I want to try and capture a picture of a orb and don't know how to go about it. I know that is is mostly luck if you capture one on film where and how should I begin? Any advice would be great Thanks Kitchenwitch

Hi Kitchenwitch,

It's just a matter of loading the camera with film (if it's 35mm and not digital - but either kind will work) and start snapping pictures! I find the digital to be less expensive so you don't end up wasting money for processing on pics that might not have a thing in them. However, 35mm are good to use as well, in that they provide a negative to check against the pics that come out. And contrary to some beliefs, you CAN catch anomalies on the digital cams. I promise. [Wink] Also, the little disposable cameras work too, from what I've heard.

Good luck and let us know if you come up with anything! =)

KW, another little tip for catching some good orbs are when there are unusual things going on in a building, for instance, any painting or remodeling activity.

Kell and I have also discovered that ghosts like music! Certain things seem to help bring them out... like hoedown music (bluegrass banjo or fiddle music, too).

They also seem to come around during a holiday or family gathering... so, we always try to take pictures during Christmas, for instance. Our orbs do some pretty interesting things around that time. We have a pic of one small orb either going into or coming out of my son's nose! LMAO =)

Just keep taking pics of your surroundings, and you will probably capture an orb or two after while. You might even want to tell the spirits that you want to take their pic, and for them to gather round.... this seems to work for us, and also for others.

Kinpa, I have to agree about the digital cameras! They are really great, and such a savings of money for film and processing. No avid ghosthunter should be without one. However, there are a couple of models that are known to give false positives, ie. the orbs are an anomaly caused by the camera itself, and they are a strange shape... kind of diamond-shaped. (I think the Sony Mavica is one that does this. ) =)

I found a couple of interesting theories why some people get lots of orbs and anomolies and why others get none..

First.. you might notice (after time) that certain members of a team capture certain types of anomolies.. (there is a girl in our group that seems to pick up evp all the time..whenever she holds the recorder, we get voices etc. in haunted locations).. and we have one photographer that seems to get lots of anomolies while others with him (shooting at the same time) get none...
theory one : some people are natural mediums (of different types) .. one who is visual, even though not seeing things directly .. will somehow "know" just when to snap a picture etc.
and their sensitivity seems to build up with time.
It seems that once you get one paranormal photo it gets easier and easier..

second theory.. when you begin to look for ghosts, they begin to look for you..so it would get easier..
also it seems that once you lose the conditioning we are all given "it cant exist therefore I dont see it" you would be more perceptive and aware of "feelings" that may lead you to some good photos..

If all else fails, wait for a decent EMF reading and start shooting!!! =)

Here's a thought - ask them. I've always heard that you should ask permission to take their picture. Even a simple "Hi. I'm taking a picture here and if you want to be in it, get in front of me." might work.

the pics i have are sort of different (to me at least), they are of the woman i was to marry a year and a half ago...she lost her battle with cancer...before that we had made arrangements for her to "come back" to me so to speak...well, she did, and at the time these pics were taken, i was speaking to her and asked if i could take her pic..she said yes and told me where to point the camera...so i have to pictures, of my living room, both with a pinkish orange light in them...in one the light is vaguely shaped like a rose...she said she was giving me a rose, tho i didnt see it untill i looked at the pics...the other pic is heart shaped(again, vaguely) and at the time of this shot she said she was giving me her heart....it is also notable that although the pics are taken of the same spot in the room, the pinkish light is in a different spot..im pretty sure , in this case, it wasnt the camera's fault...although that had occurred to me...perhasps i should post them on this site and see what everyone else thinks??

Voxtones, I think you are right about some people being natural mediums and others developing certain sensitivities after working with the paranormal for a period of time. Ghost photography does seem to get easier with practice, and it is amazing what sensitivities you may develop. I can be sitting here at my computer, and I 'feel' a presence behind me, and I'll tell Kell to snap a pic behind me, and most times, we will get an orb or two. She is also sensitive to their presence.

We often see spirits with the naked eye, traversing our hallway. We seem to have a 'spirit highway' through the house sometimes. There is a darker figure that we usually see only the upper 2/3 of, kind of an 'Abe Lincoln' looking figure... tall and dressed in a dark suit. There are others, too... lighter colored in most cases... and never a full figure, usually seen out of the corner of the eye. Often 2 or more of us at our house will see them at the same time. We wish that the figures were more clearly, since they are usually pretty transparent. We have yet to be fast enough to catch one on camera.
When we do, we will certainly share it. =)

Mare, [Laughing] The part of your first post about the orb coming out of your sons nose is cracking me up!

I also have to agree that I think some people become more in tune with the paranormal the longer they work with it. Although, there are those who are just naturally in tune. My husband is one of those people. The pictures that Kell posted from my Gettysburg trip are proof of that. I would have never taken those pictures had my husband not kept turning around and saying how uncomfortable he felt. So out popped the camera, and I ended up capturing orbs in every picture. I used my digital camera, as I always do.

I usually get great results with it, and yes, it does save a lot of money on film [Big Grin] . It's great too because you can preview the pics. on the camera and delete the ones that you don't want. The only thing that I have wondered, and Mare you touched on this a little bit, is about the false positives. I seem to capture a lot of orbs on this camera. Although, I take a lot more pictures with it then I have with any other camera I've ever had.
