This is probably the best known hidden treasure story locally; the bandit gold that is reputed to still be hidden somewhere in Colossal Cave located 17 miles east of Tucson:

Yep, I remember hearing the tour guide mention that as I toured the cave some years ago. I wonder if the treasure is still in there somewhere?

Have not been to Colossal Cave since I was 13 when I was in the Boy Scouts and our troop went on a field trip there. I recall being fascinated by the bandit story.

A former high school classmate went to prison for attempting to burglarize the gift shop there; guess he was trying to seek some treasure from outside the cave. Not to bright he and his accomplace were; when they were interupted by the night watchman they drive to the picnic area and go to sleep in the van where they were caught.
