghosts. One raced down the hall, and a week later, did the same with the manager behind him. Obviosly they're just doing their job. Same in this dam up in Colorado, where ghosts even fix things, put things where they won't fall. And haunted houses are haunted by ghosts that probebly were killed in there or died some awful way.

I don't think theres any He** down there, I believe in heaven of coarse, and people who believe they need to fix a few things down on earth are ghosts. Ghosts and heaven. [Nanner Man]

I have a suspicion that Disney may not be so far off the mark about hitchhiking ghosts (Haunted Mansion attraction). No one has ever died in our house, it didn't have any ghosts when we moved in (believe me, I know), and after 13 years of living here we have had haunting activity in the past year or so. It has only been in the last few months that family members have admitted to each other about seeing anything. Funny, since we all go looking for ghosts. Anyway, we have all seen a shadow moving in the same general area in the past year or two, time flies when you are older. The shadow isn't coming from outside either. I investigate it each time I see it, it is definately human shaped. I think we brought it home with something as a hitchhiker!

Thank you for your answers. So many people believe so many things. But, yes I believe that ghosts are spirits that were once living. Maybe they have unfinished business (like looking for a ring or a daughter) that keeps them grounded. Has anyone had experiences with Poltergiests? Can they actually harm a living person or can they just scare a person to death? Or, instead of death and injury, just want the person to leave.

How interesting to think about hitchhiking ghosts. I always thought a ghost stayed where they were and didn't travel. But I guess it is possible. Maybe these types of ghosts are trying to get home and isn't sure where "home" is. Maybe they didn't stop to ask directions! [Wink]
