The 300 Year-old Church in Sleepy Hollow

I lived in Ossining, a town ten minutes from Sleepy Hollow. And every Christmas Eve we used to go to the 300 year-old church in Sleepy Hollow. The church session would last for about an hour. I was about ten when it was the end of the service when my family was talking to the preacher and rest of the church. And I was very cold and I had left my coat in the car. So I asked my dad for the car keys and started walking down the small hill to the car when I heard the wind rustling through the leaves which scared me. So I turned around to go back when I heard a very vivid sound. It started to get closer and clearer, and I realized it was the sound of a horse snoring and panting, coming from the direction of the graveyard. This scared me so much that I just started running back to the church. A huge gust of wind so strong it nearly knocked me over gushed past me. So, I started running faster when I started to hear dubious laughter growing fainter and fainter in the opposite direction. I ran the small but long seeming distance back to the church in hysterics. I asked my family if they had heard the noises that would haunt me for years, and they said no and that it was just the leaves rustling. This still haunts me and remains a mystery to me.

Well, having never been to New York, I'd have to say no. [Wink] I've always considered the headless horseman a legend. It's a book written by Washington Irving (The Legend of Sleepy Hollow[/URL], 1819)
