Has anyone ever tried to do table tilting or typtology? I was looking around on the net and come across this and was wondering if it really worked and how its done.BTW here's what typtology is:

"Typtology is a method of communication with spirits by means of rapping with various codes being arranged for the purpose. Thus sitters may read the alphabet aloud, or slowly pass a pencil down a printed alphabet, the rappings indicating the correct letters that when joined together form a message or answer to the question propounded. One rap could signify the answer "yes" while two could mean "no."

Here's a link about The Fox Sisters and the table tilting.

I've heard of it, and I know it was quite popular in Victorian times, kind of as a parlor game. I haven't checked out your link yet, but were the Fox sisters found to be fakes, or am I thinking of another story?
I believe Dinky Dave had an interesting experience with this that was pretty spooky, you might want to look in the archives of the paranormal section to see the thread on it.
It sounds fascinating, but I'm way too chicken to try it -- a little too close to a ouija board type thing for my comfort!

Yep, it's too close to the Ouija for me too. I've not tried either of the methods mentioned, nor do I plan on it. [Wink]

Ive heard about the rappings as a form of communication as well.Miners used to be able to tell whether or not a disaster was about to happen because they would hear rappings.

The table raising is really interesting, something not for the faint of heart.

My two nieces were fooling around with a similar idea but instead of using a table for gleaning answers they used a couple sets of dice, the more sixes one got the truer the answer ( the worked out the code before hand, sixes meant yes, lower numbers meant no). It was a silly game, but the die were always spot on with the correct answer. I never even thought it could be a possible connection to the spirit world, just a silly game two girls thought up.
