I lived in my Grandfathers house for most of my teen years. It was a very big house and there are tons of stories of it being haunted. Some I experienced myself. One of the strange things that would happen would be that it started to smell like sulphur, roses, or candle (when you blow it out). I am Southamerican and there is a lot of superstition in my country. So according to everybody there. The roses were the Virgin Mary, and the Sulphur was the Devil. The candle smell was a spirit. What do you think? I do have to point out that there was no way it could have smelled like roses, sulphur or candle because there was nothing burning or any perfumes around and it smelled for a little while and went away.
If I can I will try to post a picture of this house so you can see. [Tease]

Spirit activity has been known to bring about unusual odors that are the scent of things that aren't even anywhere in the house or building. Even the smells of foods, when no one is cooking, and smells of fragrances that no one wears... What other activities have you noticed?

One day after I had cooked bacon for supper, me and my kids went to the basement and in the big room, not the laundry room, you could smell fresh baked cookies. They smelled sooooooo good. But I have no idea where the smell came from.

A.W., I have had unexplained smells like these in several houses I lived in. In the most active home, I smelled everything from a sulphur/rotten eggs smell to a distinct smell of roses. I've also caught a strong scent of roses in a few cemetaries I've visited when no live or cut flowers were around. As for the scents signifying anything, I haven't a clue. We've also had unexplained food odors in our home -- everything from that infamous pot roast to fresh baked bread!

I just don't understand why these smells generate out of nowhere and how it happens. I personally think it does have to do with good/bad energy depending on the smell but who really knows???

It is my belief that these smells just signify spirit presence and not necessarily the nature of the spirit. I believe some associate good smells with good spirits and bad smells with bad spirits simply because of the connotation of the words 'good' and 'bad'. Does that make sense? =P

I agree with Kell.
Not all spirits convey smells (or at least we don't smell them at the time). Not all negative/bad spirits convey bad smells. The same for good ones.
I believe part of my 'psychic' abilities lie in my sense of smell. In my experience I think at least some spirits effect our world in inducing smells. And on average the nasty smells will be from ghosties with nasty attitudes and dispositions and the good smells on average will be from nice ghosties.
Though I also think that part of it depends on their emotional state at the time. Whether they are liking or disliking what is happening at the time, who is around, in just a bad mood, or a good mood.
I believe that ghosties carry an emotional, spiritual and mental body around. So they act on emotions and think. So they tend to react like live people.
