I'm an eighth generation Texan -- several sides of my family were here before Texas became a state. I live in a small community outiside of Houston, but we are planning a move back to the rural area my husband was raised in, about 100 miles from Houston, near the Alabama-Coushatta reservation. I could very easily brag a lot about Texas, as you know, most Texans do!
The book sounds fascinating, and a little coincidental; my mother's side of the family is from Louisiana, and lived in New Orleans. I've always felt drawn to the city. I would love to know if their home is still standing. Anyway, genealogy research turned up a few Voodoo practicioners and some other surprises on the old family tree. Sometimes fact is stranger than fiction!
On another coincidence, I was just telling my husband tonight, that when we moved I wanted to get a cat.
