Hello everybody. I am new here and I am so happy to have found this site. Hopefully this will be somewhere I can share my experiences without people thinking I am crazy or making things up! I have plenty of experiences to share--I have experienced paranormal behavior all of my life, have always had some degree of a sixth sense which seems to be getting stronger lately and I tend to be able to see things others don't. But what I am wondering right now is if any of you have knowledge of animals and ghosts.

I have two dogs, both are wonderful! One of them is deaf, though. The past couple of nights he has woken up from a dead sleep and started barking at a chair in the corner of my room. The strange thing is that the other dog doesn't move and she is usually the first to jump at a noise and bark if she thinks anything has the gall to come near her house. I know the one who is barking is as deaf as a doornail so I know he isn't barking at anything he has heard. I do have a ghost that has been in the family for generations (another story I will share later) but I haven't seen him in a few years. I did have the feeling he wasn't around but something else was.

Does anyone else have experiences like this? Any ideas of what may be causing him to be awaken in the dead of the night? Any responses would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, and I look forward to learning more from all of you.

Hi Otis, and welcome to SpiritKeep! =)

Dogs and cats, and other animals, are sensitive to spirit activity. People who are deaf or blind develop extra keen perception in their other senses to compensate for the loss of one of the primary ways of interacting with the world around them. I think that it is probably no different in animals. Perhaps the dog had a 'feeling' that something was there, or was awakened by a spirit touching him, or disturbing him in some physical way. I know that this physical touch by spirits is possible, because I have experienced it on more than one occasion.

One of these 'touching' experiences was witnessed by my adult daughter. We were sitting side by side at our computers. She was looking over at me and we were talking. A ghost grabbed the lower back edge of my blouse and yanked it downward sharply. She saw my blouse move in an unusual way, a way that could not have been something I did. It was a cropped blouse tied in front under the bustline. The blouse flattened against my spine when it was pulled downward, also moving the shoulder areas of the blouse. My hands and arms were still at the time. We just looked at each other, wide-eyed, because we had also noticed a shadow ghost near my shoulder. I felt him there, and we both looked back when my blouse was yanked, and saw a dark shadowy entity behind and above my right shoulder. My daughter saw him too.

Our dog, who is a healthy 4 year old beagle, and has his sight and hearing, has had an encounter of some sort several times on our living room couch. He reacts so strangely, we are at a loss to explain what it might be, other than spirit activity that causes him to do this. He will be sleeping, or sometimes just sitting on the couch. He lets out a small yip, dashes off the couch with his tail between his legs, and runs to the front door and digs frantically at the tile floor, as if digging for something. We can't get him to stop. Or, he will sometimes go into the kitchen and into a pantry area, and dig frantically at the floor there. He is oblivious to any efforts by any of us to get him to stop. Afterward, he acts frightened of getting on the couch for quite a while, and then we can finally, after lots of coaxing, get him back up there to lay down. It is a leather couch that we bought new about 10 years ago, so it shouldn't have anything 'ghostly' connected to it from previous owners.

So, I do believe, Otis, that your deaf dog probably did have an encounter involving senses other than hearing. Some of the dark shadow entities have a peculiar odor, and maybe he picked that up, or perhaps the spirit just poked him, and he was able to see or sense where the entity was (near the chair), or where it had disappeared..... Has this happened more than once? If so, you might want to keep a loaded camera near your bedside, and take some pictures if it happens again. One of those disposable cameras would work quite well for this, as it wouldn't tie up another camera for this purpose. The disposable cameras seem to do quite well in spirit photography.

I am looking forward to hearing about your experiences with your ghost who has been around for some time. Several of us have 'resident ghosts' in our homes, too.

Hi Otis, Welcome to SpiritKeep. [Rainbow Smiley] Maybe your dog is seeing a ghost. I think that animals are much more aware of these things than most people. My cat wouldn't see a ghost if one bit him in the behind but sometimes I think that my dog senses a spirit.

Hi Otis, welcome to SpiritKeep! =)

I agree with the others - I think your deaf dog could be sensing something. [Wink] I look forward to hearing more about your ghost!

Welcome to SpiritKeep Otis =)

I've had similar experiences to yours as well. I believe like the others that animals are sensitive to spirits. I look forward to hearing more of your stories.

Make yourself at home and have a great time!

Just to toss the mundane option in here and I'm not saying that your dog didn't sense a ghost. He may have just smelled something. Maybe someone sat in that chair that isn't normal to the house and durying his sleep he caught sent of it and starting barking at an 'intruder'.
Maybe. [Sigh]

Hi All! I had a deaf dog and he would stand and bark at the air.He was also almost blind.I know he senced something.I have heard the ghosties in my house alot. When Teddy would bark I would go downstairs and tell them{ghosties} to leave him alone that he was very old and they shouldn't be bothering him that it wasn't fair. That usually took care of it, he would quite down after that. Hi Otis! That would freak me out!!!! I'd have to throw something over the chair so that I couldn't see it hehe. I have 4 dogs (dalmatians to be exact, one of which, is deaf) and every once in awhile we'll catch one of em staring or reacting to something that we can't see.

Every night when we go to bed, usually all of the dogs come in the room with us, and sleep around the bed on the floor. Well just recently our deaf Dal has been refusing to come in our room . We've tried to coax him, he just fights us the whole way. I can't really say for sure why he doesn't want in the room, I don't think anything paranormal is going on....but it's just strange that he REALLY does not want to go in.

The other weird thing that has happened with my dogs, or my one dog in paticular....One night as I was sitting infront of my computer serfing the net, my female dog (Cleo) was sitting next to me. She sat up all of a sudden and was intently staring behind me. I started petting her, asking what she was looking at and trying to get her to look at me. She wouldn't budge. The weird thing is, she had the same stance as when she gets excited to see someone and wants them to pet her. I thought it was really strange and kind of made a mental note of it. Two days later I found out that my brother died that night about an hour or so before the whole incident had happened with my dog. I truly believe that my brother came to say goodbye and she saw and recognized him.

I definitely think that animals are very sensitive to spirit activity.....maybe your dog senses something and is trying to alert you, or is scared himself. Although I wonder why the other dog isn't reacting as well.

Ya know Azspirit, I've just recently had a 'touching' experience. My husband and I had gone away last weekend. We stayed at this beautiful old bed and breakfast. The second night we were there, I was woken by a feeling of someone scratching my foot. It freaked me out. At first I thought that I could have been dreaming, but that's what woke me and even after I was wide awake, I still had that kind of scratchy feeling, like after u scratch an itch, how u can still feel it . It felt like someone had taken there four fingers and ran them up the front of my foot. Of course I woke my husband out of a deep sleep to tell him, for which he was semi annoyed. I don't know what it was, or even if I was really dreaming that it happened, but it certainly felt real.
