Last week, we moved my mother into our home and gave her the guest bedroom which over the past few years has been an active spot in our house for the paranormal. I was wondering if Mom would have any odd experiences, and sure enough she has.
This morning, I went in to check on her, and she asked, "Did you come in here last night and talk to me?" I told her no, we had been in the other end of the house all night.
According to Mom, last night, she woke up and saw a form that she thought was me sitting on the edge of the bed. The woman said, "I want a lace scarf on the fire place mantel, but I don't know what color I want it to be." Thinking that it was me, talking about the house we are moving into, Mom said that she told "me", "How about ecru?" To which "I" replied, "no, I like darker colors better."
She said she said some other things, just making small talk and reached over to pat "my" leg and tell me to go to bed. That was when she realized that no one was there. [Shock]
She has also reported a strong smell of whiskey, which we don't have, near the doorway, along with pot roast on another occasion. I woke up last night smelling this also.
I'm thinking we might be having an increase in activity because of me packing up to move. Maybe I have the ghost of an interior decorator? [Razz]

Oh my gosh, Carrie! [Shock] What does mom think of what happened? Did she say that it sounded like you or just female and she assumed it was you?

Does the house you're in now have a fireplace mantle? If so, before you move, maybe you should leave a scarf on on it. Maybe burgandy or a hunter green. [Wink]

Ok... now, have you ever thought about these things? (putting a dark colored scarf on the mantle) Did it ever cross your mind prior to this event?

Hey Kell! Mom has had quite a few weird experiences in the houses we have lived in, so I think she just took it in stride. She was pretty surprised to find that it wasn't me, the voice and form were definitely female. She thought at first she was wide awake, but wonders now if it wasn't some sort of weird dream.
It is funny you mention the idea of me wanting the scarf -- I had not said anything to anyone about it. However, a few weeks ago, I had gotten some brochures from a company that manufactures lace curtains, table cloths and mantle scarves. I had left the brochures on the dresser to show Mom, thinking of the house we are moving to. I remember looking at the scarves and thinking -- I had meant to get one for this house and never did it. Unfortunatly, they don't come in burgundy or hunter green.
Maybe someone was giving me a hint?! [Laughing]
I don't know if Mom's experience was ghostly, or some type of weird telepathic thing, but I may leave a burgundy scarf on the mantle, just in case.

I definitely would put a scarf on the mantle.

Maybe it was you Carrie.
It's possible you astral projected and went to your mother and talked about some things in your subconscious.
Your mother coming to live with you could have triggered it or maybe you just do it sometimes anyway.

That is what I was thinking... that perhaps she picked up on your thoughts, or even as Nakis said, maybe you astral projected!

I'd leave a little something on the mantle for good measure though. [Wink]

That is an interesting theory, and one I had not thought of. I don't recall anything unusual that night myself, but it certainly was an odd coincidence!

I think I know what it feels like. It's unnerving! [Shock]
When I was living at home after my moms pet poodle died, for about a year or so, I would feel something jump and lay on my bed! [Shock]
It felt like the weight of the dog.
Sometimes it would jump up and rest against my leg or hip and wake me up.
Once upon waking I petted it! [Eek!]
I must have been dreaming.
I agree with Kell.

Carrie, this is really something!!! There is one thing that makes me think that it may have been a spirit, rather than an astral projection... and that would be the presence of the odors. Could it be that the spirit knows about the thoughts you had about a scarf, and was hoping for a darker colored one?? Just my thoughts... but, this one really makes you wonder!! Since whiskey isn't even something you keep in the house, that is kind of hard to explain. Do you cook pot roasts very much? I believe that it was Pandora (?) whose house ghost seemed to bring the fragrance of a pot roast cooking into their house sometimes, and her husband would notice it. Maybe female ghosts from the middle of the 1900's would be kind of hooked on pot roasts, since they were a very popular meal in that time frame???

Very interesting!! [Smile]

Mare, the odors have me thrown also! The only thing I can think of regarding the whiskey, is that I have a very old (mid 1700's) jug from England that has an inn's name engraved on it which I'm sure was used to hold whiskey or some type of alcohol. Maybe I've got something attached to it? I had packed it that day, and I wonder if someone might have been looking for it?
The pot roast smell was a new one for me -- I have probably made pot roast once in the four years we've been married, and I had not cooked at all that day, so I don't think it was any other "real" cooking odor. I have experienced what smelled like bacon cooking here before, and at a previous home we often awoke to the smell of bread baking! After this, I'm being a little more aware of smells, sounds and such!

You're giving me chills! [Shock]
I just remembered.
After my grandmother's sister died, until we moved to Canada, I frequently smelled her perfume at our house. [Shock]
I had totally forgotten this!
Thanks for reminding me Carrie! [Toothy Grin]
Maybe it IS the jug you put away! [Eek!]

Marcelo, I've had the perfume smells also. Both my grandmother and an elderly great-aunt wore White Shoulders (a real favorite amongst little old ladies! [Laughing] ). It has a rather distinct scent, and I catch a whiff of it ever once in awhile although they've both been gone for years!

What an experience! My first thought was astral projection also. Maybe a mixture of both?

Marcelo, I'm not sure they even make White Shoulders anymore. I think it was one of those fragrances that was a big deal with previous generations, and kinda lost its appeal in recent years. You might try finding it at a drug store chain like Eckerds or Walgreens.
Vickie, I'm wondering about that too. She has also said that a few nights ago, she could hear men talking, and saw some shadows moving around. I have a feeling packing for the move might have made the activity perk up.

Yeah Carrie, I was wondering that too. It does sound like packing to move was the instigating circumstance.

White Shoulders is still around - you can find it at J C Penney. I know my grandmother when I smell Avon's hand cream (blue tube). She used to use that all the time.
