Hello everyone, I came across this site on Google and this is my first post here. I've always been fascinated by ghosts and hauntings and have read many books, web sites, etc. on the subject, but I wanted to post this to relate a recent experience and to find out if what I felt could have been related to the place being haunted.

There is a restaurant about 25 minutes away from where I live which is known for its atmosphere, great food, and its resident ghost. I've been to that restaurant before and never saw or felt anything, but last night we went there for my wife's birthday, and as we were sitting at the table I started to feel disoriented, sort of like you feel when you're on a boat or something, like my balance was getting thrown off a bit. It would get strong, then weak, but it only seemed to occur while we were in the restaurant.

What I'm wondering is if a supernatural presence can be felt in this manner. I've read about people feeling a "presence" or like someone is in the room with them, but other than in stories about vortexes, I've never read about someone feeling dizzy or disoriented when near a ghost. That's why I'm posting this, to see if this is a common occurrence.

As a disclaimer, I wasn't drinking, and I had this feeling before we were served, so it wasn't the food either. Perhaps it was just a coincidence, or maybe I actually felt something...

Hi Kevin, Welcome to SpiritKeep. [Rainbow Smiley] Wow, your experience sounds like it was rather unpleasant. I've never experienced anything like it but I have read a couple stories of people becoming disoriented and physically impaired in haunted places, one of them was in the Whaley House-San Diego. Something else that might possibly cause such a feeling could be hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). I've had that happen before and it's most unpleasant. Sometimes excitement can bring it on, especially if you haven't eaten in a while. Did this sensation continue after you started your meal?

Please wish your wife a Happy Birthday for us. =)

Thanks for the info Renee. I hadn't eaten for a while (was saving room!). The blood sugar thing could be a possibility, though I've experienced this as well (I feel weak in that case) and this didn't feel the same. I felt it the most early on after we were at our table for a few minutes. I didn't feel it as much after the food arrived and we ate, but it was still "sort of" there. It was also sporadic, it would come on strong, then fade a bit. It wasn't severe, it's not like I was about to fall out of my chair or anything, it just felt weird and I was wondering if a supernatural presence could have been responsible. The closest thing to this I've experienced before was the slight disorientation you feel when you're on a cruise ship and it's moving or rocking, just enough to feel it.

Thanks on the birthday wish. Heather (my wife) had a wonderful time. Maybe I should ask her if she felt anything unusual...

Hi Kevin. What you experienced could very well have been caused by a normal, physical sensation such as hypoglycemia -- I've had that happen too and it isn't fun.
However, I've also experienced something very similar in regards to what I feel was paranormal. I have a guest room in my home that has had a lot of odd activity. One day, about a year or so ago, while just doing some routine chores, I stepped into an area just by the headboard of the bed and was overcome with a dizzying sensation. I took a step back and it went away. More curious than frightened, I stepped forward again and felt the same thing. I did this several times, I'm sure looking like I was playing a childhood game of jump rope, jumping in and out of this particular spot.
Just a few hours later, company was coming, and I asked the women, both of whom could be classified as sensitives to stand in that spot, without having told them what I had experienced.
When the first stood there, her eyes widened and said that she did indeed feel something in that spot. The other tried it and felt the same thing.
I haven't experienced that any other time, but I feel that whatever it was, was paranormal in origin. I've even wondered if a "portal" had opened up for some reason in that little spot.
It is an odd sensation, so what you experienced could have very well have some form of a spirit!
It does feel like your equilibrium is thrown off a bit. Did your wife experience anything? (Other than a nice birthday dinner I hope!) =)

Hi Kevin, welcome to SpiritKeep and Happy Birthday to Heather. [Wink]

I know what you mean about feeling weak when you're having a sugar low. That happens to me once in awhile. Seems this experience wasn't quite the same.... as Carrie mentioned, it very well could have been paranormal in nature. When I read your post, I thought of her experience immediately. I believe sundog (another member here) has some similar stories. So, in my mind, yes, feeling dizzy etc., during a paranormal experience is altogether possible.

Do ask your wife if she felt anything! Maybe you two can go back for round 2. [Big Grin]

Once again, welcome!

Well, I asked Heather if she felt anything unusual while we were at the restaurant, and she looked at me like I had two heads or something. [Confused] Apparently she didn't feel anything, or didn't notice or remember feeling anything.

So perhaps I just had a bad case of hypoglycemia, or she's not as psychically "tuned" as I am, or maybe I *am* crazy! =P

Naw, you're not crazy. [Nope!] If it was paranormal in nature, not everyone present will have the same sensations or feelings, so it really doesn't mean anything if she didn't notice something. [Wink]

Kevin, if it makes you feel any better, I had my husband also try moving in and out of the weird spot -- he gave me the two headed look also! [Laughing]
I told him he was just about as psychically intuned as a doorknob.
You just may have picked up on something, or perhaps it was more interested and focused on you for some reason.

