My brother and his wife have lived in a very old very haunted house for about 3 years now. The house itself is about 300 yr's old. It's a beautiful 3 story farm house...there is also reminence of an even older farm house on the property. My sister-in-laws father had purchased the house with the hopes of turning it into a bed and breakfast, which my brother and her would have run. Unfortuneatly with zoning laws, it couldn't be done.

Over the years they've had a lot of experiences in the house. For ex: if your sitting downstairs and everyone is very quiet, it sounds as if someone is talking or as if the tv is on, on the second floor. Certian rooms in the house are very inviting while others make you feel very uncomfortable. They have a cat and a dog, both of whom have acted quite strange at times.(Just to name a few, too many to get into on this post) I for one would NEVER be caught dead in that house by myself. [Eek!]

They had a baby about 6 months ago, and since then they have said that the activity has pretty much stopped. Which I thought was really strange because I had always heard that children, especially babies and infants attract a lot of ghostly attention. They are also getting ready to move at the beginning of August, so I am very interested in seeing wether the activity picks up again in the process.

My sister-in-law had spoken to the woman who bought the house and explained that it's haunted. The woman just looked at her like she had two heads. Well, if she doesn't believe now, I have a feeling she will. My brother had told her to call them if she experiences anything because they would be interested to know if they start acting up after the move.

Sorry about the length, I just had to share. I'll keep everyone posted as the big move gets closer. [Big Grin] Also, What do you guys think about the activity coming to a halt with the new baby arriving?

Hey, no worries about the length, Trin. [Wink]

Sounds like a great house! It's too bad they weren't able to turn it into a B&B. [Sigh] Why did they decide to move? I wonder if the lady who bought it will ever tell them if she experiences anything? [Nerdily Unsure]

I agree that ghosts are attracted to babies and children, but maybe the activity stopped (probably a temporary thing) because of the change of atmosphere in the house (new baby). It's hard to say! Maybe someone else will have a good theory. [Big Grin]

It is ashame that they couldn't turn it into a B&B. It's such an amazing house! They have to move because my Sister-in-Laws father owns the house (they were paying rent to live there) and decided that he needed to sell. I wonder too if the woman who bought it will even let them know if the ghosty's start acting up! I have a feeling that they will....and soon!

Before they actually move, I'd like to take my camera over and get some pictures. If I capture anything I'll be sure to post! Maybe I'll post either way....you guys gotta see this house! [Nutty]

That's too bad Trinity. Sometimes zoning laws are a game. I've seen zones change merely because you ask and other times the town completely refuses no matter what. Haunted houses often make good B&Bs.

My theory on the baby issue is that it depends on the ghosties involved. Like you said about the rooms in the house where some were inviting and some were uncomfortable. If there were bad ghosties there you would have felt worse than uncomfortable. It could be that the ghosties in there are just being quiet for a little while at least because of the new resident.
Whereas some ghosties would make a nuisance of themselves or try harder to make themselves known when something changes. My theory anyway. Based upon the idea that ghosties are people too. =)

I hope the new owner enjoys the place.

I have agree Nakis, that the ghosts aren't 'bad' persay. My Mom actually had a friend of hers that is "psychic" do a walk through of the house to see what, if any, impressions she got. (I used the quotations not because I don't believe that she is psychic, but toward the end of her visit she became very "showy" and once that started happening, my faith in her went down a few points)

On the third floor they have 3 rooms and a bathroom. This woman went into the one bedroom and stated that whomever slept in that room would have a very disrupted nights sleep. In the other room she stated that anyone that slept in that room would have a very peaceful nights sleep. I don't remember her saying anything about the third room or the bathroom.

The funny thing about the two rooms that she did comment on was that my sister-in-law had recently had guests staying at the house in those rooms, and both had commented on how disruptive/peaceful their nights sleep had been. Her friend who stayed in the "disruptive" room had said that she heard noises all night and that everytime she would start to fall asleep she would hear something that would wake her up again. The psychic siad that that room was occupied by a little girl who liked to play and "get into things" so to speak.

The other friend who had stayed in the "Peaceful" room said that when she first went to bed she was nervous (having been told that the house was haunted) she then said that she felt someone stroking her hair and heard someone say "there there." [Eek!] She was really freaked out at first, but then said that she felt very calm and relaxed and soon fell asleep.....having the best nights sleep she had had in awhile. Even though it ended up not being a terrible experience for her, she refused to stay in the house again after that.

They also have a spring house on the property. This woman had commented about one of the ghosts going out to the spring house, or being in it and another ghost waiting for him to come back. Well, a few months before that my Mom had been in the spring house and took some pictures. In one of the pictures there is a mist infront of my brother. [Eek!]

I know I've said this before, but I really do wish that they would have been able to turn it into a B&B. It would have been perfect! I do hope the new owners appreciate what they are getting. Not only are they getting a beautiful house, but they are getting some ghosty's to go with it. They should have charged extra for each ghost! (hehe)
