This happened to one of our most loyal re-enactors here at the battlefield. I didn't hear this story from him but second hand. I do believe that this happen, many of the other reenactors have told this story to the museum staff over the years indepently of each other. Well here goes.
It was my first battle reenactment and as the newest member of the staff, I got the great honor of being stuck at the gate to sign in all the reenactors as they enter the park. I had to walk up to the cars and ask wheter they were Native American or British. Its sometime hard to tell since alot of white guys protray Native American. But with this reenactor, I knew that he was defintely a Native American. He had the features of one. And it turned out that he had a lot of Native blood. This guy was very superstitious. Our event is a two day battle reenactment so most of the guys will show up on Friday, set up their tents or shelter, according to wheter they are British or Native American. They camp out until Sunday morning and break up camp after the public has left for the weekend. Just some background info for you guys!
This reenactor, I will call George, not his real name of course. Did set up on Friday and stayed over until Sunday. Friday night passed without any problems but Saturday night was different. George was woken up in the middle of the night to someone pulling on his leg. IT was a spirit that had come up from the ground and was trying to pull him into the ground with him. George struggled to get away from him. He managed to do so. George was so shaken that he couldn't stay the rest of the night in his shelter. In the morning as the other reenactors were getting up they saw George up and ready to leave. That Sunday we had a huge downpour and had to cancell the days events because of it. So it was strange to see George out in the pouring rain when he could be nice and dry in his shelter. He told them about his experience and told them he would not be back next year because he believed that the experience was telling him that something would happen to his family if he did come back. That was about three years ago, he didn't come back for the last two reenactments. So he was good to his word about nor coming back. Has anybody else ever have an experience with a spirit trying anything like this?

Sorry about the length. I thought the background needed to be explained before I told the story!

Re-enactors love ghost stories! My hubby was a Confederate re-enactor for many years, and we have friends who still actively participate. Almost all of those guys have a good ghost story to share!
After reading about George's story, it reminded me of sleep paralysis -- I think there are some posts regarding this in the psychic section. Of course, it may have well been some sort of bizarre spirit contact, maybe with one who wasn't too happy about being disturbed? George, being of Native descent, and from what you said, a little inclined toward this type of thing, may have just been the best candidate for the spirit to act out on.

Somehow I missed this one, blackadder! What a story! How frightening. That would have been enough to make me leave too! [Eek!]

I remember someone on the board a long time ago (Birdsister - who is also Native American) said they had a similar experience(s), but the spirit was trying to pull her out the window after she'd fall asleep. I don't know if it was sleep paralysis related or not, but it happened more than once to her.

Thanks for the replies guys! I was told this by so many different people that I knew it had to have happened even though it sounds incredable. I glad to hear that this has happened to other people. Not happy that they experienced this but that the experience has been relayed to others.

A very interesting story. I do a lot of research into hauntings related to the war of 1812. Please tell me if this was an 1812 re-enactment, Revolutionary war, or French-Indian war? Would it be possible to give me the location of the re-enactment site? I'd love to take my group there, see if we get anything interesting.
