Last night when I went to bed, I heard my cat scratching at the wall on the stairs. I went out to investigate, and my cat was standing on the top of the stairs with his fur standing on end and growling. At the bottom of the stairs I saw something or someone turn the corner into the hallway. I ran downstairs and saw nothing there. There was no one else in the house, and all three of my cats were upstairs. [Eek!]

I see a trip to our landlady's sometime in the near future for a history on our house. =)

Jen, that happens to us here all the time. I have to say though if I was ever by myself it would've scared me to death [Eek!] I'd have been up all night after that!

Is this the first time you had a ghostie visit? Be sure to let us know if you talk to the landlord and find out any interesting history =)

Whoa! I'm with Cindy, I would have been in bed awake all night with the covers pulled up to my eyeballs. [Laughing]

Definitely let us know if you find anything out about the history from your landlord or if it happens again! [Eek Smile]

Yeah that would've given me a bit of the spookers! My one cat has been seen running down the hallway while turning around to hiss & snort at something...we can't see anything, not sure what to make of that. If I were to see something, I think I'd jump outta my skin! [Eek Smile] Do let us in on any info. [Cool]

That's spooky for sure... especially since the cat was "burred" up. It reminded me of something that happened to me, years ago. I lived in a small house alone and was late for work one day. As I was getting ready, my cat started pawing at the window shade, she fluffed up like a cream-puff, and was making low gutteral growls. It unnerved me, and then I heard a noise, like someone was coming in my back door. The cat ran ahead of me, and as I walked into the kitchen, 2 strange guys were standing there. My cat stood between me and the guys, growling... They explained they had gotten a maintenance call for my house (I was renting) and had a "skeleton" key to get in. I told them they must have gotten the wrong house, nothing needed fixing at mine. Luckily, they left, but I called my landlord, who had not called any maintenance men, then I called the police and made a report. The point is, whether paranormal or not, when an animal acts like that, they sense a danger to their owners. Definitely check out the history of your home... the kitty evidently sensed something ominous.

Was it the Amitiville Horror Movie when the couple starts moving into the home and the raspy voice says "Get Out"? If I saw something as Jen did, I may not wait for the verbal invitation .. LOL. Jen next time grab that camera... practice grabbing that camera... practice practice practice. Just like a Fire Drill.

I got another visit last night! Only this time I didn't see anything, but rather I heard something.

Last night when I went to bed, I heard scratching at the door and I thought it was one of my cats. So I get up and go to the door. The scratching continues until I open the door and there's nothing there. No cats or anyone else. One of my cats was already in my room, and the other two cats were at the bottom of the stairs and wouldn't have had enough time to get from the top of the stairs to the bottom. They were looking up at me when I looked around the corner. So I thought that was odd. So I go back to bed. Then about an hour later (I was still awake reading), I heard this large bang like something slamming into my door. Tigger (the cat in my room) was sleeping on the end of my bed and she jumped at the sound and looked towards the door with this odd look. I opened the door thinking maybe it was my stupid cat running into my door. But again, there was nothing there. I found the other two cats downstairs hiding in the living room, looking scared.

A couple questions though: 1) Can ghosts "attach" themselves to one person so only that person can see or hear them? I don't think my sister or my mum heard the bang against my door because I'm sure it was loud enough to wake up the entire house. My mum had to leave in a hurry this morning so I didn't have time to ask her yet. And 2) If I do see something again, would it be considered disrespectful or rude if I did take a picture? Last thing I need is a ghost who's peeved at me for snapping a photo when it didn't want its picture taken. lol...

I'm going to see our landlady after Christmas about our house's history. The few days beforehand are a bit nutty ( [Wink] ) and I can tolerate the goings-on in our house for a little while longer. Tonight I plan on staying up good and late and keeping an eye on the cats armed with my camera. If I don't see it with my own eyes, it's fair game for picture taking unless I feel it's okay to take a picture if I see something.

