ok I'm going to tell you my "ghost" story. I don't know what the hell it was, maybe you guys could help me come up with some theories.

k I went to bed, laying on my back and covered with 2 blankets. I looked at the clock before closing my eyes it was 11:52. The radio came on, even though I didn't have the alarm set and there is no remote for it, it was still 11:52.

I looked towards my window and there was a black figure. It moved it's arms over my bed and my comforter flew horizontally off of the foot of the bed. It then grabbed my other blanket and put it over my face like doctors do when someone dies.

I put my hands over my face and started crying. A split second later everything was back to normal, I was lying the exact same way I was just after closing my eyes.

I looked at the clock, I thought it was a dream. However, if it were a dream I don't think the clock would still have said 11:52.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this, thanks

when you say you were laying exactly as before you closed your eyes, do you mean the blankets were still covering you too?

I'm not psychic but because of the time on the clock and the fact that everything was back in place when it ended, it doesn't appear to me that this event actually took place at that time. It seems more like a suppressed memory or maybe a psychic flash, either of the future or an event that happened to someone else in your room in the past. The fact that the figure was black may just mean that you're not ready to see who this figure is.

First of all, I'd keep a journal of these flashes - what happens in them; the times they are happening; your surroundings before, while, and after they happen; and the feelings you're having while they are happening. Secondly, I'd do some research on your home and the grounds around them and I'd take some pictures of the area.

Don't rule out a dream either, they don't always happen in real time. Sometimes when you start to drift off to sleep you can have a brief, intense dream and then wake up suddenly. Especially since you said your blankets were still in place when the event ended.

How long did the figure appear to be there? Seconds? Minutes? You say you looked at the clock "during" the event. If you just fell asleep, you could have dreamt the clock said 11:52 since that was fresh in your mind. Did you look at the clock afterward?

The more I think about it, the more I think you might have had a brief bout of sleep paralysis, where you're dreaming but awake at the same time. In this case you could really have looked at the clock while dreaming about the figure, which your mind superimposed on the image your eyes were seeing. I've had this happen and it can lead to some bizarre dreams.

Kevin
I looked at the clock just after and it was still 11:52. It all seemed to have lasted a couple minutes at Least. I looked at the clock after the radio turned on, just before noticing the figure standing near my bed. Is it possible to dream that quick?

Connie
This was the only time that's happened to me. I don't know the history of the house, I've lived in the same house all of my life and that is the only really weird thing that's happened... other than hearing my dog's claws on the lenolium floor after he was killed by a car.
My parents have lived in that house for I think 22 or so years. I don't think they even know the history. How would I go about finding that information?

thanks guys

Anybody any good at research tips - please jump in here:

I suppose you could go to the courthouse and check the ownership records to get some names of previous owners. They you do a search at the library and newspaper archives to see if any of those names pop up. Also, if you have any neighbors that have lived in the area longer than your parents, you could ask if they knew the people that lived there before.

Do you remember what was playing on the clock radio? A song or talk radio? That might be a clue. I am leaning towards a past life flash or something similar. Perhaps a warning. Try to remember what was on the radio though. That would have scared the jeebies out of me.

I don't remember exactly what it was, I'm leaning towards hungry like the wolf.. though I can't say for sure if that's right.

I think you all gave some good options, I'm thinking a dream but I'm not sure. Most dreams appear real and you think your awake. It could of been a nasty nightmare, I'm sure everyone here has had a nightmare that you thought was real.

If it wasn't then maybe something would turn up if you looked into previous owners. It would be good to know that it has already happened and isn't going too.

Either way thanks for sharing - nasty experience.

Well, if the radio was playing "Hungry Like The Wolf" then you're talking early 80s, or you're listening to a station that plays stuff from the early-mid 80s. That would tend to rule out a past life thing, if Tink is more than 20 years old or so. EDIT: I just looked at your profile, and your birth date is in 1982, right about when Hungry Like The Wolf came out. Maybe it could be a past life experience.

More likely it was a dream, maybe sleep paralysis. Especially if the entire event occurred within a minute but seemed longer. Sometimes if I'm drifting off to sleep I'll slip into a dream state for a few seconds and then wake up with a start. I'll remember some aspect of the dream but sometimes it seems like I'm remembering something that, in real time, would have taken a lot longer than the time the actual dream took place. Also I've had dreams that seemed to span days, weeks, or years within the dream but in real time took place during one REM cycle, however long they are.

Wow Tink! That sounds really scary. I'm not really sure what that could have been. I do have to say that I have fallen asleep and started having a dream almost immediately. Although, this happens most often in the morning...my alarm will go off, I wake up and hit snooze which goes off every 10 minutes. In that 10 minutes I'll have a dream. The thing is when I wake up to alarm going off again I feel as if it was much longer then 10 minutes. Almost like I have had a full nights worth of dreaming in that time. If that makes sense.

Sorry that I don't have much in the way of advice. I do think that checking out the history of your house could be very helpful. Let us know if you come across anything or if it happens again.

Very interesting Tink. I've had very quick very real dreams. The most vivid and similar to your I've had was a couple of years ago. I had just laid down to go to sleep and apparently had drifted off, in my dream I woke up and saw a very short man standing by my dresser. It scared the bejeezus outta me and I screamed, which woke me up. I woke up sitting straight up and looking at the same spot I had just seen the man in my dream. It was very scary and I believe I slept with the light on that night.

I wasn't so scared that I slept with the light on but I don't think I've slept on my back like that since.. I used to always sleep on my back, now for some reason I can't.

maybe you guys are right that it was a dream/sleep paralysis. I dunno really. I just hope that it never happens again!! hehe

That was the first scary thing that happened to me. The last one was last summer , my family and me were at a hotel and my sister and me were sharing a room. I fell asleep and was woken up by my bed shaking. We don't get earthquakes in ND. There weren't any trains going by. It just felt like someone was grabbing the matress and shaking it. My sister the same night said she felt someone tug on the blanket. We were in separate beds so it wasn't me. So I don't know what that was all about.

Tink, reading this it does remind me of sleep paralysis which I've experienced quite a few times myself and it is very scary. During this episode were you unable to move at all?

With me it's the same type of thing where someone or something lands on top of me pinning me down.
