Damien, I don't know if any of this will help you or not - seems there is even less on the net about these two locations! Either that, or I'm having a bad search day. [Laughing]

Boyertown

Comprised from both here and here:

- Rhoads Opera House: A fire burned down the original building in 1908. Over 170 people died in the fire. Their remains, mixed with ashes from the building, were buried in a common grave located in Fairway Cemetery. Cries and moans of those who died could be heard from the grave. Police have had numerous reports of the phenomena.
Type of  Phenomena:  Visiting Spirits, Malevolent Inhuman Spirits and Psychic Impressions.
Directions:  The old building was rebuilt in the same location as the old one in downtown. 19512. Phone: 215-367-7824.

Oley & Oley Valley

Taken from
here:

Long Lane: The apparition of a young girl is seen along this road, wearing a white gown. According to legend, she was awaiting her husband-to-be during the Revolutionary War. He died in battle. According to reports, she is only witnessed between May and July.

Found at
wintersteel.com:

SACRED OAK - A powerful presence in the great oak tree was revered by Indians and white settlers alike. Even today, people come to the base of the two-hundred year old tree to perform rituals, meditate, and share in its energy.
[The huge chestnut oak is at the rear of a private farmyard on Friedensburg Rd. in Oley Valley.]

A ghost story from the Oley Valley:

The Yoder ghost story, as related by Elizabeth Yoder, Yost's daughter, in 1743, tells how her father's spirit returned to visit her. It seems that like most ghosts, he had a message for his daughter which he was unable to give her before his death. It was to "scorn and despise not the Frenchman," i.e.:Dr. George deBenneville (1703-1793), who was the pioneer preacher of the Universalist gospel in America. He lived in Germantown but also had a base in Oley. On being asked by his daughter where he was, Yost Yoder's ghost answered that he was "at a good place," and his beloved brother (Hans) was there too. This story appeared in a bestseller volume of ghost appearances, with religious commentary, published by Christopher Sauer in Germantown in 1744. It was reprinted in 1748,1755, and 1792.

Damien,

I suggest getting copies of the Ghost Stories of Berks County books by Charlie Adams. There are 3 volumes of ghost story books and one called Berks The Bizarre. They have many stories from the Oley area. They can be purchased online or at Waldon's bookstore in the local malls.

Damien,

Huff's Church Cemetary is a very active location that is not listed in Charlie's books. Check out my group's website, we did a few investigations there. the URL is http://www.geocities.com/berks_paranormal

Damien,

We don't normally do very well there with photos but we get some very good EVP and EMF spikes up around the big statue. also, next time you go there let me know if you smell anything unusual from time to time....i'll explain more after i hear back from you on this, i would like to hear if you experienced anything before i tell you what we have been experiencing there.

the stories i have heard from there were centered around that statue now i dont know if they are true but ill tell them anyway. a friend told me that they were up there one night by that statue and they said that when they walked over the grave they said they felt like someone was pounding on the ground underneath them and they also did mention something about a smell but i cant remember what they said it smelled like ill check it out this weekend? what kind of evps are you getting and what kind of equipment are you using for these? i have a handheld digital recorder will this work? thanx =)

Damien,

All the EVP's we got there with the exception of one are of a small child, maybe 10-12 years old. I have them posted on our website if you want to check them out. The other EVP is a man saying the name Mary. I'm not using anything fancy up there for EVP recording, just a Panasonic RR-US320 digital recorder with a good quality omni-directional mic. We have bever experienced any thumping on the ground there but there is a very distinct smell that comes and goes, it is the smell of Camfer, Camfer was used as a remedy for chest congestion a long time ago, kind of like Vicks Vaporub is now, it was used quite a bit on influenza victims. the part that makes this smell interesting is the fact that two of the EVP's i recorded there from the child make references to being ill, the first one he says "I'm sick" and one investigation later i asked "how did you die?" and the response was "Got the flu". this is interesting because an influenza outbreak went through that area in the mid to late 1800's and all the graves in that part of the cemetary are from that time frame.

Steve,

Almost everything we got was to the right of the Statue if you are facing the road that goes to Landis Store. you really need to switch to an omni-directional mic, it makes a huge difference. you can get them cheap enough at any decent electronics store. This weekend we'll be at Moonshine Cemetary near Fort Indian Town Gap investigating the story of the Blue Eyed Six.

Steve,

Getting to New Bethel is pretty easy from Boyertown/Gilbertsville. Take Rt 73W to 662N. Follow 662N through Fleetwood, go straight at the Traffic light at Rt 222 staying on 662N. Go around 1 mile and bear right onto Rt143. follow Rt 143 for about 15 miles. Turn Left onto Hawk Mountain Road, you'll see a blue sign on 143 for Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, that is Hawk Mountain Rd. go 1 mile, turn left onto New Bethel Church Rd, the cemetary is 1/4 mile on the right. we've never done anything at Valley Forge but maybe in the near future we'll head down there.
