This has been a surreal week. With Mom's situation, African lions (see Greatroom Post), and now I'm wondering if we don't have a "visitor".
Let me give everyone a brief rundown on the place I live. It is in the middle of nowhere. Terra Incognito. We are 30 miles from the nearest town, and about 1/2 mile from our nearest neighbor. I married Grizzly Adams, and he moved me to an old farmhouse we are renovating. His family bought this particular piece of land in the 70's, although his family has been in the community prior to the Civil War.
Next to us, sits a delapidated dog-trot home, that hubby is in the midst of tearing down to clear the land. The people who built it where actually distant relatives of mine. The man had a reputation of being mean, and the woman went insane. Supposedly, she buried gold pieces on the property, possibly where our house sits today. She was found wondering the woods before she was institutionalized. This was all in the very early 1900's.
In the late 1800's, where the barn sits, a house once stood that caught fire. I'm not sure if anyone lost their lives, but the family lived in a tiny barn that part of is still standing. James has found various household items from that period around the old barn.
This area has seen plenty of turmoil and hardship. The property also backs up to the Alabama Coushatta Reservation.
Last week, we started having some odd things go on. I've never experienced anything at this house before. I've had toys move on their own, I've heard a woman muttering unintelligibly at night. I've heard heavy footsteps on the porch on several occasions, and even woke James up to investigate. I've also heard them during the day with the baby and I here, I went to look, thinking James had come home early, but not a person was in sight.
I'm thinking I may have a ghost! I don't know if all the turmoil of the last few weeks has stirred something up, or if it is bringing the baby home, etc... It may all have a logical explanation, I just haven't found it yet! [Laughing]

Def. sounds like you have a ghost! Or maybe more! You really should think about taking some pictures and seeing if anything shows up! I just bought a digital camara yesterday and im really hoping that maybe I can get some ghostly photos of my own! [Wink]

Carrie,
Remodeling can stir things up and so can tearing down that old house. Children, especially babies, can attract visitors. Keep looking for some logical explanation (maybe the land is settleing differently because there are shifts in the weight due to the old house being town down) but keep a camera handy and watch the baby. If she appears to be watching something or reacting to something you can't see, snap a picture.

I think it's kind of neat that your family lived on the land that your hubby's family eventually bought.

What did James do with the items he found from the people who lived in the little barn? Do you know anything about them?

Oh, another thought. Is you mom in a coma? I've heard that people in coma's can travel out of body. Maybe she's checking out her new granddaughter.

Carrie, it doesn't surprise me. You've got more than enough of the ingredients to stir up the ghosts! High emotions - good (bringing the new baby home) and bad (your Mom being so ill right now). Brianna herself. Then the remodeling. The demolition and finding old items. Indian land nearby.

That's a good point that Connie made about your Mom possibly astral travelling, too.

As always, keep looking for logical explanations, but keep that camera handy! [Wink]

I've thought about Mom also; she is not really in a coma, but she is being given a lot of morphine. She sleeps peacefully and sometimes will mutter, usually prayer, or family member's names. However, she did get to see Brianna before she really went downhill; so she may very well be checking on her. While she was still able to talk, she told me she would 'watch after the baby, and that she couldn't wait to show her to my Dad and grandparents.' Mom is a firm believer in the afterlife. The female voice I've been hearing at night seems to come from the baby's room. I just wish I could tell what she is saying! It doesn't really sound like Mom's voice, but it is so distorted, it is hard to tell. I will be keeping the camera handy.
Connie, James found things like an old spoon, and a small, pink, porcelain pig figurine at the site of the house that burned. I believe he has them in his closet, he found them several years ago.
Like I said, we never had anything out of the ordinary happen here until very recently. It may just be all of the things combined have triggered some paranormal activity.

Carrie, I just had a thought - and it struck a cord in me. [Nerdily Unsure]

We don't know what, if anything, may have happened to Brianna's parents during that flood in the province around the time of her birth- but something certainly could have. Depending how things played out, I wonder if the female voice coming from Brianna's room is her birth mother? [Shocked]

That is an interesting thought about Brianna's birthmother, Kell. I can't decipher a single word, but the voice is very soft and calm. It may be Mom, or even another spirit that has crossed over. If it happens again, I may dig out my recorder and try for an EVP! However, if it is in Cantonese, it will be fun explaining to someone why I need it translated!

Wow, if it were me, I'd have the videocam and a recorder running in that room. Like others have said, it could be Brianna's birth mother, or your mother's spirit paying a visit. Now that your mother passed on, is it still happening? I'd try for an EVP if you're hearing voices.

Do you have any pets? If you do, watch them, sometimes they can see things we can't.
