Something odd happened the other day, and thought I would share with you all. I have 2 dogs and 1 cat, and we live in an old house. My dalmatian started staring at the corner of my computer room late Thurs. afternoon. He was panting and acting like he does when I play with him. It was really weird, his eyes were moving around like he was watching a person, but I couldn't see anyone. It was really strange, and he was wagging excitedly. It went on for about an hour. Any ideas? [Shocked]

My husband sees dark shapes from time to time, and we know our house has a history, but this is the first time my dog has acted weird.

Hello! I used to have a schnauzer that would act like that when he was alive here in this house. And this house is definently haunted. [Eek Smile]
Sounds like your house is haunted too. We have those black shadows here too. I don't like seeing them. Do you all see those shadows often?

Not too often, once every few month. I also have books that find their way onto the floor, 3 or 4 feet away from the shelf. Heavy books.

We also see a strange cat, not our own, in front of the door upstairs. It's a little unnerving, but we've gotten quite accustomed to it. =)

Isn't it funny how these things that are so strange become almost common place when you live in a haunted house?! While I was in college, my family had a home with an odd history. To make a long story short, a business partner of the first owner had hung himself in a large oak tree in the back yard. At the time, I had an American Eskimo Spitz, a little white furball, who would dance on her back legs around that tree, very much acting as if someone was playing with her. From what you describe, your dalmation may be experiencing the same thing. I believe animals are much more intune with things like this than people are. We have had numerous stories on this board of family pets sensing spirits.
That is pretty neat about the ghost cat! Old houses are full of surprises. Have you researched the history of your home? I would think that kitty might have belonged to a previous owner.

Hi Carrie! Yes, it is funny how things like this become part of your life. I know a little bit about our house. We live in the historic district of our city, so it is quite old. Years ago, 3 old women lived and died in this house. They never married,it was just them. I'm assuming the ghost kitty was theirs.

On a side note, my husband lived in the house next door, before we were married. I was resting in his bed while he was at a meeting at work. I thought he came home, because the blankets rustled on the edges of the bed, like when someone is walking around the bed. I wasn't sleeping, just had my eyes closed, and I thought it was him. It happened a couple of times. A few minutes later, I got out of bed, wondering why he hadn't said anything to me. Well, he came home from the meeting about an hour later!

That house is also haunted. I would see shadows pass over the brass lightplates, when there was no way it was a reflection. Pretty safe to assume I am a believer! [Laughing]

I have to agree with Carrie, I think animals are much more intune to this kind of thing. Maybe your dalmatian was watching your ghost kitty play? Have you seen the cat anywhere else other then outside the door in the upstairs?

It is funny how something like this can become part of your everyday life. I can't even imagine what I would do if I lived in a haunted house...but if I did...I'm sure that it would just become another part of the everyday norm.

Have you tried to take any pictures to see if you could capture anything on film? The next time your dog starts acting like he's watching something, you should snap a couple of pics. and see what you get!

I agree as well.. I think our animals are naturally more in tune with these things than we are. They never had anyone tell them ghosts aren't real. [Wink]

Our Beagle (Doc) has done things like this on occasion, but he doesn't get happy - he's curious. He'll be laying on the couch when all of a sudden he perks up and is staring at something near the ground - he follows it with his eyes/head. When it gets out of his sight, he hops down and starts sniffing all around the area he apparently saw it disappear. And he keeps searching for a good while! It makes me wonder if it isn't our old Beagle (Chelsea) paying a visit, or perhaps just an orb that we don't happen to see at the time. Upon further thought, if Doc saw what he perceived to be another dog or animal, he'd go ballistic, so maybe it is something he doesn't recognize. [Wink]

Kell,
I don't think Doc would go balistic if it were Chelsea. Chelsea has been in the house since he was brought there so she's part of the place and something that he got used to long ago.

My chow has a game she plays with our cats. She acts like she's ignoring them unless they get too close to her food dish or she's tired of them purring around her - then she takes her front paws and slaps the floor like she's going to chase after them. The cats run and you can almost see Beethoven grin. Occationally, this happens when there is not a cat in site so I think it could be our white cat that died of liver decease - I've seen evidence of her so why wouldn't Beethoven.
