I was curious if anyone has ever used a ouija board to talk to spirits? Is it a bad idea? I bought one a few weeks ago and have never used one or even touched mine since I bought it. My husband is petrified of it (lol) and wont even try it with me. I have strange things happen in my house and I was curious if the ouija is a way of finding out who they are. One spirit is good and just does things to make us aware that it is there; like I can hear a harmonica play every once in awhile at 11:00pm on the dot, toys will turn theirselves on and start playing, tv going through channels on its own, and a strong smell of lilacs at time. The not so good spirit likes to scare the hell out of me. One night I was asleep and I could hear the kitchen cabinets being slammed really fast over and over again. I looked over and my husband was still sleeping. I then did child count to make sure it was not them trying to steal some cookies, they were all asleep. The slamming of the cabinets continued so I woke my husband up thinking maybe someone was in the house. He was too chicken to go into the kitchen so I went, as soon as I stepped foot in the dining room next to the kitchen, it stoped. I walked in and said out loud that I do not appriciate this crap in the middle of the night, and told the spirit by the power of the white light of the holy spirit to please let me rest. I then turned around and went to leave the room, and it did it one more time. I could see a black shadow in the corner of my eye move towards the wall and then it was gone. Any suggestions?? [Embarrassed]

The ouija board I can't say I'd really advise. Personally I don't find them safe. Kinda like opening your door and telling anyone who wanders past to come on in and make themselves comfortable. Ghost control isn't my strong suit, however in my personal experience I found that asking them to leave you be helped somewhat. Best of luck to you =)

I used one when I lived with 4 other students in a big house in college. From that night on our house had something very bad in it and we ended up moving out because of it. So I would say, toss the thing asap! I'll never, ever go near one again.

all of those suggestions are great about the ouija board but i would recomend returning it if you still have the recipt and its still sealed if not then by all means burn it. there are other ways (safer ways) to contact them. example just ask them who they are.

Butterfly Rose, I'm of the opinion they are not safe. I agree with the others, return the thing if possible, or just get rid of it. Miranda's analogy of opening your door to a stranger is a good one.
When I was about 14, I decided I wanted one of these things, like a lot of teenagers do. Thinking it was pretty much a toy, a couple of girls and I sat around one evening, asking silly questions about which boys liked us, etc... To make a long story short, we started getting a hold of something we were not ready to handle, and was not very pleasant. I guess I went into a semi-trance, the next thing I knew, the two girls I was with were screaming their heads off. They both claimed to have seen a girl, sitting behind me that looked like I did but was in period clothing.
I've remained in contact with one of these women through the years. She still recounts the same story, when it can be pried out of her.
Ouija boards are not toys. They need to come with some type of warning.
It sounds like you have some interesting things going on at your home. I lived in two houses where the cabinets slammed in the night. Have you looked into the history of the home and/or the land it was built on?

When you consider the sheer volume of horrible stories connected with these things it's quite remarkable to think they have been marketed for so long as toys for kids! It's like that Halloween movie with the posessed masks, only not quite as nasty in it's intent.

As for our experience in college, I'll expand a little. We got hold of something bad that night (this was immediately apparent) and from then on we would hear something literally stomping up and down the stairs, and in the attic (loud as Hell) as well as finding all our plates and cups missing from cupboards only to be stacked in piles in the fridge. We also had a window that kept opening to the furthest point on it's hinge despite us constantly locking it, and bad things seemed to really go on in the bathroom. Like I said, we ended up moving because it was a little too much.

Hi Butterfly Rose!

I am afraid that I have to agree with everyone else on this one. If you can, I would return it. I myself have only used a Ouija board twice. The first time was when I was younger, still in Highschool. Nothing really significant happened. The second time was actually the summer before last with my brother and my nephew. After that time, I don't think I'll use one again. My brother Dan had passed away in April of 2002 and we used the Ouija in Aug. of 2002. We did make contact with something that actually claimed to be my brother. To this day we're all still not a 100% sure that it was actually him. It was upsetting none the less. I just don't think that using one is good idea. You may stir up more then you bargained for. I also have to agree with Carrie that doing some research on your house may give you some insight to who may be haunting it.

Either way, let us know how things are going!

Would you let someone who knew nothing about guns play with one in your house?
You wouldn't light a fire in your house without the proper controls (fireplace, stove, furnace, knowledge of fire safety)??
A OUIJA board is not evil nor is it good. Just like any other tool bad or good things can happen using it. But just the nature of it there is a great potential for much suffering.

Based upon the what kind of knowledge you seem to have of it and the current activity in your house I have to agree with everyone else. Don't use it.
Everyone whose ever used it has had bad experiences.
Miranda gives the best analogy. Would you let just anyone in your house blindly?