There are people here better experienced with the do's and don'ts when dealing with a ghosts emotions... but in "my" opinion whatever it is .. is wanting to making itself known, as if trying to make you known its there. It morethan likely would even pose for a picture at this point, as it probably knows you are sensitive to it. As for your mother and sister ... it may not be the ghosts fault or theirs that they can't or don't hear the things it does. Some people are more sensitive to these things and some are just not. I have friends that think I am just silly when I let slip that I am interested in photographing ghosts.. they look at me strange like they are trying to figure out if I am mental or not. Not too long ago I was spending time totally alone in my house for the first time since we moved in.. the kids were spending the night with friends and my wife was out of town on business... it was just me and my three dogs. I was sitting here in my darkened bedroom playing games on my computer and the light was filtering into the bedroom from the hallway. Suddenly with no sounds I was startled by a sudden movement from the corner of my eye. Something large and whites or bright passed in front of my doorway.. it was high up like at shoulder height. I turned and looked my dog was looking too. I grabbed my digital camera and peeked out of my room ... nothing. I snapped pics in the dining room and the hallway. Turned out to be a nice bright orb in the dining room above my wifes computer. The history of my house is it was built in 1945, at the time it was amuch smaller house than it is now. It has been remodelled many times ... additions etc., infact the part of the house I saw the whatever, originally was the back door to the house. The house is built on part of what was in the 1800's a huge sugar plantation, as is most of the town of Holly Hill. Since the house was first built there have been numerous families living here from time to time and it has stood empty at times for long periods. It had been empty for about a year before we bought it. The only death I can link to this house was about 10 years ago there was a woman living here that was killed in her car as she was going to work when a tree fell on her car.
However with the rich history of Florida as far as this being Seminole country and the Spaniards were here since the 1500's and St.Augustine being the nations oldest city.. There is no telling what significant event could have happened on this exact spot centuries ago. All in all though I have no sense that this ghost means harm, nor does my wife. I think it was just seeking validation.

Jen, How long have you been living in the house?

I had one cat that walked like she was following someone and she would "rub" against "nothing" like she would rub against my legs. It was unnerving but not as bad as having a cat get hystrercial and hissing.

Silkie, that must have been a horror to enter a room and find to flesh and blood men in your home. Thank God they left. I am always more afraid of the living than the dead.

My husband and I oneday took pictures of our house, the whole house and got nothing. That same night, my grandaugher Gabby and I did the same thing. But, before taking the pic, we asked the spirits/entities if they wanted to be in the pic get in front. And guess what? They did.
I have been told its polite to ask and always say Thank you.
Good luck in your pic's!

I've been living here only about a month. When I had my first look at the house about a week before we moved in, the basement really creeped me out. I don't know if it was just the lack of light through windows (there's a very small one), but there was just something about it. I took a few pictures with our digital camera, but I didn't see anything out of the ordinary. But it's not a very good quality camera. Next time I go through my house, I'll ask the spirit to get into the picture if it would like. And I'll use a different camera. Hopefully I'll get something!

Savannah - I would have been TERRIFIED to see 2 strange men in my home unannounced.

Jen - Maybe next time you sense something, maybe say out loud, "I am going to start taking photos everytime you make yourself known." It may seem silly, but it could help...

A little update on the goings-on here. So far I haven't been able to get in touch with our landlady about any history on our house. I think it might be better to wait until after the holidays when she'll probably be more available.

But I now know I'm not the only one to sense the spirit. My sister (who is 13 but is developmentally delayed so she's more like a 4 or 5 year old) has pointed up the stairs and said, "A girl" like she does whenever we pass a young girl in the mall or in the street. My sister is the only girl in the house, apart from my mum and myself. There was also one point where she was going upstairs then was startled by something and started to cry. I was at the bottom of the stairs, but I didn't see anything that might've startled her. It might've been one of the cats, but she's never reacted like this before.

Last night when I went to bed, I left my light on because I was reading until I got too tired to get up and turn it off. I woke up barely an hour later to what felt like a draft. My window was shut and I was still under all my blankets. My closet door was open (it always has been since it's been overrun with boxes) so I stared at it for a few moments. Then the hangers started swinging back and forth. Without thinking, I shouted towards the closet "For chrissakes, leave them alone! It's 3.30 in the bloody morning!" Then the hangers slowly stopped moving and I heard what sounded like someone stomping down the stairs, much like a child would. I spent my morning going through the entire house apologizing for my outburst, and I hope my apologies are accepted. My mum thinks I'm nuts since she's a bit skeptical and probably won't believe me unless she experiences something herself.

I didn't have my camera available for last night, but I did spend one night taking pictures all over the house. I still have to bring them in to get developed, which I'll get around to later this week.

Hey I got a visitor last night too. I was at work talking to a couple people in the hall. It felt like somebody had walked up behind me but I didnt turn around because of my conversation. Then I had somebody lean up to my ear and say "Cindy" very loud and clear, I turned around and nobody was there. Boy did I jump [Laughing] Scared the people I was talking to. I know they thought I was crazy but it was very real. I immediately looked at the clock...I have this weird thing about time [Nope!] It was 5:20 in the morning.

Well Jen I dont blame you for being mad. At least my visitor didnt wake me up!

When on hunts I always ask " may I take your picture" then I thank them. I have had one expereince while at a supposed ghost town here in michigan called Pere Cheney. There is supposed to be a mass grave in this cemetary and when we explored it we came across a very large rectangular spot that we thought could possibly have been the mass grave so I asked " may I take your picture" , I snapped then said thank you. I had my digital camera and when I looked at the pic all that came out was blackness. I took that as a hint that they didnt want there pic taken and moved on .
