Forums · Is The Mothman Real Or Something People Just Made Up??

For all of you out there who have seen the Mothman Prophecies at the very beginning it says based on true and natural events happening in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. Well, yesterday I was watching Discovery Planet and they had a special on the "Mothman." It is said to be a creature 6-8 feet tall, walks like a man, has arms and legs like a man, solid balck, wings much like a bird or a moth, and has hypnotizing red eyes. It is said not to harm you, but to warn you by chasing you or screeching much like an owl would. It is also said to leave mysterious marks where it has been. Several people stated they have seen it directly before a disaster hits...Sightings have been all around the world including some here in the area of Florida where I live! Pretty creepy if you ask me! I don't know if it is something real or just a myth someone started...In a way I believe and in a way I don't...I guess I will just have to wait and see if I ever encounter the "Mothman"

I tend to believe that there is something to the mothman legend. It has been seen thoughout the world before several major disaters(sp?). What makes it more credible to me is that he is not just a recent thing. He was even seen around in the crimean war. Here's a link that gives some details on his world wide sightings.

Thanx for the link...It was very informative!

I think there were supposed to have been some pretty credible reports about this creature. We had a thread about this a while back and someone compared it to the Native legends of the "Thunderbird".
I don't think I'd want to meet up with this critter in the dark, but it makes for some fascinating stories!

Like I said there have been sighting right here in the area where I am...but I don't know what I would do if I ever seen this thing! I would prolly have a stroke or something! LOL!

Being not to far from Point Pleasent myself (bout an hour) I have heard stories of the MothMan since I was a little kid. I do believe there is truth to the story. I do however have a note to add, the movie The MothMan Prophecies took a lot of creative license. If you'd like the real story (or at least the closest to what I've heard my whole life) read the book The MothMan Prophecies by John Keel. It's the book the movie was loosely based upon. Good read a bit farfetched at times but still a good read. Another little sidenote, the tv reporter you see on the tv in the resturant in the movie is an actual reporter, she can be seen on Channel 13 news at 11 hehe. [Wink]

The collapse of the Silver Bridge was a real event. The Discovery Channel (I think it was them) did a program on it not long ago.

Thanks for the links Danzig.

The dungeon part of the first link triggered the security programming on my companies server. ACCESS DENIED.

I don't think that the Mothman is outside the realm of possibility. And since there have been so many sitings especially over time and in different geographical locations lends credence to the legend/mystery.
I definitely think there is something to the whole Mothman issue.