You would be better off using some sort of cleaning ritual. Something that calls upon God/Creator/Universe/HighPowers/Etc to remove all the negative beings from your house and grounds and only allow good spirits of good intention to those who live or visit there.
Kell and Az have a posting here for those rituals and they have a link to a website that has some for just about every faith.

It sounds like you have some sort of draw in your house. Some places seem to be a portal of sorts for spirits entering and leaving this plane. Sometimes it could be someone in your house attracting them. I've found that people who have lots of energy or are spiritually tuned draw spirits to them. They give off a light that can be seen/felt at a distance and ghosties from other places will roam to your house.

Good luck. Keep us posted.
Especially if you still decide to use the UOIJA board.

An Ouija board is a tool. Just like any other tool for communicating with Spirit it should not be used lightly or without precautions. If you chose to use it first look at your intention as to why/who you want to contact. If it is just because it sounds 'cool' to do, don't. If it is out of a genuine need to get in touch with someone at the very least say a protection prayer before you begin. If it makes you feel better, light some white candles. But make sure to say a prayer to whatever you believe in to guide you and protect you while you work with the board. When you are done say another prayer thanking Spirit and making VERY clear that you are done and that nobody need hang around. Hold on, let me get down off my soapbox again. There, okay, that's better. Whatever you do make sure to do it with love and the best of intentions. [Wink]

I was looked at the abstract for my home, and years ago my home was near the mouth of the Erie Canal. Indians use to live on the gound where my house lays. The Erie Canal once spilled into the Walbash river from what I am told. Now where the Erie Canal once flowed, is nothing more than streets and buildings. Below I pasted a portion about Logansport, Indiana's history.

Although permanent settlement of the Cass County area did not occur until 1826, the French interacted and traded with the Native American tribes living in the Wabash Valley. Those tribes were the Potawatomie and Miami Indians. A treaty signed in October of 1826 opened much of the north central portion of Indiana to settlement, marking the beginning of the end for tribes in Indiana. In 1838 the last of the Potowatomie Indiana were removed to Kansas in what has become known as The Trail of Death.

It would be impossible to talk about Cass County without reference to the Wabash River. The Wabash has been an important trading route, as well as Indiana’s most fabled river. Miami Indians called it ‘waapaahsiiki siipiiwi’. Translated it means ‘the river that shines white’. Prior to American settlement, the French called it the ‘Quabache’. Cass County also has several other important waterways including the Eel River and the creeks of Pipe, Twelve Mile and the north and south forks of Deer. Lake Cicott, eight miles west of Logansport, is the only lake in Cass County and is the most southern glacial lake in Indiana.

Cass County has been fortunate that very little blood has been spilled on its soil. Since the arrival of Europeans, only one battle has taken place. On August 7, 1791, on orders from Washington D.C. to scatter the native Miami tribes, General John Wilkinson led 525 Kentucky troops against the village of Old Towne.

Hi Butterfly Rose,

My advice about using the Ouija board is a firm NO.

As Nakis said, it is a tool that can be good or bad, depending on one's knowledge on how to use it. But, the majority of us (including myself) are really no where near qualified to use one. They are dangerous, in that, if used by a novice, your chances of connecting to spirit is there, but you are more than likely going to get a lower level spirit - a nasty. And they WILL lie to you and tell you they are someone they are not. It can open a door to things you don't *even* want in your home. See, when you initiate the contact by using the Ouija, it's like an open invitation for them to come into your home. That's not a good thing. You don't want these lower level spirits hanging around - trust me!

I have used one before (I was much, much younger!) and did make contact; one was friendly one day, but the next day we got ahold of one that was not very personable. Did it unleash something in the house? I can't say for sure, but I'd be willing to bet the 'door' was left wide open...

Here's a quick story I'll relay to you - this happened to a very good friend of mine. I no longer have to wonder if those 'horror stories' about Ouija use by novices are true, because I know this person would not make this up.

J. and his brother C. used the Ouija when they were teens. I don't think he realized at the time that this may also have been part of what was causing all the fighting and strife in his family, but that's another story.... Somehow, his father found the board (he was lead to it in a most curious way - almost as if it drew him to it). His father hated the thing and wanted it out of the house pronto! He broke the board into quarters and threw it and it's box over the fence into the alley. J. actually saw it laying in the alley, so he's positive it was there.

A day or so later, in his brother's closet, where the board had been originally, was the board in it's box - in one piece! J. was shocked! He asked his brother if he'd gotten it out of the alley and put it back together somehow; his brother said absolutely not. There were no signs of it having been put back together with glue, tape or anything.... it was as if it had never been broken - or thrown out! Needless to say, this was just too much for them to comprehend. They finally took the board and it's box out to the desert and left it. It didn't return after that, thankfully.

So, again, I will say - please don't use the Ouija board, chances are you will regret it. When you use a tool like this, it's like calling a pay phone at Grand Central Station - any passer by can answer the phone - you don't know who (or in this case - what) you'll get. I'd recommend that you start by smudging/cleansing the house, because it does sound like you've got something going on.

Be safe!

Years ago, during my teen years my mother "strongy" requested me and my brothers stop using "The Board". So I gave it to a friend, unknown to me his mother wouldn't allow it in their house.
Anyway, strange noises and events continued to happen in our house, my friend then admitted, two weeks later, that he had returned the board that very same night and placed it under the house, our house, in the crawl space!
There is something to it all, perhaps a force within or from beyond??

I too, agree with everyone, do not use the ouija board. It, in itself is a harmless object, what it symbolizes is an open invitation to forces one and all when we use it. We spiritually give permission when we use the ouija board.

Obviously you have contact with "something" judging the activity you discribed. I would never suggest anyone try to banish a spirit, but rather protect yourself in ways that others have already mentioned.

I whole heartedly agree with everyone here, NO don't use it. Throw it away. You will gain nothing good from it.
You have no idea what you may welcome into your home using one. You may open a door for many bad things.
Please, just throw it out. Do not give it to anyone else.
Thanks.

So that's 12 nayes and O yaes.
If you decide to be cautious. Say some protection prayers. Circle yourself with (and the house) white light. Ask for a higher being to mediate the communication.
I knew the risk too yet I used the board anyway. Much to my chagrin. I had bad experiences.

You have an impressive knowledge of your area.

If it is indians that are in your house be respectful. I've read many stories about ghosts and almost all the ones that had to do with native americans were not pleasant ones. As you must realize, if you'd been through what they've been through you'd be a pretty angry ghostie too.

As everyone else has I am going to tell you that using a Ouija board is a very bad idea.
I have only used it once, and I will never use it again...

I was in sixth grade which I think is pretty young to be using it anyone, but I have always been curious about the paranormal. Anyway, I used it with my best friend at the time, Andrea. She had just moved back to our home town, Oak Lawn, IL from Fontana, California the year before. THe house they moved into was an older house, and it was kind of big...and kind of scary to begin with. One day we found a Ouija bored in one of the closets in her basement. We took it out and started using to see what would happen. We didn't really get any answer....or so we thought. Later that night...we were upstairs in her bedroom...and the lights kept flickering on and off. We were so scared. [Shocked] We were screaming for her mom to come upstairs and get us, but it was like she never heard us. We felt immobile, and I felt the presence of something. Which wasn't abnormal. I always get different feelings in different places. That's how I have been as long as i can remember. Anyway...I finally gathered up the courage to grab her arm and run down the 2 flights of stairs to the kitchen. After that I had a really difficult time spending the night at her house. And if we did...I needed some sort of night lite, and the covers were always over my head. [Laughing]

So, get rid of it....it's the best thing you could do.

I was attacked by an inhuman malovent entity while using the board with a friend of mine..some people call them demons..but, either way, they will mess you up BAD. Here's a word of warning to anyone who feels that they MUST use the board, in spite of all discouragement, because I know people's curiosity will get the better of them just like it did me. If the planchette EVER starts to move in continuous "Figure 8's"..STOP IMMEDIATELY! The continuous figure 8's mean that a demonic entity has taken control of the board. I did not know this at the time and continued on in spite of this and my friend saying that we should stop. I was determined that the spirit was going to answer me. I can't believe how stupid I was then. I did not know what we were dealing with until I was lying in a ball on the bathroom floor thinking I would not live through this and praying to god to just PLEASE take this thing away from me and I would NEVER touch another Ouija board. I wasn't a religious person, but I was praying like a saint that day, believe me. I honestly thought I was going to die. But my prayers must have been heard because it finally did leave me after the most god-awful two hours of my life. ANYTHING can come through that portal..from something very minor to something that will wreak havoc on you and even destroy your home, your family and your life. There are proper ways to open the portal, provide a circle of protection and to close the portal and bind it after you are done...but this takes a lot of learning and experience in magic and spells to be able to do this. You basically have to be a fairly capable practitioner of sorcery to be able to properly do these necessary rituals to protect yourself and your space when dealing with this oracle. It's really not for lay-people and having it out on the shelves like a toy is like selling a loaded gun to toddlers, in my opinion.
