Kinda a scary movie, its full of cliches: A group goes into a haunted house to investigate the pyschic happenings, and everyone is warned to stay together and not go off on their own, of course they all do their own thing and ignore the rule.

The thing that makes this movie interesting is the investigators all have some pyschic ability in which to detect the spirits along with all the equiptment of the ghost hunter.

The lady that supposedly had the gift to do Automatic writing was spot on with the technique, King obviously did some research, as the scribbling at the begining and the moving into the writings was true to form.

Its creepy but not great, but worth the watch.

I"m pretty sure you can buy the mini series at amazon or something like that. I remember my Mom talking about buying it because she missed it too. It was pretty good. They are doing a new one tha tells the story of how Rose Red became Rose Red. It's the movie version of the Diary of Ellen Rimbaucher. I read that and it was very intereting. Gotta love Stephen King. =)

I missed it too. ::pout:: But thanks for the heads up that it's a bit scary, I'll make sure I tape it and watch it during the day because I a big chicken. That's coll that they're making Diary of Ellen Rimbauer too. It was an interesting book. Steve King didn't write it though, it was a buddy of his.

I actually watched it on video, it was obviously made for tv.

I was surfing the net just yesterday and came across some information which I thought I would share:

In 1884 a lady by the name of Sarah Winchester, started to build a house, because a medium told her to build it so the spirits of those who was killed by the winchester gun, would not find her. If she built the house and kept building the spirits wouldnt find her. Sarah was the heiress to the family fortune. You can find out more at this link:

Shes a fascinating lady and with an equally fascinating story. I would not be surprised if King used this for his inspiration for Rose Red.

I think that I read on the Stephen King website that Rose Red was partially based on the Winchester House, at least that was where S.K. got the idea for Rose Red.

Your right Sarah Winchester and the house is very interesting. One of these days I want to go there, I've always been fascinated by it. It's one of California's biggest mysteries.

I lived in San Jose for about eight years, for awhile I lived in an apartment complex that was only 2 blocks from the Winchester House. Everytime a relative or friend came into town, they wanted to tour the mansion so I went through the Winchester House about 5 times! LOL It was an interesting tour, even the 5th time I saw it :-)

Red Rose reminded me a lot of the story line of Shirley Jackson's "The Haunting of Hill House." I enjoyed it a lot though! I bought the DVD at amazon.com if anyone is interested, but I think it was only available for a short time. If you find it is no longer available and you have a DVD player, I'd be happy to mail it to you to watch as long as you returned it when you were finished as I'd like to have it in my collection.

Rose Red was great......even as the mini-series. Although waiting to watch each segment was not fun (I'm the type.....I wanna know and know now!)

Walmart still carries it on DVD at the least, and if you like Stephen King, it's worthwhile to see.

I can't say I was unhappy with it.

My husband and I just rented Rose Red from Netflix. We haven't gotten to watch it yet. But I'm excited to be able to watch the whole thing at once. Doc, I'm the same way.....I don't like to wait for the next part [Big Grin]

Just in case you guys have never heard of Netflix...it's a video rental that you do through the mail. My husband and I pay $20.00 a month and are allowed to have 3 dvd's out at any one time. We can keep them as long as we want with NO late fees. When we're done with a movie, we just send it back (no postage necessary, is pre-paid) and they send us another movie, that we've picked out via the internet.

The web-site is www.netflix.com[/URL] just in case anyone is interested in checking it out. Although I have to say, I'm not sure what type of area they cover...they may not have gotten over to the west coast at this point. Worth a look though! [Wink]
