Hi, I was going to post this as a poll originally but I decided to get on my soapbox instead. [Laughing] I was just on another message board (sorry) [Roll Eyes] , when a 'professional' psychic posted an opinion and I am interested in reading the opinions of the people here. This person basically stated that there are very few people who are 'gifted' and naturally talented. Okay, I agree. Every field has its prodigies. However, what I did not agree with was the fact that this person feels that if you are not one of the 'gifted' you are pretty much out of luck. I don't believe that at all. I personally am of the opinion that we all have these higher senses but are trained out of using them as we grow up. If a person has the desire and works at it I truly believe that they can become their own best psychic advisor. I am living proof of that. I have worked for the last few years at tuning in, and since last Easter it is as if someone has flipped a switch. I am able to 'read' for family and friends as well as having channeling and mediumship abilities. I don't consider myself gifted. I studied, meditated, and learned to see beyond the physical senses. Anyone can do it if they put their mind to it.
Whew! I better lay off the caffeine! [Eek!] Sorry about that, I don't know why that post struck such a nerve with me. Anyhow, what do you all think. Can anyone develop their abilities or are we all psychic as a rock except for the gifted few (who we need to rely on for readings)? [Confused] [Rainbow Smiley] [Big Grin] [Embarrassed]

Don't have anything to back me up but I think we are all born with it, some better than others granted but I do think we all have the ability and the capability to make it better/stronger if we work at it...just my thoughts!

I agree that we are all born with a "aixth sense". I believe that it is based on instincts...those gut feelings people get, that they sometimes regret not going with. I also believe that it can vary from person to person. Some people will get images, some smells, some sounds or voices, others just feelings...things like that. I don't have anything to back myself up on this either, that is just what I think. =)

Well, I agree that we are all born with some degree of a sixth sense. As children our minds are so much more open to any and all possiblities and then as we age, some people tune out. Sometimes I think certain people can't handle it mentally? I really am not sure.
The only thing that I can say for sure is strong abilities run through family's. From generation to generation. Is it because this issue is more open in these family's? Something I have thought about.
I think (I keep saying think) that most everyone gets those, "Oh, I don't know about this" feelings. Is that a sixth sense or common sense? Hard to say.
Do I think certain people are picked out because they are special? No.
Also, sometimes I wonder about brainwaves? After I had my stroke, I found out that I have abnormal activity in my right rear lobe that can't be explained by medicine. Maybe by heridity, accident we got tuned in to something.
There are so many theory's. This is a really good subject Snoopy.
I honestly can't say that I or anyone that I know, knows anything for sure.
Only thing I do know is this is me, how I am? And I never wanted it to change. But I don't feel special, privilgied or better than anyone else either.
I am going to have to check this one out! LOL
Ya' made me think Snoopy! And I will think about it some more.
Hugs!

Boy,it sure sounds like that"professional psychic" really needs to believe that to feel special. That's unfortunate, and akin to putting someone down to feel better about yourself.(What a shame!)I think that psychic abilities are really just a form of instinct that, like other members have stated, we have been tought to ignore.Good question! =) I should note-no backup either.

This topic popped into mind when I was watching John Edwards this morning as he interviewed his one and only psychic teacher, Sandy Anastasi and she joked about how it was to teach a squirmy 15 year old John how to meditate. For more info and to see some of the books she has written and co-written, check out this site:
