My last apartment was beautiful and very new - but my roommate and I were not the only tenants. You could just tell that something else was there. For some reason our ghost was obsessed with breaking glass. I have never broken so much glass in my life. It wouldn't matter if something dropped on carpet, furniture wherever it would shatter. Things never broke when they were in the cupboards but if things were left out we would often come back to find broken glass all over. We had mirrors fall off walls and shatter, paintings would fall off walls (fortunately we were cheap and had plastic frames). I even once had this bright red fingernail polish FLY off the counter and explode everywhere (my favorite color too). Then of course we could never get the stain out no matter what we tried. I even used acetone and it refused to budge. Note: that was the only time the ghost made me mad mostly it was just little pranks but not only was that my favorite color but we also didn't get part of our deposit back. I think it realized it crossed a line because after that everything calmed down (for awhile). [Thud!] I know it sounds like it was violent but I really just got the feeling it was trying to get attention and being playful. I could never find out anything that had occurred in those apartments or that area that would have left a presence but I could feel it nonetheless. Also, our gas bill was always insane. It was warm enough but the bill was way too high like the heater had to run constantly. We had people in to check it but they said there wasn't a problem. I really would like to go back and talk to the people living there now but I feel weird. Also, we have lived in a new apartment for four months and have not broken any glass. I don't know what the deal was, I really don't know anything about ghosts but I don't know what else it could be.

A couple of questions:

Do you have the same roommate?
Did you have any used furniture or even second hand clothing in the old apartment that didn't make it into the new apartment?

Spirits don't just attached themselves to places. They can be attached to furniture, toys, people, etc. I have a friend that loves antique furniture but she blesses each piece before it goes into the house.

Yes, I have the same roommate although I have one more but I don't know if that makes a difference. We have the same furniture too. To be honest I don't know what was going on. It might have just been that I am accident prone (which I am, but my roommate isn't and her things broke as well). Also, it was mostly glasses which were from the last place we lived but were new then (although we lived in the same complex we did not live together then). I don't know, it felt to me like it was familiar to the apartment. But I am the first to admit I have no idea what I'm talking about. I'll definitely try to think of anything that might have been used though. Thanks for the ideas. [Rainbow Smiley]

Another thing to consider is that poltergeist activity like this (the breaking glass, falling pictures, flying objects, etc.) can many times be attributed to a 'human agent' - psychokinesis (PK); moving or manipulating objects with the mind. This is most often seen in households that have young, often emotionally troubled, females in it... but can also be boys or older adults. The majority don't even know they're doing it. That's not to say what happened in your old apartment *wasn't* a ghost, but definitely another possibility. =)

At any rate, I'm glad things have calmed in your new place. [Rainbow Smiley]

Ok, I'm going to reply to both posts at once I hope that's ok.
Connie: I went through and looked through the stuff that I had taken back home when I moved and there were a couple of figurines and a quilt from my great grandma I left there. Nothing unusual is going on back there but I wondered if there was a way to tell if something had inhabited an object at one time?

Kell: And also, is there any way to tell if someone is able to do psychokinesis? My roommate does have this uncanny ability to judge if someone will be "bad" or "good" and when she really wants something to happen it usually does. We call it "willing" but we're just joking around. I never really thought about it seriously before. Really she's probably just a good judge of character. But I have no idea. At this point I am just grasping at straws. It was all just very strange, but it certainly could have been a coincidence.

Since nothing is going on in your new place it appears that you've left whatever it was behind but unless you were up to something that great grandma really didn't approve of [Nope!] , I don't think she would have been the one to break you things.

Most people will notice an attached item after they bring it home and things start to happen and doesn't stop until the item is removed. I have heard of people who can handle the item and get a psychic reading but I think the best bet is to do a blessing on used items before you bring them in.

Another question - Did this happen the whole time you lived at the old apartment or was it just after you started talking about moving? Sometimes it seems spirits just don't like change - prepareing to move and remodeling can stir things up.

Along the PK lines... does your roommate have a temper? You all didn't happen to be fighting around the time your nail polish flew and broke, were you? [Nerdily Unsure]

And yes, it's perfectly fine to address more than one person on a thread in one post. [Wink]

Connie,
That's a very good point. To be honest with you my great grandma has/had about 100 grandkids great grandkids and great great grandkids! I was also pretty young when she passed on so I don't know how much of an impression I made on her.

I believe the breaking things occurred the entire time we lived there, however for the first five months I was working overnights and going to class so I was so zoned out all the time I could barely function! Then I was really weird when I had to switch back to working afternoons. It was right after I started to adjust when we really thought something was going on. For one thing I was so tired that I would drop things constantly and even run into things and stumble a lot so it didn't seem that strange at the time. Also, it began to escalate to things breaking when we weren't there or weren't touching the object. Up until that point everything could be easily explained away. On the other hand I may have just been to tired to notice! Lol.

FYI - I am an EBAY and Half.com junky so it's certainly possible that if anything was going on it was related to an object.

Kell,
Thankyou for the feedback!
My roommate and I usually get along very well. Although she does have a temper. She's a little spoiled (and maybe a bit narcissistic [Wink] ) but is truly one of the best people I know. I don't think she has any violent tendencies either. I think we were having a disagreement at the time of the fingernail polish incident (we are both stubborn and opinionated [Embarrassed] ), but neither of us hold grudges and are almost never mad for very long at all. Also, I don't know if it matters but I was home alone at that time. [Confused]
