Kell-

My novel is about a voodoo slave woman named Addie, and the house near New Orleans that she haunts.
The novel gives a glimpse of Addie, her capture and sale as a slave in 1837, how she escapes, and how she is killed. She places a death curse on her killers which continues to this day.
My protagnist is a young man from California who suddenly learns he is adopted. His maternal grandmother leaves him her estate in Louisiana and he travels back to the south to meet with her lawyer. Once in the small town where he was born, strange things begin to happen. He realizes very quickly that they are all tied to the house, and a ghost known as Mad Voodoo Addie.
I still have half a book to write, but so far I am pleased with it so far.

Thank you for asking! and thanks to everyone else who offered me virtual Good Luck hugs :-)

Ummm-

I apologize for the bad structure in the last post =( Apparently, I have been writing too much lately :-)

I should have said, "I still have half a book to write, but so far I am pleased with it."

I have been trying to go back and correct and revise already written chapters as I go along, but it makes the journey to Bagdhad even longer.

Maybe I should just sit in a corner and suck my thumb?

Carrie -
Many thanks for the warm Texas welcome! To be honest, when we moved here in July 2002,I was very unhappy about the move. You see, I lost my best friend Barbara here, she died of cancer years ago. My husband's company moved him so I had no choice. The last thing I remember about the Dallas/Fort Worth area was her dying here. It was very difficult moving here, and I admit I did not want to leave my freinds and family in California.

I have since become more open about this area. After having lived in California for over 20 years, coming to a place that had no mountains, no ocean, was hard to deal with. I am slowly beginning to see the beauty that is Texas.

What area of Texas are you living in? Are you a Texas native? Do you like cats? hehe My husband and I came here with 5 cats, which we shipped and paid for, and added 2 orphan calico females soon after we bought our home.

We are cat folks. We like dogs just fine, our neighbors have them. While I am cleaning litter pans, they are walking their dogs with little baggies :-) I don't like the baggie idea, besides if a cat loves you, you are really loved.

Anyway, I am interested in yacking with you here or anyone in this forum who lives in Texas.

Please feel free to encourage me to love your state even more!

I'm an eighth generation Texan -- several sides of my family were here before Texas became a state. I live in a small community outiside of Houston, but we are planning a move back to the rural area my husband was raised in, about 100 miles from Houston, near the Alabama-Coushatta reservation. I could very easily brag a lot about Texas, as you know, most Texans do!

The book sounds fascinating, and a little coincidental; my mother's side of the family is from Louisiana, and lived in New Orleans. I've always felt drawn to the city. I would love to know if their home is still standing. Anyway, genealogy research turned up a few Voodoo practicioners and some other surprises on the old family tree. Sometimes fact is stranger than fiction! [Laughing]
On another coincidence, I was just telling my husband tonight, that when we moved I wanted to get a cat.
Welcome again to SpiritKeep, WingsOnite! I look forward to reading your posts! =)

Wow, Carrie!

Eight generations?! You really ARE a Texan. I understand there are some haunted places in and near Houston? I live in a small town called Weatherford, and I have been unsuccessful so far in finding anything haunted here, aside from the town hall building. We do have a lot of longhorns here though :-)
Oh, get a cat! Your life will never be the same, trust me :-)

Carrie -

Forgot to tell you one other thing in my last post. We lived in Louisiana for a year (1997-1998) and it really is a haunted place. Very eiree, with the swamps and the alligators as road kill ... Spooky place to live. We lived in a town about 25 miles northeast of New Orleans, which is the setting for my novel.

Houston does have its fair share of haunted locations, but my favorite haunted Texas city is San Antonio! Ft. Worth and Dallas have some great haunted locations too.
There are places in Louisiana that are truly amazing and very eerie -- it is like stepping back in time. =)

I quite agree, Carrie. Louisiana is like stepping back in time, and that is what I try to accomplish in my first book. This story could not have taken place anywhere else. Addie comes out of the pages as a reminder of the past and it's horrors. There are cats in my book too, LOL!

If I get this book published, all my friends here will receive signed copies. I promise =)

Anyway you mentioned haunted San Antonio. I saw stuff on the internet about San Antonio. I am very interested in persuing that. On an aside, I just began an email exchange with Tamara Thorne. I just up and wrote her, because we had a lot in common. She answered my email (I was amazed) and we will probably continue to communicate. She says that she has visited some haunted places in Central California (where I moved from) and she has seen orbs. I am very interested in doing some ghost visits as well. I thought starting close to my home base would be good. Tamara says she visited a mission in Lompoc California that I have also visited. It is called La Purisima, and is known for its orbs. She took some orb pictures there. When I was there it was during work hours, so I had no camera. I saw no orbs.

So bottom line is, I want to visit some haunted places. Tamara obviously feels that those experiences added to her fiction. I tend to agree. If you can recommend some places, I would appreciate it.

By the way,Tamara has as many cats as I do! hehe If we have nothing else in common, we do have the cats!

Wings

P.S. I told Tamara that my published name was going to be Sybil Simon. She loved it because she owns a cat named Sybil, and one named Simon. LOL

Aww, that's sweet Wings - thank you!

Mare and I know Tamara too - she's a scream! Just love her! That's cool about your cats' names. =)

I hope we can find some haunted places for you to visit! I think Carrie posted some in San Antonio for you. Do you need to know of any others in other states? If so, just post it in the Ghosts forum and we can check it out for you. [Wink]
