Hey all!

I received an email from Linda (ubenframed), asking about an unusual picture she found in an old yearbook. She'd like opinions on what she sees in this photo. What do you think? It rather reminds me of the Brown Lady of Raynham Hall. [Wink] I'll let her know she can come by here to see your input. =)

Well to me it looks like a glare from a window. The 'head' looks like a half moon type window, and the 'body' looks like the rest of the window. To give an idea of what Im talking about click to this link

to see the type of window I think it may be. Im not associated with that site, it was just the first one I found that had the image of the window I am thinking of.

I dunno... I'm leaning more to thinking it was some form of spirit energy. It reminds me of the Brown Lady photo as well. It may have just been an odd, quirky photo, but I can almost make out some facial features. It would be interesting to know what, if anything, was on that site before the school was built. Interesting pic!

I'm leaning toward Gaines point of view.

The photo taker was using a light when taking the picture, notice the busts shadow, indicating a light on the landing, also the glare in the interior woodwork of the book case. But notice the edge of the window in the left side of the frame. Notice the shadow from the the horses head in the relief picture and the picture frame shadow. It is showing a shadow from the window. Also the edge of the wall at the window frame indicates light coming from a window just out of view. With a window at that angle from the wall the light cast against it would create that kind of a distortion for a tall window with a half-moon glass at the top.
The more I look at it and the more I analyze it, the more it looks like a window reflection on the wall.
I truly wish it was a good ghostie picture. I love good ghostie pictures.

I think that I'm going to go with Gaines and Nakis on this one, it looks to me like light coming from the window. Judging from the shadows the light is coming not only from the window to the side but perhaps one lower down from the stairwell as well-or maybe a lightbulb there or simply from the flash of the camera, I noticed that the bust shadow is taller than the bust itself- indicating a light source below it. Though I don't think any manipulation of the pic went on here it actually would have been possible even in 1929, you can get many neat special effects in a darkroom, possibly even more convincing than those done on a computer. But like I said, I don't think that's what happened here.

As much as I love good ghostie pictures, I have to go along with the glare from the window. But I can certainly understand why you would have investigated it.

I would also have to go with the glare from the window. It just makes the most sense to me, especially if it's one of those types of windows with the arched top.