Hi Kevin!
I am new here, and I just read your post about the sensation at the restaurant. Does this/or has it ever happened in any other places?
I am a sensitive and I get these feelings often. Although, I am not a pro at this LOL, I get feelings/impressions of people, buildings, etc. I have gotten ones so bad I felt like I was suffocating to very mellow calm effect feelings. I also pick these feelings up from people, even just walking by them in the mall.
Maybe it wasn't the restaurant but someone in the restaurant.
One of my experiences that really sticks with me to this day, is a young man I hired. All through the interview I felt great sadness, doom. His older brother and sister both had worked for me so I hired him, but I ended the interview quickly it was so troubling. I found out the next day what I was feeling. The young man died that night in a car crash sadly.
So, you can pick up these feelings from people that are alive?
I would go back and see if it happens again if it didn't make you too uncomfortable.
Have a good day! [Confused]

Hi Kevin! I'm glad you guys had a wonderful B-day dinner....well other then feeling disoriented. I know EXACTLY what you mean by feeling that way. I had something very similar happen, actually both my husband and I did. I hadn't thought about it for some time, but while reading your story, it rang a bell.

My husband and I were in an old barn turned antique store. It had an upstairs area that we decided to check out. The upstairs was broken up into two rooms. When we walked in the one room, we both felt very disoriented, exactly how you described it, like being a on a boat that is rocking. Because we were walking around, we also noticed that our legs felt very heavy. We went into the next room to see if we both felt the same way in there....and neither of us did. We did pretty much the same as Carrie, going back and forth between the two rooms to see if it kept happening. (Thank God no one else was up there with us) Everytime we went into the one room, heavy feeling....went into the next room...gone.

I don't know what to chalk that up to....we both got very weirded out and decided to just leave.

I definitely think you should take another trip back and see if it happens again. Maybe take a camera and if you feel anything strange snap a pic. Sounds like a pretty cool restauraunt, you could always say your taking pictures of the architecture [Wink]

I went to another haunted place today, a sandwich shop downtown from where I live. And I felt a slight disorientation again, not as strong as what I felt a couple weeks ago but I felt a little bit off, almost like I was dreaming when it was at its strongest. It's hard to say if this means anything, since it could have been my mind playing tricks on me, or hypoglycemia from walking a couple blocks from my car to the shop, or just the air in the place being stuffy. The only thing that makes me think it was the place is it seemed to go away after I left the place; e.g. I felt fine as I was driving back to work. But then the stuffy air theory fits that too.

Maybe I need to visit a haunted place where I don't know it's haunted, and see if I feel anything. The trouble is, I probably wouldn't pay attention to any feelings (unless they were strong) if I didn't know it was a haunted place!

Just wondering what the more experienced folk on here think...

Kevin, after reading some of the other's posts on this thread, I started thinking of several instances when I have felt this sensation other than that day in my guest bedroom.
I believe it was Trinity who mentioned feeling this way in an antique shop, which really struck a chord with me. I have been in places like that, one in particular, that I did feel this sensation strongly. Like I said before, it almost feels as if your equilibrium is a little off -- even a little similar to "medicine head", when you've taken a strong medication.
I've also experienced something very similar in museums, and even gotten a few "flashes" of people in my mind's eye that may have had some sort of tie with the place.
The most intense of these experiences happened when I was visiting the Tower of London a few years ago, which is notoriously haunted. I literally felt like something was pushing me, physically toward one of the cells, and again down a flight of stairs -- it was an extremely unpleasant experience. One of those "feet don't fail me now" times. Our tour guide even noticed that I looked a little shell shocked and discreetly asked me if something had happened. I wish now I had been a little more forthcoming with him, just to have seen if any of the other tourists had similar experiences. I was a little afraid of getting that "growing two-heads" look! [Laughing]
Anyway, I feel pretty sure after reading your description and thinking back to some of my own experiences that this more than likely was a case of some sort of "sixth sense." It might not hurt to write some of this down and document some of these feelings, just in case there is some pattern to it. It sounds as though you may have some sort of increasing psychic awareness.

Hi People! =)
Earlier this week, my husband said he was riding his motorcycle down to Cinncinati from the Sandusky area to pick up a lift truck he needs for his district.
Something made me jump right at that and said no,I
will drive you. This is a 4 hour trip one way. He's kept on me for 3 days he can do this and put his bike in the truck and I have a sense of forboding that says, "No WAY!" I love you! We ate a late dinner last night and as we stood at the kitchen island, a talking about this, a pretty large peice of kitchen equipment moved itself across the opposite counter. Hubby starts, "its wet, it's not level" and he knows neither is true. It then moved itself the other way to show him? LOL He said, "Ok, drive me!"
At 4:00am this morning, something woke me up and lo and behold there was an orb over my husbands dresser. I just had to get in my office and write this down to you all. This is how I sense things?
And yes, I also pick up vibes from people that are alive.
Well, see that settled that, I am taking hubby and he knows better than to go against my "thing" as he calls it! LOL
Have a good day all!

Like a ghost, this thread keeps coming back to haunt us! [Eek!]

I had to run to the bank at lunch today, so I went to the haunted sandwich shop downtown again. I didn't feel much this time, just a "feeling" (residual perhaps?) when I walked in, but no dizziness or disorientation. Nothing exciting happening today; maybe Mr. Ghostie was taking a nap or went out for lunch at another place or something. [Nerdily Unsure] Oh, their steak 'n cheese wasn't half bad either!

Kevin! [Laughing]

Well, some - if not most - haunted places don't have continual activity, so, not feeling anything in particular doesn't mean it isn't haunted. Have you ever talked to the owner(s) or employees about the haunt?

Glad the steak n' cheese was good! =)

Damien,

The restaurant was the Country Tavern in Nashua, NH. I've never been to PA (yet). But it seems like I'm not alone! [Eek Smile]
